The Hammock Preserve is a beautiful and peaceful area off Carlton Road. If you go in the summertime it is best early in the morning. You'll see many species of beautiful butterflies and birds.

a great park to utilize photography shots. beautiful greenery and some water on a canal. of course be careful of the bugs, and mosquitos. you can hike thru the woods and also have a picnic.

I have been on several ranger led hikes here. some hammock areas and reclaimed pastures. Mostly natural area, no facilities.

Nicely laid out trails, but parts may flood and/or be very soggy in wet season. Ranger-led hikes offered on occasion, by reservation. Location is a bit out of the way, and be sure you finish up before nightfall. Lots of varied flora and birds, and occasional mammal.

I visited Paleo Hammock Preserve with friends. One is an avid birder and photographer. He selected this location based on input from local birders. I took my four kids here on a school holiday and we all enjoyed it. The trails are nice and open, there is a small tower to climb for a view, and there are many native plants. This is a wonderful walk. There are beautiful trees and flowers. Lots of butterflies are flying around! We even saw wild pig tracks!! Really enjoyed this!

Paleo Hammock is tucked away to the West of I-95 in Saint Lucie County. When you live east of I-95, which most of us do over here on the east coast, heading west might as well feel like we’re heading into the old west. The landscape is dramatically different.
