Paleo is the most alive!
Apr 2021 • Solo
Great hike, go on the trail that brings you to Meadow Lark Marsh, Panther Prairie, and leads you to Rockland Marsh. Then on the way back you'll hit Maple Restoration and then Hackberry Hammock. The look out tower in the Paleo Hammock area, is awesome too. You'll see anything ranging from alligators to bobcats to owls, it's very alive in this preserve. So many beautiful creatures! Don't miss out on the chance to feel a true old Florida approach.

Small, Nice Hammock

Trails are not well marked. We did a loop that was about 1.2 miles. Didn't see water. Trails were mostly dried mud; I can imagine it would be a mess in rainy season. Saw a variety of butterflies and dragon flies.

Outback Florida
Jan 2020
If you like hiking, this will take you through some typical south Florida habitats. You will see some native plant and introduced species gone wild, like oranges, grapefruits and papayas from an old homestead. The shady spots were wet and attracted lots of mosquitoes, so be prepared.

Quiet isolated park with great trails
Jul 2019
Enjoy this one if you like privacy. A number of trails to walk and much Florida Fauna, flora and alligators. Get out before dark because it is really isolated. Pretty hot in the summer.

We live within 3 miles of this park . We bring our dogs here, they love the area & smells! In the rainy weather it will get soggy. HOT in the summer.. as is all if Florida 🤔

Visited the Preserve on Thanksgiving with my mom. Arrived around 9am. There is plenty of parking, a great map of all the connecting areas to explore and marked trails. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the Preserve. It is obvious the staff puts a lot of time into maintaining the trails for visitors. The platform for viewing was great, about midway through the Preserve. My mom had hip surgery in June and was able to get around fine. There were so many butterflies, birds and wildflowers. We recorded 32 species of birds in a few hours. I was truly impressed with everything and will definitely be back.

Another hidden gem.

Perhaps I'm just spoiled by the trails in the Treasure Coast, but we stumbled upon this one, when our GPS led us astray, trying to find another trail. This one was a great substitute.

Florida Hiking
May 2017 • Family
I was able to hike the trails here before the summer rains came. Trails are well marked some run beside canals inhabited by alligators of various sizes. You can see cattle in the distance along with lots of birds. Hiking in May was hot and you need to bring along water. There are many unique trees and plants in these hammocks and it demonstrates how the cattle removed a lot of this vegetation to graze.

Cool Butterflies!
Jun 2016 • Friends
The Hammock Preserve is a beautiful and peaceful area off Carlton Road. If you go in the summertime it is best early in the morning. You'll see many species of beautiful butterflies and birds.
