- ChinapjsWashington DC, District of Columbia3,786 contributionsNicest beach around with public accessReally nice beach with public entrance. Best to enter here and go to the right and camp out a good walk away from public access area. Less crowded. There are no life guards so be careful. Best at lower tides as it's safer. Right by the public access it's very crowded and the public bathrooms aren't great to say the least. But this beach is nicer then the Ponta Vedra Beach which is 30 minute walk away.Visited August 2020Written August 7, 2020
- Douglas K5 contributions"LOOK" A Shark's ToothWhat a fun place to go hang out. Every time I go, I look for petrified sharks teeth. Sometimes I go there just to hunt for these 10,000 + year old rocks that used to be in a shark's mouth. You can find them anytime, but the best pickings are at low tide. Have fun. They are adding new bathrooms and showers now so there are chemical toilets for a while.Visited January 2020Written February 5, 2020
- TessSt. Augustine, Florida18 contributionsBusy but niceThis place is a zoo on weekends unless it’s cold. Free but no parking with bathrooms, showers, etc. best to be dropped off or arrive early in the morning. Everyone congregates by the entrance/exit on the beach. If you move down a bit either direction, it’s very peaceful. You sure can find tons of shells here, but they are your extremely common run of the mill. Either have to work very hard or beach luck be on your side. We aren’t known for shell finding here on the eastern coast. Everything is broken or picked over already. Occasionally, you can find great treasure, though. Just don’t have high hopes immediately expecting to find desired shells. Or even shark teeth for that matter. I’ve only ever found two small ones. Not many as people suggested in the past. Overall, just a pleasant stroll once you get away from the herds of people!Visited March 2023Traveled soloWritten March 17, 2023

I'll get to MY favorite in a minute, but let me give you some tips: 1. Don't park on the grass in the parking lot. On a crowded day you'll be tempted to park on the corners or on a grassy spot. I see it all the time, and everyone does it. EVERYONE GETS A TICKET. Be patient and wait for a spot. 2. Once on the beach, mark your spot and park your stuff. Valuables do get stolen on occasion but not as bad as Jax Beach. Don't leave your valuables unattended. 3. Head to the shoreline to hunt for shark' s teeth. The best way to find them is to walk right where the water breaks and look for a congregation of shells. The shark's teeth typically get hung up in a bunch of the small shells. Look for something dark, shiny black. If you're by the water's edge, the teeth typically roll in the waves uniquely making them easier to spot. Once you have found a few, they get easier to spot since your eye is trained to search for the unique color and outline of the teeth. I typically find 10-20 in an hour when I only keep the nice ones. 4. Bring a small container to hold the teeth such as a cup. I witness people dropping teeth they found all the time. I think that's why I find teeth near the exit when I leave. 5. Walk south. If you walk away from all of the people, the pickings are better. 6. Don't tell other people...like I am doing. - KoluchiiNew York City, New York6 contributionsSharks' Teeth and Dog @#$%First I'd like to thank the many volunteers who tirelessly clean this beach for no other reason than to keep it clean for others. That's just awesome. My hat is off to officers who patrol the beach and enforce the rules. The rescue crews...thank you guys. And the regular beach goers who never fail to clean up after themselves, or their pets. Unfortunately these efforts aren't enough to keep the beach clean. The good news about this beach is that it is one of the few access points in the area. It has showers, rest rooms, and plastic bags for dog owners. Sharks teeth are also here, if you care to look for them. What ruins this beach, I'm sad to say, are dog owners. Not dogs, mind you, as they are just doing what dogs do. Dog owners don't pick up after their dogs. With smaller dogs, they pretend nothing happened and that no one sees them so it is covered with sand. With bigger dogs, things are more complex, but generally, covering with sand is the usual drill, or simply pretending that they are looking in the other direction and leaving the pile behind them--works every time. Except one time when I saw an officer chase a dog owner, making her dig out the pile, bagging the pile, and issuing a ticket. Lesson learned, except like I said, there's 1 officer for 100 dog owners. One time my wife politely asked a dog owner to clean up, only to be verbally attacked in response, fists in the air, by a deranged owner of a giant poodle. Really? Being a dog owner myself, I advocate responsible dog-ownership. But this beach is where tons of small children come, including my children, and digging in sand mined with dog @#$% is simply not acceptable. Now, let me tell you a story when several horses strolled onto the beach...Visited August 2015Traveled with familyWritten October 13, 2015

- Nick W11 contributionsPoo BeachIt seems that all Americans with dogs on beaches, that I've seen this last two weeks, have no concern about letting their dogs crap all over the beach... I personally think it's disgusting... It was totally hyped up about Micklers Beach, over crowded, with people busy looking for sharks teeth, but not bothered for having the decency to simply pick up the dog crap their dogs leave... Kids are playing on the beaches, people are trying to relax, you're spoiling these beautiful beaches with your total disregard for anything.... Get grip dog owners..... This isn't just on Micklers.... I've seen this on all the beaches up in St Augustine... What a shame.... Shame on you Floridians....Visited May 2019Traveled as a coupleWritten May 24, 2019

Love this place. Hunting for shark teeth, looking at the homes that line the ocean, playing in the warm water. Close to everything, but far enough away from traffic. No tourists or congestion here.

Sorry not exactly sure, it appeared the parking area was open and did not really "close", I would get there early though because there is not a lot of parking. Beautiful - enjoy !
What time does the parking lot open in the morning? Conflicting info on line. Is it open at sunrise? 24 hours? 8 am??? Please help this die hard fisherman!

Yes you can and details are as RLWOrangePark answered. One other detail is that the wooden walkway from the parking lot to the bridge is no longer there as a result of hurricane Matthew so one now must use the sand path which makes it more difficult if you are pushing wheeled carriers.

Are dogs allowed at the beach
DABINDER
Ponte Vedra Beach, FL15 contributions
Dogs are allowed on leash. Please clean up after your dog (bags provided). We walk our dog 2/3 mile north and let her run. She loves the water. We avoid the heavy traffic area.
This beach was beautiful when I went last year. However, I must have went when it was spring break for the schools and it was horribly crowded and not worth my 1.5 hour drive to have to fight through thick crowds all day. I'd like to plan around that this year and try again. Can you please tell me when the main spring break week will be for the majority of public schools there? Thank you so much.
Bethyangelo
Ponte Vedra Beach, FL178 contributions
Mickler's is located in St Johns County and those public schools have spring break on March 13-20. Duval county also uses the same beach and their spring break is March 17-24th. That means that public beach will be unusually crowded from March 11-24th. Hope that helps.

I was there on Wednesday, 12/28, and it was closed. Cop said it is being used as a "staging" area for beach maintenance.
I heard it might be open on the weekend. Is that true?

According to today's newspaper it will closed until the Spring
