Had a great time on the trail, waded in the water and even caught a tiny fish by hand, had cool educational signs along the trail. Saw amazing birds and huge skink. We packed a picnic lunch and ate after the hike. Was very neat day, was a little warm but was a good way to spend half a day... More

When we were recently in the Pensacola area, I took my wife to the Naval Live Oaks Reservation. I grew up in the area and am real familiar with it and the history. Previously it was also a Boy Scout Camp and a Girl Scout Camp. I spent many nights there growing up. Since the feds took it over it... More

The Naval Live Oaks Reservation is a beautiful nature area on the shores of Pensacola Bay. With picnicing, walking trails, beach areas it is a very peaceful place.

While my husband was in class I did some driving around the area to see different sights. This is something I was interested in because there is so much history here. The fact that this is where the very trees that built ships such as Ironsides grew I never knew. It really isn't something you will just say "wow" over,... More

Watch the interpretive video and read the interpretive displays. It's a great historical and biological introduction to Gulf Islands Seashores. They hand our free chick magnets for your car reminding passersby to drive under 20 MPH on the island (because of flightless chicks in June and July). When you're trying to get out of the rain or just get off... More

Where are the live oaks? Not really sure. The visitor's center is closed weekends (not sure I've seen this at any other NPS site) so we couldn't get much info. If you go back across the main road there seems to be a large system of trails, but the signage was poor and we gave up on them pretty quickly.... More

My husband and I decided to do this Trail. Very easy close to the highway, so you can't really get lost on the trail. didn't see any type of animals other than squirrels.. however there are a lot of beautiful flowers that you have to keep your eye out on.. overall very clean trails they do keep up the maintenance... Naval Live Oaks Visitor Center is worth an hour's visit but not much more. In the summer you might like to go swimming at the beach as I’ve heard it’s more protected than the gulf-side beaches, but we were there on a rainy April day and even the boardwalk trails were not appealing. The exhibits and signs in the visitor... More

This location is amazing. Who knew shipbuilders used the natural curvatures of trees to make specific parts. I learned a lot about forest management and tree type for building ships. Well worth the time to walk and visit, very informative.
