- Nole GirlAlexandria, Virginia4 contributionsFun experience for younger childrenThe train trip was nice. The pumpkin patch set up at the stop and activities was great for small kids, not much to do for the 11 and 12 year olds. The food was VERY VERY VERY expensive - eat before you go (and don't get the chicken pita...I purchased 4 and we threw all 4 away... gross). The staff was very nice and a great day was had by all. We will go on other excursions but will plan better for food.Visited October 2023Traveled with familyWritten October 30, 2023
- Dz N1 contributionPumpkin Patch Express was a bust for 2023So usually, I don't have anything bad to say about the Pumpkin Express train ride to the pumpkin patch, but this year was a bust. We've been taking my son for the last 5 years and enjoyed every year until now. This year the price of tickets was more expensive and there was much less to do. No haunted house, the bounce house was for small children only which thoroughly disappointed my son, there were no trains or Lego or logs to play with in the play area, the bubbles didn't work anymore and were very gross, barely any crafts to do (markers in a bucket to draw on your pumpkin which did not work) and the hay maze (if you could call it that) was tiny. The "games" were boring, and the candy was the cheapest that could be bought handed out by the most bored teenagers you could even imagine. Last year it was pick a pumpkin for each family member and this year was just 1 per child. The train was great as always, but the lack of fun at the pumpkin patch was experienced by most of the children there. It was a disappointment and I'm not sure if we will be back again.Visited October 2023Traveled with familyWritten October 30, 2023
- Taylor A1 contributionFun activities but expect a long wait when leaving and dealing with rude peopleWe have been attending the train ride to go see Santa for the last 3 years. It is always enjoyable for our daughter to see Santa and watch her enjoy all of the activities at the 'North Pole'. This year there were new activities for the children and they were a hit. Our daughter's favorite was the "snow" aka the bubble maker. I highly recommend bringing a change of clothes. There was a giant bounce house that was a blast also. As the years have gone on though, we have noticed that there is more and more chaos. The event is so popular, that people do not care to wait in line or be respectful to the people around them. Most of the employees are volunteers or high school age and the people running each event, do not put their foot down when children and parents walk all over other people in line. It makes it difficult to enjoy the event when you're constantly having to battle through other people's rudeness and fight for your child's spot in line. The worst part of all this past time was waiting to leave once we were boarded. We were on the first train ride for the night and were told that the train was leaving to go back to the station at promptly 8:15. Most people boarded and then we sat there for 30 extra minutes waiting for the rest of our passengers to board. We did not leave until 8:45. Each year, the wait gets longer and longer heading back and it makes the entire event unenjoyable. We are waiting due to other people's selfishness, lack of ability to plan, or the event just being too big. When you are given deadline to follow, you follow it. You don't make everyone else wait on you and then stroll up to the train like you've done nothing wrong. Nobody ever gets told what they did was wrong either or that the entire train of people are waiting on them, so what's stopping them from taking their time next time? It's really frustrating and I wish this issue would be addressed. This is the third year we've gone and the third year in a row we've experienced this issue.Visited December 2023Traveled with familyWritten December 5, 2023

- Experience78645216 contributionsFun Day with the Kids!We were camping in the area and were so happy they had the Willow Train ride the weekend we were there! I loved we had the option of open air or inside cart. Once we got to Willow it was very cool to get off and see some of the old train equipment including a Barnum and Bailey train cars. We brought the kids (age 10 and 8) and it was so neat to say we rode on a real train! We would love to come back for holidays;)Visited March 2024Traveled with familyWritten March 11, 2024

They have an indoor air conditioned car and an open outdoor car. You can switch whenever you want. Train enthusiasts will truly appreciate!Visited May 2024Traveled with familyWritten May 6, 2024
- Diane G13 contributionsOkay But Not the Experience We ExpectedWe took our grandchildren 4 & 7 on the 2 PM train ride. We arrived about 10 minutes prior to boarding the train due to heavy traffic in the area. The air conditioned car was already filled so we sat in the open air car. Once arriving, one of the kids needed to use the restroom which as it happened was out of order! A staff member did tell us that there was another restroom in one of the other cars. The other car was completely empty and not airconditioned. It seems that they could have opened that car and turned on the AC as it was very hot that day and there were several senior citizens on board. We overheard another staff person say there were no other restrooms and that their small child would have to get off the train to use the restroom at the ticket office. The train was getting ready to leave so that was not an alternative. I had to tell the mother where the additional restroom was on the train. When we reached Willow, there really was nothing of interest for children. There were antique firetrucks and train cars along with a train museum for the adults. It would be nice if there would be something for the small kids. All in all my grandchildren were less than excited about the trip. I understand every child is different and that they should make their own fun but it is kind of hard to do that if there is nothing to build upon. Maybe some of the other themed train rides are more fit for kids and leave the standard train ride to the adults.Visited May 2024Traveled with familyWritten May 12, 2024

Attended a special event where the museum hosted a steam locomotive owned by the Gramling Locomotive Works (a company which brings small steam engines to museums that don't have steam of their own). The Gramling family themselves were very professional run an excellent organization which shares these machines with people who would otherwise never get to experience one. Plus a couple of paid employees which were brought on to bolster the staff numbers (the pilot engineer and fireman) were courteous and operated in a professional manner.
However, the volunteer staff of the Florida Railroad Museum is extremely rude and ill mannered and severely need training in how to properly interact with the public, especially ticket holding patrons which have paid to be at one of their events. This included one of their members who spoke to me in a standoffish and threatening manner that was COMPLETELY unacceptable to anyone in general much less to someone who was paying them to be there.
Considering the poor attitude of the volunteer staff they have it's not hard to see why they are having trouble retaining new volunteers or getting enough people interested in helping run their operations. I was considering trying to volunteer some time to them but after the way I was spoken too at this event I have no intent whatsoever of visiting their facility again and will be steering everyone in my circle of associates away from attending their events or offering donations/time to them.
If you want a train ride run by people that know how to act look up Kirby Family Farm in Williston, FL. Every event they run goes towards charity and they how not to act like jerks.

Boilerwash1, We are extremely regretful of your experience with one of the volunteers. I was the engineer on all day Saturday the 25th. While I'm a paid employee of the museum, I too volunteer (too much to do) Grayson the fireman, while also paid as the track guy, was also volunteering on Saturday. While I believe I know of who you speak, would you be willing to give more detail to confirm?

If you ever are tempted to go on the Polar Express here at Christmas I would suggest you find other ways of spending your money. Train cars are not very nice. Service is below mediocre with zero choices . At night there is nothing to view outside the 30 min ride to the North Pole but blackness. The night we were there it began to rain on our way and by the time we arrived, they dumped us all out to ankle deep water and everyone running for the only tent in sight. Then we learn we are going to be there for an hour and forty five minutes before they return! Crammed in; wet, muddy and no other arrangements made to accommodate all the parents and children. Not a sign of Santa or elves or anything Christmas in sight....except of course the gift shop. We arrived at 6:15 for a 6:30 boarding time, but boarded at 7:00, couldn't reboard until 9:15, arrived back at the station at 9:45 and left the parking lot by 10:10. Horrible.

This past Sunday, me and family visited the museum. The best part was the model train set. There were buttons that kids could press and they had sanitizer at multiple places. That's about the extent of my positive review. My daughter is really into trains, so were super excited to go, but but we were overall disappointed in the run down condition of the trains and our time in Willow. The grass was soaking wet so we couldn't really get close to any of the "exhibits". I know grass being wet isn't their fault but knowing how the weather is in Florida, it would have been nice if it was paved.
There were 4 cars to sit in but one of the cars didn't have A/C and was off limits. There was 1 open car (which was quite packed), 1 concession car and 1 with tables and benches in which we sat in hoping there wouldn't be too many passengers. No one enforced 6 ft distance or sitting alternating so that we were spaced apart. At one point, my family got up and moved away because another family sat too close to us. While on the train, we wore our masks but our lazy train lazy attendant didn't encourage anyone to wear masks and didn't wear one himself even though CDC says to wear masks on any public transportation. He gave out cookies with his bare hands (no gloves or tongs). I didn't see him clean his hands before giving out the cookies even though he was eating his own meal right before. If the cookie was for me or my husband, we wouldn't have eaten the cookie but it was too difficult to take the cookie away from my daughter. We couldn't take the attention away or bribe her with some other food since no outside food was allowed to be eaten on the train. We let her eat it to avoid a tantrum even though we were disgusted. It didn't look like any of the high touch areas on the train had ever been wiped or sanitized which is especially important now living with covid).
If I had known then what I know now, I would not have gotten on the train. They need to make changes in their procedures. Things were unsanitary and unacceptable. We are really disappointed with the whole experience. Don't recommend! Don't believe the positive reviews.

Friendly folk, for sure. Made trip enjoyable, but in all honestly, for price paid, I was expecting a little more. Train cars were pretty worn out, unless that is the look they are going for - also, tons of rocking / swaying at lightning speed of 15 mph, actually to the point of "unsafe", IMO! Late getting us boarded, & some guests were getting irate. Employees handed out snacks, they were very late, & gave 1 to lady across from us, & he told me, sorry, we are about there! I said, no, I want mine, & he gave us ours! Food was the most disappointing - we neither like zucchini & had a little of the tomato / cucumber salad, then they gave us each, small helping of tators, & small portion of meat; again for price, we thought we'd get filled up, but both of us actually went away tad hungry still! Strawberry shortcake was good, play was good, & actors were good, not all was bad, for sure. Guess I could say, it was so-so.

Lovely weather for sitting in the open train car. Very informative. They do a lot for not getting any grants or funding. The train stopped to help a gopher turtle who had gotten stuck btwn the tracks. I would recommend the guides be provided with microphones for their talks so everyone can hear better over the train noise. They also have themed rides such as murder mystery, Thomas the Tank, WW II reenactments, and the Christmas Train.

The train ride was good, and the crew came through and talked with us and answered questions. The food at Willow was surprisingly tasty. The mystery theater was well done with interactivity with the audience. Maintenance of the train cars leaves something to be desired. Since I use a walker, having a single entry to the train and having to walk through several cars without it was unnecessary and certainly lengthened the boarding time. The crew were very helpful in this regard, however. While the ramp at Willow made it easy for me, the steps at the museum did not. The seating at Willow was most uncomfortable which could be vastly improved with cushions. On the whole, the day was a very good experience and well worth the cost

The polar express was nothing like promised. We went last night and it was extremely dirty and no covid precautions. I honestly think the grey hound bus and Public transportation methods are cleaner. No social distancing putting people touching each other, no sanitizing, and boogers/puke etc. They state they have drinks/snacks on the ride and not to bring anything- there was none. They said it leaves promptly at 530- they were letting people on almost to 6 pm. The train didn’t even get to the North Pole until 645 and it was supposed to leave at 755.
There was ONE actual food vendor so the line was insane, the line to Santa was like 2 hours long, and there was two dessert trucks serving undercooked funnel cakes and pretzels. The bathrooms were disgusting not cleaned, there were no sanitizing stations near any activity, and there was no one around helping you with anything. You can tell it was all for profit. Train finally showed up around 830 to pick us up. It then decided mid ride to stop at 915 to check the brakes when we asked after sitting for 20 mins. We didn’t even get back to the parking lot until 1015 (supposed to be 825). I want a refund for the lack of actual things they offered and did. If you have young kids skip it. They just piled people in and off and then brought More people. There was no holiday singing, no real sense of Christmas sides for the lights and I assume you could say the carnival tents were festive.

My whole life I’ve always wondered what it would be like to ride in a train.. but I never had the sufficient motivation to go do it myself since no one wanted to join me ever. So as years went by, I had this beautiful little four year old boy and ever since I bought him a train he had always wanted more and more to the point that he can’t be anywhere without one in his possession, therefore I had taken it upon myself to browse the Internet for a great location to show trains off and possibly even (if we were lucky) go ride one! (Also it had to be on a Sunday which most places close on Sunday’s) Turns out I stumble across this website and I thought to myself, for the amazing price and for all that they had to offer within that great amount of time.. I couldn’t resist ! I made reservations right away! So the day arrives and once we get there I see the most amazing reaction on my sons face when he sees that big train lined up and immediately begs to get out and run up to it! But first I had to make sure that I was there at the right time and not too early, so the wonderful ladies at the office were kind enough to hand me my tickets and walk me through how the whole operation would work and then they told me for the time being what to do within the area before we boarded the train! We browsed their gift shop and also their very detailed train model and walked around the outside of the trains and took a bunch of pictures. Once we boarded the train it was almost like a nostalgic moment as if it brought me back to my childhood.... so in a sense it didn’t only fulfill a little boys dream, it also fulfilled a little boy within a man. Thank you all at the Florida Railroad Museum for a life changing experience. We’ll be back! 🙏🏼👌🏼🚂

Three couples got together on a Saturday evening for a train ride and Murder Mystery Dinner. Everything and everyone couldn't have been nicer. The Florida Railroad Museum volunteers were so kindly and courteous especially Adam who was very knowledgeable and funny. The Parrish Playwrights were superb.

We visited for the first time in April 1st, and were there right at 10:00 am when they opened. The staff were warm and friendly. We first visited the model railroad located inside an old railway car. Amazing! My sister and her husband were with me and he is a real miniature railroad enthusiast. He spent almost an hour visiting and talking with the caretaker.
Then we boarded an open railway car which was attached to a 1951 Electric Diesel Engine and went on a 90+ minute ride from Parrish to Willow and back. Our guide Grayson actually works as an engineer for the railroad museum and shared a ton of information about the history of the local railroad and the community.
There is a large building under renovation which will eventually become the museum and train station.
I will continue to visit and bring friends and family.

Any special events this week at Florida Train Museum?
Written November 16, 2020
As others have stated you could take one on the train with you but the are no seat belts. We rode a train out one way had the opportunity to get off and walk around a museum and then boarded the same train for the return trip. We did not have a problem leaving our belongings in our seat while we at the stop.

Yes, you can take food and drink on the train. There is a snack bar on the train but the options are very limited. There are also snack items for sale in their gift shop before and after the train ride.

Do they allow you to bring bottles of water (or any food/drink) on the train?

Sorry for the late reply. The museum does not allow outside food and drinks onboard the train. There is a small snack bar with water and soda plus snacks such as chips.
