Top Notch Course...
Oct 2020
Played on Saturday with tee time at 255pm. Course was in fantastic shape. Facilities were in good shape. There was many staff members and they were all very friendly and helpful despite the many golfers and lot of activity. I played many courses and this course ranks as one of the toughest. Had about a 20mph wind that was gusting and making the holes difficult but manageable. Round took longer (end at 710pm; after sunset) than it should have since it was so busy and we were behind resort guests that were relatively slow. All in all great experience. Hope to play the other courses there soon.

After playing the course, I have more respect for the pros as there are many tee shots that have hidden danger that I took for granted as a spectator and watching on TV.

Worth the price of admission ... $$$$

It’s expensive but when the PGA plays a tournament here you will appreciate having played it. We weren’t staying at the resort so the price tag for 18, which included a forecaddie, was mid $400’s. You’ll remember to take your picture when you get to the Jack Nicholas Bear Trap holes. It was fun and a challenging course as you can imagine!

Awesome

To be able to play on a course which is on the PGA Tour is awesome. We had a group of 20 play a Ryder Cup match over 3 days and had a blast !

Good, Great, Fabulous and So-so Golf

PGA National has five courses. We played four this trip. Bottom to top:

1) Squire - wet; in a swamp; house are tight on the holes meaning out of bounds everywhere. Not in the best condition. I consider it so-so. If you have only one day here, try to get on another course.

2) Palmer - I thought this was a Good Course, and to be fair. In good condition.

3) Fazio - Some like Palmer over Fazio, But Fazio was the oldest course (recently renovated, It has houses only on one side of ,
the fairway, so there is some forgiveness,]

4) Then we played Champion. Excellent course in great shape. We thoroughly enjoyed it and our caddies. Winter snow birds who rent from a Member can use the their membership to avoid caddies.

Always want to try out the courses the pros play. This is home of HONDA Classic and includes three holes in back 9 called "the bear trap" after designer Jack Nicklaus the Golden Bear. The course was set up as a resort course when I played it with wider fairways and shorter rough than the pros experienced but it was in immaculate condition. I loved the layout even if my game was not up to my hopes. Good golf is rewarded. Bad golf is punished. I found a collection area near a green that ate me up for lunch. Lakes abound. Greens roll very true. We were paired with another twosome who were so nice to play with. It's worth the wait and the cost. Read ahead on playing suggestions to get some decent advice too

Everything I expected and more, Kevin the starter set the tone to an enjoyable experience. It was fun, challenging, outstanding session, one of the best. The resort was great too. A very fun weekend!

Great layout, horrible greens besides tournament times
Jan 2017
The layout and challenge is one of the best if you play from the tips. Only a couple of blase holes and the rest have some interesting play. However the greens are regularly chewed up and play slower than a 9 (and grainy, which is part of the norm in FL but it adds to the annoyance) which makes putting almost useless. The greens are in GREAT shape obviously around the Honda time and other huge events. The traffic this resort experiences makes keeping the greens in excellent shape I guess financially inefficient... pity.

"The Champ" as the caddies call it is a great track. Easily walkable and is always in great shape. Have had the pleasure of playing it 6 times in the past few months and everytime your come up to the BEAR TRAP it brings a big smile because you know some of the greats have played well here and not so well.

The course can play very hard if the wind is up, but if not it plays very fairly. Not particularly long....6450 yards from the Blues.

Service is great and the caddies are very knowledgeable and helpful.
