Did the 3 mile hike that was pretty much walking through open field. Saw some eagles nest and a large tortoise. Hardly shade and just plain hot. Campground looked decent as we cut through to end our hike sooner. Guy at nature center was very...More

We spent a week camping; great park to explore despite the rainy week. Brian and Brian at the Ranger Station were very knowledgeable and helpful. Spent time at the Venice area beaches looking for shells and shark teeth, shopping and enjoying the beautiful location. We...More

We camped for 4 nights, 5 days. Campsites are well secluded with vegetarian but short in length. We enjoyed the bike trails and hiking with our dog. The Legacy Trail is beautiful if you want to bike on pavement for miles! Hubby took a dip...More

I hardly consider this a park. it is an overgrown, nothing to see, underutilized patch of woods. Oscar Scherer is a missed opportunity for something better than a spot for dog walking.

This park is so "old Florida"! The visitors center is small but interesting, and the walk around the lake is fun. We took the green trail and were able to see the Eagles feeding their fledglings! We didn't see any scrub jays, but met two...More

Take your camera. Interesting place to go for a hike and see rare scrub jays and bald eagles. Excellent guided walk with a park ranger (call for times). Smallish compared to some FL state parks and rarely crowded making it easy to get around and...More

We didn't do much in the park besides camp. Campsites, although close together, seem quite private due to all the plant life surrounding them. We didn't have a problem with mosquitos! I was worried about this but I got very few bites. This was a...More

In March there are few if any mosquitos, in September there will be some especially at dawn and sunset.

Yes, there is a bus stop! It's about a mile walk in to get to Lake Osprey and the Nature Center, but there is the South Creek Picnic area and multiple trails on your way in!

Sorry we didn't get to this question in a timely manner (it's a busy season for events here at the park!). In spring, summer and early fall, you can generally come into the park and there will be a site available, but there... More
