I took the bioluminescent kayak tour with my kids (11 and 6) and we loved it for the most part. My biggest gripe is that the tour was so spread out (due to various levels of kayak experience). We missed 95% of our tour guide’s spiel. I asked the sweeper to regurgitate some of what we missed but he acted like it wasn’t his job. There were some aggressive kayakers on this tour so it was hard to stay close to the lead guide. I would suggest one of two things here: 1) let the rear guide give the facts to the stragglers or 2) do a tour sometime (maybe a few times a months) just for kids or beginners.

For me personally it was frustrating to catch up only to have the group take off the moment the stragglers caught up.

The tour guides did a great job overall. Our rear guide, Cole, was great.

Overall I would recommend this trip. Mother Nature pulled off some cool tricks here. I’ve never seen anything like it anywhere else.

Im glad to hear that you got to experience some of mother natures cool tricks and enjoyed your tour overall. We do apologize that you felt left out for the speeches, we will definitely speak with the guides to avoid this happening in the future and keep your recommendations in mind. We look forward to another tour with you and your family.

Long story short, we were on a 10 person raft, you have to help paddle but it’s not like when you’re alone in a kayak. The glow was great since right now in July/August is peak season. The water only gets as deep as 5 or 6 feet the most (if I remember correctly) to tell you that sometimes when you paddled you felt the sand floor. We also stopped at a sand bar and we used flashlights to find shrimp, hermit crabs and grab seashells. Our guide, Sandy, was very friendly, sweet, knowledgeable. My teenage girls were mesmerized and mind blown 🤯 throughout the entire tour. I personally did a similar by kayak in Puerto Rico and thus one by far is my favorite, more enjoyable in my opinion.

We were on the June 6th tour in Courtney and Jacob's group, and we loved the experience! We did the sunset/bioluminescence tour, and enjoyed watching the sunset and watching mullets jump out of the water, then had a great time learning about and seeing the bioluminescent organisms after the sun had set. Luckily, both the jellies and dinoflagellates were active that night, so we could see bluish, glittery pinpricks of light (from the jellies) and green glowing clouds (from the dinoflagellates) in the water. Courtney and Jacob were very good tour guides and did a great job of wrangling the whole group and making sure that everyone had a safe and enjoyable experience. Would strongly recommend!

Thank you! Courtney and Jacob will be happy to know you had a great time on their tour. The sunset and bioluminescence is easily one of the best experiences we offer because of the amount of wildlife you get to see and learn about. Thank you again for taking the time to write this glowing review!

We booked the family raft as we have 3 kids and not enough adults to paddle in the kayaks. I love that they offer this as it allowed us to get out on the water.
Overall we had the experience advertised however we left quite disappointed. I wish there was off season pricing as our family paid $500 and two out of 7 saw a couple specks of light in the water, a heron, and half of us saw a tiny sting ray.
We understood we booked in a transition period and also a full moon however we assumed incorrectly the tour would only operate if some bioluminescence were visible.
I do recommend the company but only book in the summer or you will be disappointed and overpay. Even the website states the nights with poor outcomes should be viewed as donations to the small business. They got a very large donation from us this time, the next time we pay I will be wiser and only book during prime season to ensure we get the tour we purchased.

Hey there, We are sorry you didn't get to see too much of the bioluminescence, it can be very unpredictable as it is a natural phenomenon. Our winter times do have good bioluminescence, especially with our comb jellies, but it seemed the conditions that night weren't quite right. We hope you had a good time otherwise and thank you for choosing BK Adventure!

Our family did the Bioluminescent Rafting Tour in mosquito lagoon. The booking staff was very helpful. The guides were extremely knowledgeable, great with the kids and adults alike. I do recommend long pants, long sleeves and bug spray and picaridin bug repellant lotion. They had a Porta potty at the site which was very well kept. Our family is very accustomed to using paddles so we never felt any strain but the guide said that other groups sometimes have to stop halfway through and head back because they are too tired. Not only did we see the bioluminescent plankton but also lots of wildlife.

We knew the tour was going to be unique, but it was really even more fantastic than we imagined. The bioluminescence glows in such beautiful brilliant ways, it seems like you are in a movie. We tried to take photos and video, but it just doesn’t capture what you see. The clear kayaks were so neat, and the bioluminescence glowed under your seat. Please please do this, and get a clear kayak. Heather and Aaron were our guides and gave us great information and set us up for success. Highly recommend!

Sammi and Jewels made the best they could of unfortunate weather. We had some higher winds so we didn’t get the full sunset experience but they went above and beyond to still give us a fun experience. We even managed to see a couple gators!

My family and I attempted to do the Beacon 42 Clear Kayaking Bioluminescence in early January. We were only able to be out for less than 15 minutes due to the weather that evening. Our guide Dan was wonderful during the time and was able to show us a few cone jellyfish which glowed when disturbed by the oars.

Since the winds were so bad we had to cut the tour short and return. Back on shore we were told we would need to call the office for a rain check. However, when I called a few days later, the guy I spoke to in their office claimed that they did not do a bioluminescence tour at this time of the year. He kept saying it must have been some other company, even after I tried explain that we had indeed gone with them. I kept getting cut off and wasn't even able to give him our last name or reservation number for him to cross check. I saw it was fruitless to try to continue dealing with the person.

I would recommend if you do go with this company, make sure you will have good weather because you might not have much luck with the office when trying to confirm a rain check.

What a night! Leo was our superb tour guide for the raft trip out of Beacon 42 Boat Launch. We left at 8:10pm after a safety review and returned at 9:30pm. Six friends had Leo guide us into the lagoon and immediately net comb jellyfish. Leo provided excellent explanations of the NASA property we were on, and of the lagoons governed by the National Park Service. We were educated on the chemical reaction of comb jellyfish luciferin with oxygen, resulting in the blue glow of the coral/sponge relative. All 6 of us netted comb jellyfish ourselves, held them, and tickled them to illuminate them. Leo took 20 photos of us and our experience and immediately texted them to us. Thank you Leo and BK adventures for a night to remember.

Took a rafting bioluminescence tour. It was fantastic. Amazing to see. Our guide Sami was very pleasant. You do have to work a bit since the passengers paddle the raft but it’s well worth it. Nature at its finest.
