My friend and I were in the area to dine at the Stubborn Mule. We were there on a Saturday night and of course had to wait about an hour for our table. We were able to walk to Thornton Park while we waited. We sat on a bench by the water and really enjoyed it! The area is beautiful and I can’t wait to hopefully come back to explore some more!

We stayed in a vacation home in Thornton Park for a month. What a great area! In a 3-4 block area, there are numerous restaurants, bars, salons and shops. On the 2nd Thursday of each month, they have a wine and art walk that is a blast. For $10, you get a glass and a map to over 15 establishments that will gladly pour you wine or beer. This is very popular. On Sundays, they have a farmers market in Lake Eola park. Live music, lots of food and crafts, and wine and beer. Its a beutiful park to walk around. We enjoyed our stay so much, we are planning to come back for two ons next winter.

Cobbled streets, fantastic bungalows, Colonial, Mediterranean and more. all cobblestone streets, small main street with a few shops and restaurants and great Raw Juice and Detox bar - all vegan. It was brutally hot out the day we were there and we still walked virtually every cobbled street never seeing even one other tourist. This is not a kid destination unless they have a geeky, twisted fascination with historical districts, architecture, quaint cobbled streets, etc.

We were in Orlando on business at the convention center and not big fans of pseudo environments like the theme parks, so if you are in the same boat it is worth the short drive to this area to just walk the quiet little side streets. Totally local, great experience and so NOT International Drive.

Thornton Park is a neighborhood in the "Real Orlando." Beautiful historic homes and bed and breakfasts withing walking distance of restaurants or the park at Lake Eola. We like to stay here because the park has an incredible playground. Sometimes it is tough to entertain kids when you stay in a hotel or bed and breakfast. Here, you can take them for a walk in a beautiful, safe neighborhood or to the playground (with activities for all ages) or for a walk around Lake Eola. BTW, on the other side of the lake (a bit of a walk) are white swan paddleboats for rental. The restaurants also are top of the line, especially, Hue and Dexter's.

Thornton Park has many good restaurants and cute shops. The walk around Lake Eola is beautiful. Go on a Sunday for the weekly Farmers Market. This takes you away from the tourist attractions to see what Orlando is really like!

This was the first place we went after unpacking the car. We are waiting for kids to fly in before hitting the parks so we went exploring in the Thornton Park area. The lake is very pretty and full of all kind of water fowl. The fountain out in the middle of the lake was beautiful as was the bird sculpture at the edge of the lake. We walked around the lake then took the free Lymo buses that circles the district for a quick and easy way to get around. The ladies at the visitor center on Church and Orange were very nice. Please remember to sign their visitors log. Too many little nooks to mention all of them so take an outing to Thornton Park and check them out!

When we moved out here, we knew we loved Thornton Park, but we never knew after a year out neighborhood would still have so many new things for us to do!

We have discovered some great local eats (Mucho, WildSide BBQ, Sonoma, CityFish for Happy Hour) and then end the evenings with a walk around Lake Eola. Look for my favorite swans, the ones with the black beaks. And you never know what you are going to run into, or who you will see. There's a festival almost every weekend. If not people watching, walk the neighborhoods to see the many different historical houses from the 20's and 30's.

If like me all you knew about Orlando previously was the highways and the big attractions (DisneyWorld, SeaWorld, PlasticButtonWorld...), you would probably be just as excited as I was to learn about Thornton Park, a suburban area with lovely homes, etc. I walked down Washington Avenue from Valhalla Bakery over to Lake Eola Park, stopping along the way at Graffiti Junktion for lunch, and it was a lovely walk.

We found this area quite by accident after we took a wrong turn off the highway. We turned down the most quaint little street that is lined with wonderful turn of the century arts and crafts homes. There's a little lake right in the centre of the area. Lots of places to eat as well. Park the car and walk.
