I had booked our kayaks for the down river paddle at Silver Springs probably a couple of months ahead. I was a little worried about the no refunds, rain check only policy as two or our party were from out of state and not likely to be back any time in the near future if the weather didn't cooperate. However, the weather was beautiful.

Two of us had done the paddle up and back from Ray's Wayside Park twice before lugging and launching my own equipment. It is a long tiring paddle from Ray's to the main spring and back.

This was a much much better experience and Discovery Kayaks was terrific and very reasonable. We got there a little earlier than we were supposed to and they were almost done unloading. In a few minutes, after paying the park entry fee and a quick rundown, we were on the water. The kayaks and the equipment were first rate. Wilderness Systems and Perceptions. None of those bargain kayaks that I could see.

We dawdled on our trip downstream and as we pulled into Ray's, Discovery was there ready and waiting to haul us out and bring us back to our car parked back at the park. So much more pleasant, easier, and efficient than bringing our own kayaks. Plus, we saved ourselves half a day by just doing the easy downstream paddle. I highly recommend Discovery and the next time I take someone to Silver Springs, I will most definitely be booking with them and not be fooling with my own kayaks.

As we hit the road for two weeks in the US in each state we tried to do something special shooting in Texas Kayaking in Florida. I can tell that this was one of the best programs we had in the two weeks. We saw a few manatees and huge alligators sunbathing on the side. The water is super clean and transparent, you can see all sort of plants and it is just breathtaking. Our tour guide was very helpful and kind, as we never paddled or kayaked before we were a bit unsure about how we will do... but there were no issues at all. Overall it's real quality for money and a never-forget kind of experience. I would totally recommend it.

I booked a kayak last minute night before to go down Silver Springs and the next morning I was met by Ryan, the owner of the company. He provided with an awesome kayak that I want to purchase one just like it and gave me some tips and advice about the trip. It was a bucket lists day for me! I had hopes of seeing manatees and alligators on my trip and boy did I! I saw 5 manatees, 6 gators, the famous Silver Springs monkeys, a river otter and countless fish, turtles and birds. This was the best paddle of my life even though it started raining toward the end. I am glad I booked this option as the guided tours I was looking into were far more expensive. With this option I had a chance to go at my own pace and explore the paradise of Silver Springs river for myself. I definitely recommend this option if you are comfortable in a kayak. Even though I went out solo there were enough other people on the river at certain times that I never once felt unsafe or scared. Ryan basically did all the work of transporting the kayak to and from the water and providing a shuttle back to my car at the end! Excellent service, equipment and experience!!! 10/10 would do this again and again!

We booked two kayaks, online, for a Saturday morning run. It’s a busy time for this company but they were agreeable, helpful, and approachable if you had any questions. I was with a friend and we’re both in good shape, but at 68 and 69, we were concerned about ingress and egress. No worries, we were helped into and out of the kayaks at launch, and once we reached the Wayside Park where they will meet you and drive you back to the parking lot.
I know they offer tours, but I honestly didn’t see anybody using this option. We shoved off from the launch area, paddled downriver, and were picked up at Wayside. Apparently, some people weren’t going all the way to the pickup. They appeared to stay near the launch area and headed over to the Silver Springs park or paddled around a couple of islands in the launch area.
We loved the crystal clear water and viewing all the fish below. We didn’t see any monkeys or Manatees but did see plenty of turtles, wading birds, and the obligatory alligators. Serene.
ISSUE: This has nothing to do with Discovery as they were great. The problem is taking this trip on a weekend. About halfway down the river to the pickup point, we started encountering motorboats. At first, just a few. But soon after seeing the first boat, it turned into a boat parade. All types of boats, Smoky exhausts, even Jet Skis. The first group of Jet Skis were playing LOUD country music but were soon followed by more Jet Skis paying LOUD hard rock. We had so many power boats coming upriver, that, at times, all the kayakers had to move over to the side of the river for the boats to pass.
One result of this clown parade is any wildlife in hearing distance was long gone.
Why they allow this to happen is beyond explanation. I say paddles only.
My suggestion is to schedule this trip during the week as most of these boaters will be at work.

There were 13-15 active manatees at Salt Spring run today! I have done quite a few Manatee tours, but this day was really special. We could see the Manatees grouping and swimming around right away.

Ryan pointed out a Manatee calf. It was gorgeous. 3-4' long. It was under water a foot or so, looking right up at me with all the wonder of a child.

There were sights of Old Florida all along the way - no condos or houses! We were the only kayakers on the water.

The day started out cold. So, I had a sweater, a life jacket and wind breaker and I was very comfortable. Life jackets are foam and hold heat very well. I did not even get my feet wet because Ryan Toler, the guide and the owner of the company, had me sit in the kayak on shore Then he pushed my kayak afloat. After the paddle he pulled me back on shore.

I really enjoyed myself, and Ryan could identify and talk about anything I asked about.

This was truly an enjoyable ... relaxing kayaking experience. We did not bring our kayaks down this trip but wanted to (hopefully) view some manatees. We were met at launch and pick up, no waiting our host was right there. Great equipment.

We literally just floated down the river 75% of the time and when our final destination was in sight we were not ready to leave.

Highly recommended, whether you rent like we did this time (btw very reasonable) or have your own equipment but need transporting. We will definitely use again, especially when family is down and wanting an adventure

I have taken more than a dozen trips with Discovery Kayak Tours and each has been outstanding. The owner, Ryan, is safety first. The service and equipment are first rate. Ryan is a local who has extensive knowledge of the wild life we encounter as well as an encyclopedic knowledge of the history of the area - as well as being a genuinely nice guy.

If you want to paddle the Silver River, rent their kayaks. They are currently better than the ones that Silver Springs State Park rents out, for about $10 more.

Plan for 3 1/2 hours for kayaking and shuttle back to the park.

You still have to pay $2 park entrance fee to park your car.

We have our own Kayaks. Discovery Kayaks provides shuttle service for the Silver Springs, FL area. We took our kayaks to Silver Springs State Park and took the 5 mile run to Ray Wayside Park. We met Ryan at the State Park and paid our transport fee. The fee for transport from Ray Wayside Park back to Silver Springs State park was $10 per person including the transport of our kayaks. To me, this was an excellent bargain. We only needed one vehicle to take this kayak trip from Deltona, FL. We arrived at the park and unloaded our kayaks as well as paid the State Park fees for the visit and launching ($2 park fee and $4 launching fee per person/kayak). Ryan was parked right in front of us at the launch site and greeted us. At 10 AM, we told Ryan that we were launching and said our temporary farewells. We traveled leisurely down the Silver River and arrived at Ray Wayside at about three hours and Ryan was already there. he helped us load up our kayaks and off we went after a brief wait for other clients to get a full load. At the State Park he helped us unload and pack our kayaks back on my truck. HE DID NOT HAVE TO DO THIS! what an excellent GUY!

We booked on-line for 11am and arrived at Silver Springs just after 10:30. What they don't tell you is there is not only a van marked with "Discovery" but also an unmarked white truck. Us and the other group for 11am both went to the Marked van and knocked on the window. No one home. Finally, after 45 minutes of searching for the Discovery guy, 3 phone calls & texts someone showed up by the Kayaks. Maybe he was asleep in the truck. I don't know. How he didn't see (2) different groups of people knocking on the van window right in front of him we have no idea.

Once in the water, we had an amazing afternoon on the river. Lots and lots of wildlife.
Huge Gator, Monkey, Manatees, Turtles, Fish, Birds. We will definintely be doing this trip again. The State Park also does rentals and they had lots of hands and seemed very efficient but it seemed as if their kayaks rentals took a different pathway down the river which appeared much narrower.
