- ollis43 contributionsEvery horse gals dreamAs a decades old horse lover this was a 10 star experience. It would've been beyond my dreams as a 10 year old horse fanatic. Karen is a wealth of information about horses (because she's been there and done that) and she'll share the history of Ocala and how it became the horse capital of the world. You will drive on country roads and see many private farms and then get to visit some so you can get up close and personal with these wonderful animals. Karen provides the horse treats too!Sorry for the delayed response.Wow, I never thought anybody would want to give me 10 stars, I remember and you were a 10-star guest!! - Joshua C3 contributionsFantastic tour of Ocala horse farmsThis tour was fantastic! Karen is a wonderful and warm tour guide. To say she is knowledgeable about horses and Ocala horse farms is like saying Einstein was knowledgeable about physics in the at it does not truly capture the fountain of knowledge she possesses. I can’t recommend this tour enough. Even my 5 year old with zero interest in horses enjoyed it.Thank you so much for your kind words! What a huge compliment! We never did a horse farms tours before, and we were not disappointed. Tour was easy to book online, with clear directions where to go. Owner-operator was great, very knowledgeable about the horses and area, kept everyone comfortable and engaged. We had three stops, and experiences at each one were different. We got to be up-close to horses and learned so many new things. I would highly recommend this tour for anyone who likes farms and horses. - Marlena CCedar Grove, New Jersey5 contributionsHorse lovers should not miss this tourWe took this tour during our weeklong visit to WEC, and it was worth every penny. My two horse-loving teenagers and the parents alike enjoyed visiting the various farms and meeting the horses. What I didn't anticipate was how much we would learn about how the farms work and about the history of horse breeding and training in Ocala. Karen was an engaging and expert guide, and her van was very comfortable. I highly recommend it!!Visited August 2024Traveled with familyWritten September 8, 2024

We took the 8:30 am tour and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. Karen has lived in Ocala for 30 years, worked as an equine vet tech, and owns horses herself, so she really knows her stuff. We saw thoroughbreds galloping on a training track at the first farm, beautiful Arabians at the second, and several renowned studs at the third. Karen brings a supply of carrots, so we were able to see a number of horses up close and personal! We got to meet a retired thoroughbred, Presious Passion, who holds the track record at Monmouth Park in NJ and was nominated for the Eclipse award back in the day. Karen patiently answered all our questions and we never felt rushed. I can't recommend this tour highly enough to fellow horse lovers.

We would highly recommend Farm Tours of Ocala. The owner, Karen, provided a wonderful tour of several horse farms where we were able to see the full spectrum of caring for and breeding thoroughbreds and Arabian horses. With Karen's decades of experience and invaluable connections, we got beyond the gates and behind the scenes, providing us with a very rare opportunity well worth the price of admission! If you love horses, you will love this tour.

As a horse lover the tour was over the top. Visiting three farms, including an Arabian farm and getting up close to these beautiful 4 legged athletes was quite a thrill. Karen Grimes, owner and tour guide, has unmatched experience and made the tour an incredibly fun experience. Highly recommend this tour if you have even the smallest interest in horses.

This was a fantastic tour! The tour guide was warm, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable. She made the tour interesting and fun with many facts about the horses, horse farms, and even the history of the city of Ocala itself. It was a nice blend of viewing farms from the van and of actually walking on the farms themselves. Interacting with and feeding the horses were highlights of the trip. Getting to see the landscapes was breathtaking. I would highly recommend doing this tour; it was worth every penny and then some.

This was a great experience! We toured three horse farms and learned a wealth of information about horses, training, and the Ocala area. We watched thoroughbreds running and got up close with a dozen or so different horses. Our guide was knowledgeable and experienced. Highly recommend this tour.

I took a trip in Florida recently and the route took me through Ocala, Florida's horse country. The farms, horses and countryside were so beautiful that it made me want to return, learn more and get closer to the horses. I looked on the internet and found Farm Tours of Ocala. The tours offered there seemed like a perfect way to do that. The website had all the information I needed and it was very easy to sign up for a tour. I was by myself but had a great time with 4 others who were in the tour. The owner Karen is so knowledgeable about the area and the horses, I learned a lot. She takes great care to ensure her guests are comfortable and have a great time. Each destination was unique and the horses so sweet and affectionate. I loved it and highly recommend Farm Tours of Ocala!

We highly recommend this tour for anyone interested in horses! We really enjoyed our tour with Karen, visiting several lovely horse farms, and learning a lot about the equine industry that is such an important part of Ocala! Karen is so knowledgeable, having worked in the industry herself for many years, and she told interesting stories that really gave us an inside look at the farms we visited. We were able to interact with some of the beautiful horses, and learned about the different breeds and functions and rehab of the horses. We walked a bit, but they were not a difficult walks, and there were bathrooms available at some of the stops. We would highly recommend this tour. Very interesting morning!

Very interesting and informative. My wife and I have lived in Marion County since 1988 and have some friends involved in the horse industry and we learned a lot during today’s tour. We booked the tour because we have friends that are visiting from out of state who like horses and wanted to see some farms. We enjoyed visiting the farms and learning about them and some of the other farms. The real treat was interacting with several horses… that was awesome. I honestly would have given the tour a 5 out of 5 rating except for the fact that when I made telephone contact prior to booking, I asked for details about the tour and I was told we would visit 3 horse farms. We actually visited 2 farms plus Ocala Breeder Sales which had no horses onsite and was strictly an informational type visit to a facility that is open to the public anyway. Also, the information on the tour website describes being able to meet and I talk with trainers at the farms visited, but that didn’t happen either. So our guests were not disappointed at all and thoroughly enjoyed the tour but I was expecting to visit 3 working farms, not just 2 plus a vacant sales facility.

I’m so glad we booked this wonderful tour of the horse farms of Ocala! We learned so much about horses from Ashley as we toured the farms and the spectacular World Equestrian Center. It was a real treat to be so close to so many horses. We also got a kick out of the farm dogs that escorted us about looking for carrot treats! I would recommend this tour to horse enthusiasts and really anyone who wants to learn about horses from someone who truly knows and cares for them.

Karen is amazing. This 3+hour tour was fairly in-depth, insightful, and just a bunch of fun. Karen knows her stuff, she is a horsewoman, and it shows. Fair warning...this is not a tour really for kids unless the child is REALLY into horses and not too young. What a great value for what you get to see, learn and do. Thank you Karen and thank you to the farms who trust and respect her enough to let her bring in visitors.

Is this tour enjoyable for kids (we have an 11 and 9 year old)?
Written March 24, 2017
Hi Kids are allowed but they have to be very, very well behaved. It is not one for very young ones. To be honest, any kids under 12 seem to get bored. They love the horses of course but it seems that they get really antsey between the stops.

My apologies, we have discontinued afternoon tours to the farms we visit. Afternoons became too disruptive with feed time, breeding times. Farm owner`s personal schedules.

Hi! Since these answers, our price has gone to $50 per person with $5 of each person going to Florida Retired Equine Champions to help horses and the Ocala Farm Ministry to help people. I would like to note I have never charged $20. Just to avoid any backlash Maybe a different tour?
