Very good parking area with great facilities for horses if riding. No wildlife evident during dry season. There has been some activity when water is present. A short but well maintained hard pack circular walking trail.

We entered directly off 41. Parked and walked around the foot trail. Not much to see in the 3/5 of a mile path during the dry season. Did not walk the horse trail. However we then followed the Google Maps directions to the same park and were led to nothing but a turnaround. However there was a silver lining. On that road there was a bonsai nursery which we visited which was great. (The highlight of the trip) That stop is reviewed separately on Trip Advisor.

I’ve been riding this preserve for years. Great day out with friends. Fantastic parking area for horse trailers. Clean bathrooms. Great watering area for the horses. We wish that there were watering tanks along the trails for the horses, though. During Season, this is a go-to place to ride. 90% of trails are dry. You can spend hours and ride miles of trails out here. Years ago, Commissioner Tammy Hall had a lumber company come in a strip clear hundreds of acres of natural pines. It was a sad year. Where did all that money go????? Umm. Company paid “someone “ thousands per truck load. Hundreds of truckloads were taken out every morning at 5:30am. I know. I witnessed them heading to work for over a year. So, Ms Tammy..... who got the money? You got out of jail as they were doing this cultivation. Ummm (again). Anyway, don’t ride here during the rainy season of late Spring/Summer. It’s very wet and overgrown. Can be dangerous if your horse sinks in. Otherwise, it’s a great adventure so bring a lunch and some fun riding buddies. Oh, watch out for homeless people in the front of the park. I think the rangers have put the word out and hopefully put a stop to their campsites. Also, they’ve had issues with wild pigs as with every 20/20 properties. Horses are not fond of pigs. Ride safe my friends.

The parking is great, the bathrooms are great, but the riding area is flat, often muddy, and no shade at all. Pop Ash riding area is far superior...great water crossings in the rainy season, several oak hammocks, varying trails and terrain.
