I haven't been to the Shell Factory in years but we had family visiting from out of state and they wanted to see it so we went. I was pleased to see many of the improvements they've made, mostly to the restaurant and outside bar area. The game room inside the gift shop has been updated.
Other areas are dilapidated. It appears the bumper boats no longer run and the deck around that area has completely fallen apart. You can no longer get fish food from the outside machines using quarters. Honestly, it looks like someone bashed the machines with baseball bats so why hasn't management removed them? The gift shop has the same roof leak issue it has had for 10+ years...why can't management fix that issue?
We visited on a Friday afternoon, had a few drinks at the outside bar and people watched for a bit before we left.
I doubt it's worth visiting the Shell Factory again unless management focuses on repairs.

We enjoyed our visit to the store. Fun merchandise offering (both unique and cheesy souvenirs) with friendly staff. I asked my husband if he enjoyed the store and his reply was “shell yeah”……

Only downside was the fudge shop section. We tried to purchase items from the display case twice - and both times the workers made eye contact but didn’t want to help. We even said “excuse me” but they still did not assist.

Definitely recommend for vacationers when they visit the area.
We went on a day that was unusually warm so we opted not to do any of outdoor activities.

We brought our grandchildren (2 yr and 8 yr) to The Shell Factory last weekend and were disappointed with the condition of the park. We purchased a $35 pass for our granddaughter and the carousel ride was not included and I had to buy a ticket to ride with my 2 year old granddaughter who could not ride alone. The animal park was very worn and we did not engage with many of the animals. The rides are faded, old and need an overhaul. The worst part was the arcade - included in the pass. Very cumbersome process for redeeming tickets and the staff was spread so thin we had to go interrupt the person working the pizza counter to help. We've visited a lot of theme type parks and this will not be on our list in the future.

Visited on a rainy afternoon on June 19, 2022. Buckets were strewn throughout the venue to collect rain leaking through the ceilings. We visited just for the gift shop but it looked like many of the other attractions were shut down due to the rain. I felt like I was going through a time warp entering this building. All of the shells, magnets, ornaments and other items looked like they had been sitting on the shelves for a long long time. The t-shirts and other apparel seemed dated and didn't go past a size 2x. The Christmas shop smelled of wet artificial trees and mildew. There was a creepy Santa that I assume was used for photo ops but I wouldn't go near it as it had a dirty red velvet pillow on him where a kid would sit. The workers seemed to stare off into space as they waited at the registers for a customer. The only section that seemed modern was the fudge shop. Bought 3 slabs of fudge and tried to cash out 2 postcards at the same time but was turned away as the fudge shop was not a part of the Shell factory. Creepy twig ballerina took the cake. Just plain odd. Nothing like it was when I brought my kids 10 years ago. Needs serious upgrades, a roofing job, and all new inventory in my opinion.

We stopped in to see the place, and were very disappointed.
It is an old store selling touristy trinkets and shells, along with many items made in China. This place is very old and rundown and needs to be fixed or torn down. I have never seen such a large amount of over priced junk under one roof.

If the management responds to this review, I predict they will say the following:
“We will take this up with our staff”.

This was absolutely depressing. The condition many of these animals are kept in is abuse. The gift shop is a major disaster waiting to happen and the customer service is terrible. We decided not to spend anymore money at this place knowing it isn’t going anywhere truly needed. We regret paying so much for the tickets and wish we read about the animals before coming. We have started a report with local authorities.

The place needs some serious help it is very run down. The bumper boats are old and worn out. The nature zoo has few animals and is not worth the money. The birds will attack you. The gift shop has everything you need to put a lovely touch on a white trash trailer park.
The only positive thing I can think to say is that the food at the grill is not horrible.

I attended a July 4th event at the Shell Factory which I paid $100 per couple to have access to the VIP area. Unfortunately the experience was poor and unsafe. People were let in without paying the fee, the advertised band did not play and a fight amongst the non-paying guest broke out right at our table. There was no security visible or present. I do not recommend this place for families. I will not be returning.

Stinky, Nasty, Mildew, Disappointed. Bought Nothing love ( Not Really ) the buckets all over the floor catching water from the roof! Been waiting 5 yrs to go see this place and living in Florida we just never did get there until now. Was so excited until we walked in. Don't waste your time. By the way Big Roach ran right by us on the floor. Just in front of the little zoo the big bird's area smelled horrible. Only thing we enjoyed was the LARGE COW! Very cool even though we were just seeing it from across the pond. Sure, hope someday they clean this place up and make it a great showplace but right now its Terrible.

Do NOT renovate this place! There's nothing left from the ol' days but the Shell Factory. The opinions of tourists and snowbirds who want everything to look like Disney World do-not-matter.

Keep rescuing animals that have been hurt or taken from horrible circumstances.
Keep the Christmas Shoppe like it's 1975. My little girls are fascinated by the way things used to be and find it almost magical in its gritty reality.
A children's theater there is a GREAT idea. Have childrens' camps there all summer to keep it going. Realize many locals long for the old days - before hoards of rude people overcame our utopia.

Stay original and different and I'll keep patronizing this remnant of Florida's golden age.
