15 miles of beautiful white sandy beaches looking west over the Gulf of Mexico means everyone gets a beautiful sunset.
Residents living on Millionaires Row, families on vacation, and couples on a day trip from Fort Myers are all here for the same reason: gorgeous beaches.
We've explored about 10 miles of the beaches this trip, and haven't found a bad view.
Late April and early May is a great time to visit -- the Spring Breakers and Snowbirds are gone and it's not scorching hot yet. September and October are also great for similar reasons.

Captiva Beach is a beautiful place to watch a sunset, pure and simple. On the day we visited to eat at The Mucky Duck (do NOT recommend), we strolled over to the beach. During Thanksgiving week, this beach was crowded. If you have social distancing concerns, this is not the beach for you. One can rent a variety of items and watercraft on this beach.

This Beach has two parking lots available about 3 miles apart. Parking though can be hard to find if you don’t get there early. 25$ for 2 hours or 40$ for entire day(10hours) There are port a potty but no showers available.
Several beach side restaurants are a short walk down the beach. The sand tends to be a little squishy compared to other beaches we have been to. Due to the nature of the beaches location. There is a slight shelf /ridge as you enter the water making entering a little tricky with the waves. Only stumbled a few times lol.

Holly cow $25 for 2 HOURS, $45 for the DAY! This price gouging makes me soooo sad and is so unfair for some many people, couples wanting a few hour get away, young working families, retired folks on a budget. A normal day trip that you had to hustle out a bit bc of the traffic now is going to be reserved forThe well off and specials occasions due to the price. I would love to spend the extra money on the stores and restaurants on the island. I understand the prices have to go up but this jump puts a bad taste in my mouth. Live just off island, always have loved shooting over for a few good hours of paradise And now my heart breaks to know those trips will be lessened significantly due to the price increase. Shame on you Sanibel and Captiva for not being able come up with more tiers of pricing. $25 for 2 hours ugh.

Our family has been going here occasionally for decades. It is beautiful, although there are better beaches, but the challenge is getting there. In shoulder season, like November, it's not a problem. But we were there in February this year and from N. Fort Myers it took us 2 hours to get to the beach and even longer to get home. Traffic, traffic, traffic. Then add to that $6 for the bridge toll, $5 per hour to park, extremely limited parking, only dirty porta potties for facilities, and it's just not worth it. We'll try again maybe in a few years, but not in peak season.

Wonderful beach, warm clear water surrounded by nature. You will see a variety of sea birds and likely to watch dolphins playing in the water near you. Either you staying in one of the comfortable accommodations in the island or just going for a day you won’t be disappointed. Arrive early since the parking spaces are very limited and leave late after seen a stunning sunset.

Stayed at South Seas. Sitting on the beach on a lounge and umbrella was great. Water beautiful and sand soft. We also watched a sunset from the beach, it was not too crowded and I saw the "green flash" for the first time in my life! So cool!

I’m sure it’s a nice beach but I just couldn’t see paying 25 dollars for 2 hours of parking. Apparently this is their way of keeping it to locals and those staying in Captiva. We didn’t even bother after seeing the outrageous parking fee. Stick with the beaches on Sanibel.

There is no public access to this beach except Alison Hagerup Beach Parking which has almost no parking spots and is a paid lot with no bathrooms. The toll is $6 to get across the causeway and then I could not get to the beach because of lack of parking. Traffic was horrible and I do not recommend visiting Captiva.

There is nowhere to park. This appears to be an elitist island in order to even get on the beach u have to stay there. Parking lots r either closed or the few spots r packed even during the week. Alotta hype about it before our Sanibel trip but noone said u can't see it, park at it, or enjoy this "public" beach

Hi,
we had the Captiva Hampton Cottage, which is a bit old, but very charming. It is located on Wightman Lane and you can rent it via Royal Shell Vacation Rentals.
We also had a rental on Laika Lane (had to switch due to availability), which was more expensive, but didn't have the nice big screened porch.
Sorry, I didn't see your question earlier.
Have a nice vacation!
Kind regards
Klaus

Hi,
Leaving for Captiva Thursday, October 11th to celebrate our birthdays. Trying to make the decision if we should reroute our vacation to another destination (Key West) due to red tide issues. Any guidance you can provide regarding local conditions is truly appreciated. This is our first visit to Captiva and super excited to visit but with asthma issues, etc. not sure if we should risk it.
Thank you!!!!

I'm going to be staying at South Seas the last week of October. What is the latest I hear maybe it's getting a little better? Any insights would be much appreciated.

If your on facebook, there is a Captiva Island facebook page where folks post pictures almost daily. I was down last month and we had three great days and two bad days. Really depends on wind direction.
In general, things are much better, but if you catch a prolonged west wind, red tide will blow in.

Hola!

Hi
I am worried about red tide and beach conditions on Captiva Island. Can't seem to get any answers from the media. Like mommydeare I am wondering about cancelling .

It changes from day to day. I have a renter on the Island this week. Saturday was awful, today was OK. Conditions can change in a few hours depending on tide and wind direction.

Have Reservations in Captiva for Thanksgiving. Will red tide problem dissipate by then or should we try to cancel & rebook?

This red tide certainly is severe and persistent, but absolutely no way of knowing what the conditions will be in November.
