Made an appointment, met the owner and found some great Items left from the Museum of Speed display. The owner retired, sold his building, after selling a huge portion of the 40+ year collection of Automobilia and over half of the 30+ cars but, still had a great selection of stuff left. I found Gas/ Oil Signs, Tobacco signs in Porcelain & Tin / Showcard Display signs. plus an Old Grocery Storefront sign! Apparently, several Museums took a great deal of the large, expensive items but, there were still Quarter Midget Race cars left, Bi-Plane models (one that flew) a really neat, Jane Mansfield manequin, a full-size 'Rocket Ride' from the Carnival, and old Pedal cars. My favorite was a full-size Art Deco, Coca Cola Market Marque Sign complete with the bottles designed inside. Plus, a rare Barry Toycraft Kiddie Corvette and a real 194o's Full size Midget Race Car. Most items I bought were located within 4 blocks of the Old Museum Building so an easy-do when in town. Really wish I could have seen the Museum.

I visit Mt Dora often as our friends here in England have a house over in Eustis. I regret that I only visited once and met Kerry who was a really, really nice guy. He spent a lot of time with me talking about his collection and even encouraged him to take his restored Vintage car on a road trip on Route 66 and recommended a driving guide to all the best bits that are left of old 66.. I can't remember what the car was, but I know on the exterior it was more or less original, but inside it had all the comforts of modern motoring.
I was particularly fond of the Porsche 911 speedster, it was beautiful.

I am back in Eustis in October 2020 and was hoping to pop along for my second visit, I will just have to be content with an ice cream in downtown Mt Dora.

Whilst I don't blame you for the decision to retire, I would like to say a personal thank you for sharing your wonderful collection for people like me to enjoy.

Wishing you all the best, and who knows, I may bump into you again on Route 66.

Hello Simon! I am really sorry to hear I missed your return to Mt.Dora. I had met so many wonderful people, like you, from all parts of the World, thanks to TripAdvisor. Yes indeed, I totally retired now, 10 years past due, and am enjoying finally getting a chance to drive (often) some of these great old cars. Thankfully, I still have the memories of visiting your Great Country, as well as the others, and the antiques I brought back with my, now, ex-wife. After 20 years in Mt.Dora (including construction), I truly miss the Old Museum and all the wonderful times I spent there. I kept this listing active as I continue to sell-off the overflow items from the Museum (phone #'s listed). I sincerely wish you and yours "Happy Trails" and infinite Good Health ! Kindest Regards; Kerry Bogard

The owner retired, sold the building and is in the process of selling his collection to private collectors. All the websites recommend it so I wanted to make sure there was at least one review that informed the public it is closed.

"MonsterMom" (jeanettey) This listing was left active as a courtesy to the folks who were trying to find us. Had you bothered to actually READ the Last 4 Reviews, they clearly note, after almost 20 years, it is indeed "Closed". Therefore, there was really no reason to post this negative,"1 Star " review... unless it was mean spirited in nature. The remaining Antiques and Automobilia are for sale ( by Appointment) to ANYONE interested. The hours are posted, and I am located just a few blocks from this address.

I hope they open up in another location. When we went there earlier in the year we were blown away with the cars and memorabilia. The owner was a amazing curator and his knowledge and attention to detail blew our minds!
I hope to see it pop up somewhere else real soon!

Thank YOU Anthony for your kind words! The Museum is still posted to sell -off the remaining displays and antiques. I 'retired' and was lucky enough to sell many of the cars and truckloads of my personal Automobilia (auto antiques) to other Museums and Private Collections. I Loved sharing a 40 yr. collection w/ folks from all over the World (thanks to TripAdvisor) but, "timing was perfect" , as 1 man bought 5 cars at once, and the building sold in 8 days. The remaining cars have been moved to another location (Classic Dreamcars) but, yes, the Museum is no longer open. Thanks to all, for the incredible success, and helping me live a Lifetime Dream for 20 years. Peace: Kerry Bogard, Owner-Curator ~ Mount Dora Museum of Speed

We too missed the chance of coming in and seeing your collection before you retired. I’m so sorry we missed it as we love cars of all types. It was right here in our back yard but we get so busy with life that we have put it off and now to our regret have missed the chance. Well wishes for your retirement and I hope you get through your bucket list now that you might have more time! Don’t be like us and have to regret not going to see/do those bucket list items. Take care.

Thank YOU 'valliam13' for your kind words. I'm sorry to have missed you. I've been busy selling off the HUGE collection of my privately owned antiques and Automobilia so, feel free to come-by and add to your collection. Several Museums and multiple Collectors have taken a boatload home already but, I had Thousands of Items on display to choose from. There's no longer any admission fee so, as they would say on 'Price is Right',..."Come'on Down" and see me. Doors close by the end of August. Can't wait to RETIRE- Whoopeee! Once again, Thanks. Recently went back only to learn the bad news of the Owner's decision to retire and close the museum. But now the GREAT NEWS … finding 100's of his previously displayed antiques for sale from 1/4 Midget race cars to Automobilia … porcelain signs, tin advertising signs, framed posters, neon signs of all sizes, autographed guitars, vintage mannequins ... on and on and on. So I indulged myself and bought some things. Owner was a delight to do business.

Thank you Mr. 'Northlake76' for your kind review. I enjoyed meeting you on your recent visit(s). Yes, It's a fact...I am finally closing the Museum after 30 great years (20 at this location). For the record :) I'm not 'going out of business' as some have queried. What finally motivated me was 10 of my best Classic Cars had offers "I couldn't refuse'' in a short amount of time, coupled with the State of FL building a new super highway direct to Mount Dora, ... it was the perfect time to market it. The 'capper' was the last negative reviews in which a handful of folks acted so "entitled", especially without even crossing my door step ! I never promised 'The Mouse' it was really a solo effort. LOL .... it WAS a Labor of Love. I've TRULY enjoyed the wonderful people I've met, literally, from all over the World. This great web site was responsible for incredible results, reaching so many from all across the Globe. I was always impressed the effort TripAdvisor goes to post 'real reviews'. So, despite a record gate, especially the last several years, I decided to close and finally retire by Sept.1. The Classic Car store will continue at a different location while I ratchet back my efforts. Thanks again for your review. Kerry Bogard, Pres.& Curator, Mt. Dora Museum of Speed.

I’m so sorry you closed. I never made it to the museum. It was someplace I always wanted to visit and I have no excuse for not doing so. It was on that “someday” list. I obviously waited to long. I’m sorry now.
I want to apologize for all the ignorant ppl who left such unappreciated reviews. They clearly didn’t understand your love of cars. I do. I would of loved to see your collection that you clearly spent you life caring for. I’m so sorry I missed it, I’m sorry you had to close. I will regret missing this for a long time. I wish you the best.

Thank you so much for your kind response. I'm so sorry to have missed you and your Family. We all have 'bucket lists" we never seem to get too, LOL. I'm right there with you. Mine is the "Gilmore Museum". I will re-open soon, to sell off the huge collection of antiques/ automobilia and, will keep the Classic Car Store going a few more years, as I still have about 16 cars left. Once again, I am sorry to miss you. Kind Regards; Kerry Bogard (owner/Curator Mount Dora Museum of Speed)

Neon sign said OPEN but owner was rude and said he should have retired at age 55 so he closed the place and posted the closing on social media so we should have known it was closed.

Mrs "Liz....buhl " All I can say is "wow"!. You must be angry because you live, literally, minutes away from the Museum, in Sorrento, and must have driven past it for 20 years... NOW, you're mad because you waited till now to come in ?? I am sorry but, you have all your facts wrong: You drove-in the property, past a gate posted "closed" ( not to mention- I have been closed on Sundays since inception), you read the door sign which said " CLOSED Thanks for 19+ Great Years, I am Retiring", and then still called me to give me a ration... because you didn't get what you want?? Your claim that I said, " I should have closed at 55" is a complete fabrication???, and the "neon sign" in the lobby is a 4 ft. Midget Race Car, not a "OPEN" sign. I Am closed during the removal & organization of a bunch of the antiques from the ceiling & walls, road art and gas pumps to offer them for sale. Then, I'll re-open to sell whats left. I am sorry you were having a bad day. Life is filled with disappointments.

Drove over from Tampa. Parking lot was roped off, so called.
Gentleman on phone was rude. Someone bought his cars, so he's closed.
Suggested he note this on tripadvisor, said no way to do it. Just not a pleasant call

Forgive me "NanaAnne", I was on a ladder 26 ft.above the floor, balancing a heavy porcelain sign, when you called. You told me you were outside the gate and read the (2) signs posted there. Those signs stated we were temporarily closed (while I prepared to sell the antiques and balance of classic cars). and, Yes, as I also told you : TripAdvisor, and other websites, logically, Do Not Permit "temporary notification of closures or seasonal closures" to be posted. Sadly, I can't redraft their rules. Seems there are folks that refuse to take 'no' for an answer. I am sorry. The temporary closure is posted on social media, the phone machine, the gate and the front door. I will re-open once thousand's of Antiques, Automobilia, Gas Pumps, Neon and Road Art is removed from the ceiling , walls, floor displays and organized for sale. I am sorry you missed us.

A 30+ year collection of high quality and rare cars. Huge collection of automobillia to complement the vehicles. Been to many "car collections", but this is very unique due to the staging of the collectables in co-ordination with the cars. It's like going to the Smithsonian for classic cars. Owner is onsite at all times to answer questions. $15 entrace fee, including tax, is extremely fair given the time and effort put into the museum.

Thank you 'Northlake76' for your glowing review. I can't tell you how much it's appreciated. Since it's not possible to post this message on the regular website, I will use this opportunity to announce: I AM CLOSING THE MUSEUM TO THE PUBLIC MAY 1, 2019 I have really enjoyed sharing my Automobilia & Rare Classic Cars with the Public for almost 19 years at this location (30 years total). The Car Dealership will continue operating in just a few weeks, after rebooting the inventory, but, ~RETIREMENT BECKONS~ ! Thanks to all for the "kind" remarks & heartfelt reviews over the years. I enjoyed making ALL of YOU happy! It was indeed a Reciprocal Romance few of us hope to achieve, and I couldn't have done it without your input. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for the stellar business in the last 2 years! . Kerry Bogard, owner, curator & janitor.
