I visit Mt Dora often as our friends here in England have a house over in Eustis. I regret that I only visited once and met Kerry who was a really, really nice guy. He spent a lot of time with me talking about his collection and even encouraged him to take his restored Vintage car on a road trip on Route 66 and recommended a driving guide to all the best bits that are left of old 66.. I can't remember what the car was, but I know on the exterior it was more or less original, but inside it had all the comforts of modern motoring.
I was particularly fond of the Porsche 911 speedster, it was beautiful.

I am back in Eustis in October 2020 and was hoping to pop along for my second visit, I will just have to be content with an ice cream in downtown Mt Dora.

Whilst I don't blame you for the decision to retire, I would like to say a personal thank you for sharing your wonderful collection for people like me to enjoy.

Wishing you all the best, and who knows, I may bump into you again on Route 66.

Simon from the UK

Hello Simon! I am really sorry to hear I missed your return to Mt.Dora. I had met so many wonderful people, like you, from all parts of the World, thanks to TripAdvisor. Yes indeed, I totally retired now, 10 years past due, and am enjoying finally getting a chance to drive (often) some of these great old cars. Thankfully, I still have the memories of visiting your Great Country, as well as the others, and the antiques I brought back with my, now, ex-wife. After 20 years in Mt.Dora (including construction), I truly miss the Old Museum and all the wonderful times I spent there. I kept this listing active as I continue to sell-off the overflow items from the Museum (phone #'s listed). I sincerely wish you and yours "Happy Trails" and infinite Good Health ! Kindest Regards; Kerry Bogard

Well, what a place. On arrival we were greeted by Cindy, who like my wife, is obviously a car enthusiast as well. A warmer greeting could not have been given. Then we met her cats (we love cats, by the way) and then Kerry, her husband, appeared from the back office. What a lovely couple. They are car enthusiasts that collect cars and auto memorabilia and also sell some very select and quality classic cars. This museum is not some huge faceless place full of stuff, but a car lovers dream garage just stuffed full of things with a story and personal memories. When you visit this homage to the automobile, you certainly get the personal touch. Not something you can say about other car collections. And some of the cars are for sale, so instead of leaving with a replica key-ring as at some museums, you could actually leave in style in a perfectly restored or original classic car! I know which I would choose if my credit card would allow it. Well worth a look if the theme parks are getting too much and only a short drive from all the usual Orlando chaos through some gorgeous countryside. Go on, do something different when you visit Florida. You won't regret it.

Last weekend I had the opportunity to visit this Museum with the Tampa Bay Section of the Mercedes-Benz Club of America. The entire experience was first class and I will no doubt return on my own to spend additional time with the many attractions -- both auto related and otherwise.

The Museum consists of a unique collection of older, historically significant cars, a number modern classics with interesting back stories, a few beautiful cars offered for sale, and, most surprisingly, a large collection of almost every imaginable article of memorabilia. It would take at least a half day to enjoy all that awaits a visitor. As a reminder, it is not really a place for children due to the narrow isles and cameras are not allowed due to past experiences with damage to cars from swinging cameras.

Our tour was personally conducted by the owner Kerry Bogard. He could not have been more accommodating. He patiently described the history and background of all the cars and many of the other memorabilia -- his expertise added greatly to our enjoyment of the day.

A highly recommended stop -- worth a trip to wonderful Mt. Dora.

Wow, 'Ron A", another great review from the MBZ Club! We are so glad you enjoyed your time here. We make a real effort to 'mix it up' for our return visitors and try to keep the vehicles rotated and displays 'upgraded'...though at the cost of Antiques & Automobilia today, it IS becoming more difficult. It is so gratifying to read that you enjoyed 'Seeing' as much as I enjoyed 'Creating' these displays! Thanks. Yes, sadly we eliminated Children being admitted years ago when we went to an Adult Only format. We couldn't blame them for getting so excited ~ it's hard enough containing the Adults sometimes. Though hardly 'R-Rated', there are so many valuable-breakables the only Kids we allow here now are The BIG Kids over 14 yrs.of age- LOL. Your Club was one of the very nicest we ever had the pleasure of meeting. Happy Motoring !

I hope they open up in another location. When we went there earlier in the year we were blown away with the cars and memorabilia. The owner was a amazing curator and his knowledge and attention to detail blew our minds!
I hope to see it pop up somewhere else real soon!

Thank YOU Anthony for your kind words! The Museum is still posted to sell -off the remaining displays and antiques. I 'retired' and was lucky enough to sell many of the cars and truckloads of my personal Automobilia (auto antiques) to other Museums and Private Collections. I Loved sharing a 40 yr. collection w/ folks from all over the World (thanks to TripAdvisor) but, "timing was perfect" , as 1 man bought 5 cars at once, and the building sold in 8 days. The remaining cars have been moved to another location (Classic Dreamcars) but, yes, the Museum is no longer open. Thanks to all, for the incredible success, and helping me live a Lifetime Dream for 20 years. Peace: Kerry Bogard, Owner-Curator ~ Mount Dora Museum of Speed

Small selection of unique cars and auto related paraphernalia. Would have been a better value at a little less admission. What was there was worthwhile. Spend time looking beyond the cars for interesting car related stuff.

Mr.Ludlow; I assure you this is not Disney World, nor - a 4th Generation-Owned- Minnesota "Treehouse" Campground. This Museum was built by me, alone, with Blood, Sweat & Tears ~ my Father, Grand Father, or Great Grand Father never gifted me a thing, except the family name. Criticism of admission from a 'entitled' member of a facility that charges -$290 to $750- Per Night seems a bit pompous, and cold-hearted. I'm sorry I couldn't make you entirely happy.

Maybe two dozen cars and some memorabilia. Good for a 20 minute walkthrough. Save your money and look for a local car show.

Mr. "NHtoFL": Interesting... the two gentlemen who were here, when you visited, were back for the 4th time! I think if you stop a moment to realize it's not 1962 anymore. Like me, you probably worked very hard for your $1.25 per hour. But, those days are gone forever. We provided the two of you with engaging entertainment in a large fully Air-Conditioned venue, a very expensive Art Deco Building, that carries heavenly taxes, insurance and maintenance just so, you could enjoy viewing over 10,000 different Antiques, including 49 Vehicles. For starters; 26 rare auto's/classic ambulances, one of 9 1952 Cadillac 'Flower Car' Hearses, a full midget race car, an array of Bumper Cars, four 1/4 Midget Race Cars, 7 Pedal cars, Soap Box Derby Car, 2 G.M. Go-Carts and a 1920's Indian Board Track Racer. I am sorry that America is seeing some uncertain times but, we find folks come here to Relive the Past and have a Good Time. Gas is no longer 23 cents a gallon, new homes no longer average $14,999, Cars cost a bit more then $2924 and bread isn't 21cents a loaf. All we try to do, is provide a bit of extraneous fun and entertainment for people who visit historic Mount Dora, sharing Our Dream and Lifetime collection of Automobilia and Petrolina. Instead of engaging in negativity, I would invite you to spend more then 19 minutes next time and I will show you what you missed. If you made the effort to read the reviews here, the majority of folks (96%) LOVE what we've done. As far as "some" memorabilia, I don't think you'll find this huge array of antiques at any local Car Show. And, I KNOW you won't see this assortment of Original, Rare Cars....unless my wife and I are there, LOL. p.s. we paid the sales tax on your admission, one of the lowest in the State.

Thank you "Jay H" ! We appreciate your making time from your visit to come see us at the Mount Dora Museum of Speed. Having had venues double this size before, we think this building is the Perfect Size to still be able to display 25 vehicles...yet, have plenty of enough room for the 1,000's of 'Antique Memories' and Automobilia. After all, it is our retirement format...and almost time to go back to the Bat Cave and spend more time with Bat Woman, or is it, The Old Bat ? LOL. Look forward to seeing you again. Kerry Bogard, Curator & CEO.

Friendly people, vintage cars, toys, planes, signs, memorabilia, and more! I was told that Mt. Dora is a lovely place to visit, but I wasn't sure if my husband would be all that interested. This place fit the bill! We enjoyed it more than anything else. I called on Friday to see if they would be open on Saturday. The friendly woman told me that her husband usually goes in on Saturday at around 11 a.m. We arrived at 11:15 and were greeted by the friendly owner who allowed us to explore on our own. He joined us every now and then with fabulous history about some of the items. Some museums are dusty and have a moldy smell. This place was beautifully arranged and clean. At $10 per person, this was a fantastic deal.

Well, Gosh Darn 'LisaD' ~ Thanks a Million for the 5-Star Review! I am so glad you had an enjoyable visit! ~We Aim to Please~ I should mention we are usually -CLOSED Saturdays- to clean and re-decorate....you got to witness my adding more emergency lights to the Vintage Ambulance. IF I'm there, folks are welcome to call first (that day) ,and then come in- please don't make a special trip to see us w/o -Calling First- (on Saturdays) as we also use that day to drive one of our cherished classics to different Car Shows all over the area. I'd hate to inconvenience someone. Thanks again for your kindness. Kerry

My husband and I had the occasion to visit this beautiful little town recently. We heard from one of the locals about a great little car museum located near the downtown historic section. Since my husband is a "car freak" we decided to make a stop. In the uptown district we discovered an easy-to-find, large grey building located on Highland Street. It is called "The Mt. Dora Museum of Speed" and it houses a classic car dealership and museum dedicated to the 50's, 60's and 70's.

We were greeted by a sweet lady who turns out to be the owners wife "Cindy". She has a gift shop at the entrance which included handmade teddy bears, baby booties and vintage purses made from family "heirloom" furs, as well as cigar box purses and other items. The gift shop also sold car models and "guy stuff" and came complete with a couple of friendly cats.

The museum is in the back of what is a huge warehouse/museum. My husband was a kid in a candy store! There was 30 -40 years of "automobilia" fastened to the walls, sitting on the floor, and hanging from the ceiling including a 1940's complete gas station built inside the building. All of this in addition to what amounts to a HUGE car collection that any car enthusiast would love to see. It looked like the Bogard's (proprietor's name) have been collecting antiques and memorabilia for years. And that is exactly what the owner, Kerry, indicated as he provided an extensive, interesting and thought provoking tour of the museum. Kerry takes you through the entire museum on the tour (which costs about $9 per person - well worth it), telling personal stories about all of the cars and even the memorabilia.

I am not a car freak, like my husband, so I truly could not tell you exactly which cars they have in stock but the owner indicated they change their inventory frequently. I will tell you there are some cars I would not mind having!! And, even when I croak, there is a car I wouldn't mind riding in - the most beautiful (never thought I would say that about a) vintage hearse I've ever see with intricately carved wooden sides, etc. Very cool. My husband fell in love with a 1966 Shelby Mustang 'Supercharged' GT-350 Don't miss the Mount Dora Museum of Speed!

Takes about one hour to tour the museum and spend some time perusing the gift shop.

The owner retired, sold the building and is in the process of selling his collection to private collectors. All the websites recommend it so I wanted to make sure there was at least one review that informed the public it is closed.

"MonsterMom" (jeanettey) This listing was left active as a courtesy to the folks who were trying to find us. Had you bothered to actually READ the Last 4 Reviews, they clearly note, after almost 20 years, it is indeed "Closed". Therefore, there was really no reason to post this negative,"1 Star " review... unless it was mean spirited in nature. The remaining Antiques and Automobilia are for sale ( by Appointment) to ANYONE interested. The hours are posted, and I am located just a few blocks from this address.
