Attended a play at this jewel of a place for the first time since the pandemic. Though the past plays I attended have been staged in the banquet hall (with a delicious catered dinner and an open bar), sitting in the auditorium was really nice. The building is old but precious, with original wood throughout. Though I had an enjoyable time, the only drawback was the sound. I am not sure of the types of microphones, etc., used. I heard most of the actors clearly, but a couple of the actors' voices were a bit muffled throughout the play. All in all, I am looking forward to attending more plays. And if/when I feel comfortable again being seated closely with other patrons at the same table, in a limited space while sharing a common meal, I will definitely do so - just not now. Though the auditorium is on the second floor and there are two flights of stairs, there is also an elevator available. Of note, for those who love quaint settings for performances, consider donating to MOH to help maintain the ambiance and structural features.

Main "opera house" is on second floor of this semi-antique building. Accessible by stairs and by tiny elevator. First floor offers space for more intimate shows - usually accompanied by catered fine dinner. Wide selection of entertainment throughout the year. Friendly atmosphere.

My wife and I had just dropped in on local B&B and were coming back from dinner and saw some activity at the Opera House. We poked our heads in and decided to catch the performance of "The Foreigner." The cast and restored historic layout made it thoroughly enjoyable evening. They had dinner downstairs before the show, but we missed that opportunity. We look forward to trying to catch a show the next time we are in the area.

The Monticello Opera House is a beautiful old building built in 1890, and has been a regional icon ever since. The dining hall on the first floor can be rented out for events, and dinner is provided by Carrie Ann and Co. before plays and concerts in the evening. The acoustics in the auditorium upstairs are incredible, and much of the space is as it was 120 years ago.

Friends and I were taking the walking tour - brochure provided by the Chamber of Commerce - and the Director of the Opera House noticed us and invited us in for a tour. How very nice and special! The downstairs was originally retail space - long ago - and the upstairs a theater for 300 guests. The building is on the National Register of Historic Places. Today the downstairs hosts dinners, catered events, mystery dinners, and the like. There is even a very attractive garden area off the main floor for weddings or other seasonal events. The upstairs is still a lovely theater venue with incredible acoustics, beautiful original chandeliers, and replacement seating that is comfortable. The original seats, of which one is on display, look torturous. A number of productions, some with dinners beforehand, occur throughout the year. I, for one plan to return for two early in 2015. It would certainly be wise to check out this venue for an interesting evening of music or theater in a captivating setting.

The Monticello Opera House is a beautiful venue that is celebrating their 125 year anniversary in 2015. Restored to it's original décor and it's magnificent acoustics makes this an evening to remember!

This is really surprisingly professional production for any community theater. The music is as amazing as the story! Try to see this!

The theater is beautiful. Acoustics are just fine. A little TLC is needed all around, but a beautiful venue, a piece of extraordinary architecture. The outdoor space appears quite lovely for an event, fundraiser, wedding or party, any time but July or August. Parking was not an issue. There is street parking and a city lot just across the street.

The production was good. Orchestra overpowered the singers and speakers during Act I, but hardly at all in Act II. Orchestra pit is higher than normal, so that may be the challenge. We thought of leaving but were glad we stayed for Act II. Actors were excellent and skilled, mostly experienced, quite attractive as a cast, but challenged by the volume of the orchestra. The dancing was beautifully choreographed and riveting to watch, a joy to see.

This venue offers a lot of entertainment, as well as education, so if you are interested, check it out. We will be returning.

If you are handicapped there is an elevator on the left side facing the stage. There are spaces near the elevator for wheelchairs.

There is a first floor space with a reasonably priced bar and ample space for people to chat and mingle.

Attended a dinner show at the Monticello Opera House (murder mystery) with my husband and my sister (not sure why the sort of visit indicated below only specifies families with young children and teens). We were seated at a table near the back. Though being up front doesn't help any more that sitting in the back as far as solving the murder, I would have liked to have had the option to choose my table. As far as I know, the tables are randomly assigned. I had trouble seeing a bit over the heads of other patrons, but I guess that comes with the territory in these sorts of venues. The food that was served during the dinner was good, though it would have been nice to have had some tea in addition to the water that came with the meal (which was catered by Carrie Ann and Co.). There was a bar available for folks who wanted alcoholic drinks and/or soft drinks. The folks seated at the table with us were not known to us, but were nice and we enjoyed our time with them. It was neat discussing our ideas on who we thought was the guilty party in the play. We had a great time; loved the audience participation. Kudos to MOH on doing a neat job with this. Will look forward to attending this type of show in the future...
