Fabulous dinner
Jun 2021
My husband and I were walking down Ocean Drive looking for a good place to have dinner and decided that the menu looked great. We were seating inside since it was raining and were able to enjoy the beautiful hotel lobby bar and restaurant. The atomsphere is outstanding and really had a strong Cuban vibe which we loved! We had cocktails (Mojito and cosmo) and an appetizer (a kind of plantain with fresh guacamole) served by the wonderful Shirley - fantastic waitress! She recommended some things from the menu and told us about some great sounding specials so it was difficult to choose just one thing. Our entrees were served and timed perfectly. I had a cuban dish that was a filet mignon with peppers over some sort of fried potato in a sauce that was flavorful and rich. My husband also had a beef dish that was served with black beans and rice - also very tasty. We were too full to have dessert! Our experience here was fantastic and we will be back the next time we are in Miami.

Stayed here and it was a superb place. Very lively and friendly with a great atmosphere. The bar had a great head guy - MATEO - who really looked after us and I recommend you go there to meet him !!

Great fun, food and place to hang out
May 2019 • Couples
We enjoyed this bar and restaurant so much we came back twice, even with all the other competition, this became our go to place during our brief stay in Miami Beach.

The live music on the patio and the well designed bar interior made us take pause and stop in to give it a try after our 3 mile walk down the boardwalk. We were not disappointed. The bartender, Matteo, was so fun and personable we stayed for hours enjoying this restaurant.

We had drinks, food and dessert. We really enjoyed the Italian food and style.

Walking along the strand of hotels, the area has naturally become a tourist trap. How do you know where to go? If you are looking for a genuine, non tourist trap experience, Hotel Cardozo is the place to go.

FYI-- It appears that this property has been rebranded under new ownership. Flags at the top of the property said "grand opening." Looking it up for this review, Gloria and Emilio Estefan are the owners-how cool is that?! We were unaware of this and not the reason for our stopping. It was a nicely decorated, inviting, place to stop. I believe the Estafan's nailed their vision of reenergizing this iconic property.

The Cardozo, now owned by Gloria and Emilio Estefan was first seen on screen in the Frank Sinatra film Hole in the Head with Edward G. Robinson. very popular spot among locals and tourists alike!

Hidden Fees!
Apr 2015 • Family
We ate lunch at the restaurant in April of 2015. The food was okay, but we didn't feel it was worth the price. We were surprised to find a $30 service fee on the bill. The waitress informed us the fee was for the kitchen staff and it didn't include her tip. According to her all the restaurants on Ocean Drive charge this fee. We ended up paying 36% in tips and fees for our meal. We will not return and will ask for the hidden fees up front next time we dine in Miami.

Better go somewhere else!
Nov 2014 • Friends
I was trapped by the huge "mojitos" I saw from the sidewalk on Ocean Drive! The place is a dreadful tourist trap! Service, meals and drinks are not worth the price they charge! I felt ripped-off after receiving the bill! You are warned: go somewhere else on Ocean Drive or nearby streets!

I was ripped off, paid twice for the same bill.

I'm from Brazil, but am studying in Florida and went there about a week ago. When the check came I handed the waiter my Travel Money card and a few minutes later she came with a slip that said declined. I did not notice the slip mentioned 'duplicate transaction', so I handed her another card and it went through. Later I found out that the previous 'declined' card was indeed charged, 30 seconds before the declined operation. What happened is clear: right after the first charge, a second one was tried intentionally, because it would certainly be declined, but it would generate the slip, so they could show me and then ask for another charge. I should have known better, but I thought the people I was dealing with were honest. I don't know if this kind of scam was done by the management or just the employee(s), but something should be done. I'm also gonna report the problem to Mastercard, as I have the copies of everything.

AVOID
Mar 2015 • Couples
Avoid at all costs our cab driver said only fools eat here and he was right the restaurant was half empty and I am not surprised the service was awful no care because they already include a 19% tip in the bill .

The food is passable but one of the waiters a young short person seemed to think he knew more about wine and food than we did and we have been around.

Service was appalling if you do go there make sure you choose the table you want not the one the the so called hostess wants you to have

Once they have you in that's the end of any semblance of service

Go to Joe Stone Crabs lovely ambiance served by professional waiters not morons who dance to the music which is far too loud

Good food, horrid service!
Part of any restaurant is far and above...at least decent service, this didn't have that. The bathroom was disgusting, sink broke. Our bill was 125.00 for three people for lunch! We should never had to pay a tip for such horrid service! Just don't waste your time here! If the hotel acts like the resturaunt, stay else where.
