North Shore Open Space Park was originally established in the 1950s when the city purchased and demolished a series of dilapidated villas on the site. It is one of Miami's largest parks, and it runs from 78th Street to 87th Terrace. Over the years, the 28 acre site was left to nature.
In 2017 the city approved a 6 million dollar renovation of the park with Calvin, Giordarno & Associates as the project manager and West 8 heading the re-design. The renovation strived to preserve the parks plants, including large palm trees and sea grapes and the parks natural dune ecosystem which protects the park from rising sea levels. The goal was to improve the beauty and functionality of the park.
Today you can enjoy enjoy beach access with lifeguards on duty and plenty of room to spread out as you soak up the sun. North Shore Open Space Park also has a outdoor showers, restroom, dog park, picnic tables and grills, sand volley ball court, three pavilions for picnics with grills which can be rented, swings and a play area, and trails with an outdoor fitness challenge course with self-powered workout stations. Parking can be found in the municipal lot across the street on 83rd street and along Harding Ave. I really enjoyed walking the trails in the the park and it is a lot quieter than nearby South Beach which you can reach via an paved 8 mile bike trail.

This particular Beach is about 6 mi North, of the world famous South Beach. Also, it feels like it's a world away from all the loud noise, overcrowding, raucous party nature that is now associated with South Beach. This particular Beach is located next to a city park, with parking spaces just west of that Park, with an average cost of about $3.50 for three hours. Which is significantly cheaper than what you'll pay down on South Beach. The most important think about this beach is that it is quiet, comfortable, with lots of space between you and the next guest on the beach. Unlike South Beach, you don't constantly have to look over your shoulder keeping an eye on your possessions, because it is so sparsely populated. It is easy to see when someone is coming in the direction of your personal belongings. There aren't any dogs roaming the beach, at least not that day. When I arrived there were literally only about eight people within my view, both left and right, on this beach.
Bottom line-if you want to see a lot of very attractive women in skimpy bikinis, then South Beach is your place. If you want a party atmosphere with bars nearby and lots of high-priced retail stuff, then South Beach is your place. But, if you want a quiet, serene, sparsely populated, clean, soft sand, great looking water, beach without the drama, then North shore open space Park, is where you should go!

Parking across the street was only $1 per hour compared to other lots closer to more popular beaches. From the lot to a spot on the beach near the water took less than 15 minutes.
Soft white sand, warm calm waters and a clean beach plus a lot less people made this an enjoyable place to relax.
Lifeguard stations were manned. Closer to the street were the volleyball courts and public restrooms (not the best condition or smells inside).
If one wants a quieter beach experience then I suggest the North Miami Beaches over mid or south.

Very clean and not crowded. My favourite part was the parking, it only cost $3.00 USD to park for an hour and it is right across the beach. More mature crowd, more relaxing and peaceful compared to South Beach.

The north shore park is on the northern side of Miami Beach island. If you got enough of South Beach hustle head here to have some relaxed beach time in peace.
We visited it when driving the shore road to Hollywood. It was great to find a parking right by the beach for a reasonable price.
The beach is much less crowded than south beach, and you feel you have it for yourself.

One of my favorite places to enjoy the water is North Shore beach in Miami. It’s not crowded and it’s a relaxing area to enjoy the day.

This was a wonderful surprise. We were heading to crowded Miami Beach and came across this gem. You can rent umbrellas for $20 and chairs for $10. $3 parking that was east to get in and out of. Excellent location.

If you, like me found the crowded chaos of Miami Beach a turn off, check out this beautiful public beach with ease of parking and restrooms. This may be more crowded on weekends but for week day travelers it was a welcome respite. Located just north of 79th St. there is a parking lot across the street within easy walking distance. The parking machines will get a an unlimited time for $8. We couldn't even find a way to get out of our car the previous day (Sunday). Thjis beach is one used by the locals.

Paid $350.00 to reserve a pavilion for a family gathering at the park. Arrived at the reserved pavilion only to discover it occupied by 5 homeless people. After explaining that we had reserved it, they reluctantly moved 15 feet to the next pavilion. As our younger members began to arrive they were introduced to the park by the cursing and fighting among the now 10 mentally ill homeless people in the next pavilion. During our barbecue the homeless sent a representative over to beg for food. About an hour later, two park maintenance men in a truck showed up. They warned us not to leave any valuables lying around because the homeless are known thieves. This made being close to the beach totally superfluous. It is obvious that those responsible for the park security have completely abdicated their responsibility for safety and security of legitimate users and renters. This is truly a horrible place to try and relax and enjoy the amenities.
