Art Basel
About
Since 1970, Art Basel's goal has been to connect the world's premier galleries and their patrons, as well serving as a meeting point for the international art world. Now, over forty years later, its three fairs - in Basel, Hong Kong and Miami Beach rank as the premier shows of their kind, presenting 20th and 21st century art with a strong curatorial perspective. In our American show, leading galleries from North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia and Africa show significant work from the masters of Modern and contemporary art, as well the new generation of emerging stars. Paintings, sculptures, installations, photographs, films, and editioned works of the highest quality are on display in the main exhibition hall. Ambitious large-scale artworks, films and performances become part of the city's outdoor landscape at nearby Collins Park and SoundScape Park.

My daughter, Crystal Brewe ( age 38) her husband, Eric Brewe, and 2 daughters have lived in Miami's art District (Design District) for around 5 yrs now. She invites me for regular visits about 3-4 times a year (from Scottsdale AZ). She has introduced me to many of Miami's quaint restaurants, introduces me to James Beard award winning chefs, shown me the awesome boutique hotels, as well as takes me to the Plays and concerts at The Adrienne Arsht Center. When she invited me 3 yrs ago to Miami's Art Basel, the first week in December, it totally blew me away. This is not just some art show! This is an Art, Food, Hotel, & People, exhibit on Steroids! The best week long event & party EVER! It takes place not only in the Convention Center but it is going on all over the huge city of Miami- In the streets, in the alleys, in the residential homes, and every single hotel imaginable. Forget driving- you must wear good shoes and be able to walk walk and walk some more. You do NOT have to drag your partner with you. This is a venue you can do alone! There is so much to see and so many artists to talk with. Some of the streets are lined with restaurants and the eating tables are almost on the streets, dressed in white linen table clothes and servers galore. You can't ever be hungry here. It is planned so well and the people are nice and friendly at this event! I have made it a 'MUST DO' now, very year. See you in December 2013 folks! Look me up- I would love to see you there..

There are a lot of art fairs in the world but I think that Art Basel in Miami Beach is the best one. The crowd is the international one with really incredible people coming annually from all over in the world. The art galleries are the most famous and international ones. The art is absolutely wonderful. You can look for Picasso or Dali as well as for young artist and new entries. But the best of this fair is that being in Florida in December, while in US or Europe is winter, in South Florida you can go to the beach in the morning, to the fair and related events all the day long and then you can have an incredible night of fine dining in hundreds fantastic places in town and then you can enjoy the metropolitan nightlife of Miami and Miami Beach till very late. Be prepared to a tour de force about the incredible amount of events, openings, cocktails and parties for the insiders from all over the world.

The art is everywhere even in the streets and the beach. The art you find is mind blowing and there is always new artists to explore. Go for as many exhibitions and galleries as you can

I never attended the Basel Art exhibition before. I decided to travel from Fort Lauderdale to Miami Convention Center by public transport. Yesterday, multiple times I tried to call to ask questions but no one picked up the phone even in Spanish language. Disaster! When by 6:00PM I was lucky to have someone answering the phone, I learned that only online sale tickets was possible. Then my nightmare started. I went online and found out multiple entrance locations were offered and very limited visit time frame left to choose from to. I never been before at that building and was not familiar with the building layoff. Do I work there?. Also, for senior discount, I had to attach my photo id and wait for confirmation for later to complete the transaction. Crazy. I visited thousands of museums in my entire life and never experienced such ordeal before and never encountered such aggravation. The Basel Art online site is not al all friendly. After entering all the necessary information, I received an email from the venue asking me to re order my ticket. Re-order again? Too much for such visit! I never received the email confirmation either online or later. It was a fiasco!
The purchase transaction is not completed instantly until the site does the authentic proof of the senior age. I was supposed to get an email which never arrived. The site wants to make sure that no one is paying less. What a strange and mediocre way to conduct business! No human cashier. Everything online with mediocre technology.
Immediately, I wrote my comments online and got an answer but no confirmation. The person who responded asked me to re order the ticket and but the visit time frame was much less than the first one. Consequently, I decided not to go, It was a waste of my time to think I could make it. Was easier to win the lottery.
I won’t recommend that art show unless you start booking earlier in the year. I am very disappointed and deceived to have lost the battle. Better to watch it on YouTube.

The times of the big parties at the big hotels such as the Delano, VIP Parties at Villa Versace and wild dance parties are over. Art Collectors do not come as they used to but stay closer to where they live. Ever since Sam Keller left the new management has tried successfully to kill the hype and install pure and hard business.

Art Basel- Miami was a force to be reckoned with!!! Now this venue , once the place for innovative, provacative art, socializing in this realm, has turned to a mad rush to see whatever you can, you meet no one, as that who is now in attendance, the parties, yawn! Where did it go wrong?!

Art Basel is really dope if you're into it and plan to commit to all their events. I love art so paying attention to the exhibitions was really important for me to decide where and what I wanted to do. Price also matters but they do host a few free events as well.

The great thing is Miami is HOT around this time so everyone is hosting something especially unofficial events that are bomb and worth going to, too.

The art was intriguing, no doubt, but what struck me was the amount of gold diggers there wearing provocative outfits looking for someone to spend money on them. Visit and you will know what I mean.
