Short version: We had a wonderful time, and if money isn't an issue, I highly recommend this! $80 per person felt a little steep for basically an hour-long lesson. I'm rating 4 stars instead of 5 due to cost and slight disorganization.
Long version: Pros: The description and guidelines for how to sign up, where to go, and what the class entails was spot on. I felt prepared and had a good idea of what to expect. Upon arrival, we checked in, and the instructor went over expectations again. The staff was very nice and friendly, and the service was incredible. We ordered chips and guac, which was delicious! The free mojito and empanada appetizer during the dance break were also tasty.
The wristband they give you allows you to stay or re-enter the club throughout the night, and it stays open until 5 am! I'm not sure what the value is, since we didn't stay after the lesson, but that might be a huge plus for some people.
Cons: You don't have to dance with multiple people, but for those who wanted to switch partners, the instructor didn't have a good system for helping people rotate. So, there was a little chaos every time she said to rotate partners, and some people ended up not really having anyone to dance with for a song or two.
It seemed like a lot of people struggled with learning the salsa step, but the instructor only explained the steps one way, and kept going fast while people were struggling. You're going to have that with any group activity, but it would have been helpful if she would have given more than one way to remember the step, or slowed down a little bit. None of the more experienced dancers seemed concerned about moving too slowly since we knew it was a beginner class. She did offer to assist one on one, but when she came by, she basically said to keep it up, even though he wasn't getting it.
Lastly, I would recommend looking for a coupon or discount if possible (we used Go City to bundle our activities). It was definitely a good time, just a little on the pricey side.
