Small museum spread over 2 floors. The second floor has some interesting temporary exhibitions in particular the Hernan Bas paintings. The group floor is less interesting. It’s fine for a quick visit if in the area but not worth going out of the way for.

After a scandal revealed that the John Bass Art Museum's collection "comprises the most flagrant and pervasive mislabeling by any museum known to the Art Dealers Association," the Miami Beach City Council closed the museum in 1973. In other words, the paintings weren't worth their appraisals. Enter art historian Diana Camber. In 1980, she was hired as Executive Director of the museum. For the next 30 years, she worked to professionalize the museum's operations. It obtained accreditation and underwent renovations and expansion. As part of a rebranding, the Bass removed "Museum of Art" from its name. After closing for construction in 2015, it reopened in 2017 at its 2100 Collins Avenue address under the leadership of Silvia Karman Cubina, who has served as Executive Director and Chief Curator since 2009. Today, the Bass incorporates its founding (and reappraised) collection into a schedule of international contemporary exhibitions. Its permanent collection includes European painting and sculpture from the 15th century to the present, 7th to 20th century textiles, tapestries and ecclesiastical vestments and artifacts, 20th and 21st century North American, Latin American, Asian and Caribbean art, photographs, prints and drawings and modern and contemporary architecture and design with emphasis on the pre- and post-World War II design history of Miami Beach. In 2017, the museum's Creativity Center opened as the largest art museum education facility in Miami-Dade County.

The museum is located in Collins Ave in South Beach where you have not only beautiful outdoors, but the opportunity to combine this visits with the beach, restaurants or simply exploring Miami Beach.
The Bass combines a multiple galleries and exhibitions with very exciting activities for the kids and family. They offer music, crafting, arts classes and different activities for the entire family on some specific days of the months; your kids will love them

We have visited the Bass multiple times and always enjoyed our visits. The current exhibitions run for a long time but lack focus or interest preferring to rely on nudity shock factors.

In my opinion this is unsuitable for children and, quite frankly, a little boring.

I hope the next exhibitions will be more to our taste and love of modern art.

We drove to the museum for 1.5 hours. We came with a small child. A child who is 2 weeks old is in a stroller, of course. if you take him out, he wakes up and cries. The museum staff asked to take the infant out of the stroller and carry it in your arms. Which is of course impossible. We had to turn around and leave... it’s a shame that the museum treats visitors with children this way... it turns out that if you have physical limitations, the museum does not welcome such clients. it's a pity. I do not recommend visiting the museum.

A visit to the Bass is a very nice respite from the dominant beach culture surrounding the park. While the exhibits are interesting, the docents are young, engaging, knowledgeable and pleasant. They made my visit much richer and worthwhile.

Small but well curated exhibits by contemporary artists. The space is easy to navigate. Miami and Miami Beach have a number of art museums bu they don’t have extensive exhibits. If I didn’t get in for half price a a senior, I would probably feel that I overpaid.

While this museum is rather small, the exhibitions on display when I went were quite quirky and fun - moreso than other contemporary art museums I've visited. I found it an enjoyable way to spend a half hour in Miami. Don't expect to spend more than a half hour here.

The Bass is housed in a former post office in Miami Beach - a beautiful building! Staff was nice and the space is lovely. The art, interesting but not as special as the building. Worth a visit, if you have time and the entrance fee.

Modern art museum. Small but with a fresh look and new exhibitions. Staff at the reception was friendly. I liked the Hernan Bas exhibition on the second floor. Best for adults. Not sure if all kids will enjoy it.
