An old house, historic in a beautiful location. Not sure it is worth the trip south unless you are a Deering fanatic.

We were expecting more than we got. First, our entrance was messed up. The have a sign saying ask about our discounts for seniors and military. Turns out that is only on Tuesdays. Next our credit card was refused and we found out later (after calling our card) that he put the zip code in wrong. Next, they do offer... More

Thank you for your feedback on your recent visit to Deering Estate. Visitors to the Deering Estate often find it surprising the differences between Charles’ environmentally conscious preserve and private homes to his younger half-brother James’ cosmopolitan villa at Vizcaya. We are working closely with Vizcaya to transfer a significant collection, original to the Deering Estate, back. With the addition... More

The entry fee is $12. The two houses sit on a gorgeous parcel overlooking the ocean. I started with a tour of the nature trail area and learned about some of the plants and the natural history of the area by a very knowledgeable guide. The tour included a visit to a Tequesta burial mound. Later I took the tour... More

Pluses It is a very beautiful and serene setting right on the ocean front. The two houses were rather interesting, if you really like history, and we saw three manatees directly in front of the estate. Minuses We pulled in the parking lot and immediately headed for the signed "Visitor Center," only to be told by an employee that this... More

This is a nice place to go and spend half a day while walking the grounds, picnicking or taking the house tour. Also available kayak tours, nature tours. Concerts and other performances are held at the facility throughout the year. If you're going to walk, don't forget comfy shoes and bug repellent. Check the weather before going and don't risk... Nice place to visit. Mr. Deering was an avid art collector, even though very few art displays are available the way he had the house made is an at testament to his love for art. If you can do a photography package to take shots of the sunrise I'd highly recommend you to do so. Once you pay for the... More

Deering Estate is part of the Blue Star program which offers discounted or free entrance to military veterans. We live nearby and love to go for family walks around the grounds and in the homes. The staff is always friendly and welcoming.
