The Miami Design District is a neighborhood dedicated to innovative fashion, design, architecture and dining experiences. The vision for a rejuvenated Design District was codified in an urban master plan developed by the award-winning master planners Duany Plater-Zyberk, with the additional participation of architects including Walter Chatham, Hariri and Hariri, Juan Lezcano, Terence Riley, and Alison Spear. I came here mostly to see some unique pieces of art which happened to be scattered throughout the area. They ran the gamut of building designs, stand alone art pieces, rooftop and inside stores or building lobbies. I had to rush since I did not put enough time on the parking meter.
High fashion and expensive stores also were found here in between art works, galleries and restaurants.
It was a nice place to walk around but also popular for photo shoots with two different modeling sessions going on.

Along with Upper Buena Vista just north of it, the Miami Design District dates back to the 1890's when it was a small village, home to cracker's who migrated from Georgia and North Carolina to farm pineapples in Florida. Along with Lemon City and Little River, Upper Buena Vista and the Miami Design District are the oldest settlements in Miami. Many of the homes here date to Florida's land bloom years of the 1920's when the first subdivisions were built.
Twenty years ago Miami native Craig Robins recognized the potential of this part of Miami and he started purchasing buildings in the neighborhood for the purpose of creating a place with exceptional architecture, design and experiences. L Catterton joined Robins as a partner in 2011 and encouraged luxury brands to move into the Design District. Today there are more than 120 flagship luxury stores in the district along with restaurants, public art, event spaces, museums, and galleries.
There are four parking garages in the design district. I \have only used the Museum Garage and it is only $3 to park. There is also some limited street parking. I love to come here to nosh, window shop, take pictures, and see free art. It is also a pretty awesome place to people watch. If you are looking for something different to do in Miami, the Design District is full of fun surprises. My family and I were in Miami for a few days and my teenage daughters wanted to go to the Design District. It’s basically an outdoor shopping area with high end brands that the average person isn’t going to be able to afford. I found an awesome pair of matching Vacheron Constantin watches for my wife and I but I just couldn’t spend $36,000 that weekend, maybe next weekend I’ll be in the mood to purchase them. There are beautiful cars driving around this area and the people/window shopping is great. It’s interesting to see who is dropping $5k likes it’s a $5 value meal at McDonalds. I’m glad my kids wanted to see this place, we had a good time just walking around. Of course the kids had to find their instagram spots...

Generally a nice open-air mall populated by high-end brand stores, with a good mix of excellent restaurants. But your overall experience can vary based on a number of factors. Store hours are not uniform, so call ahead. It's mainly top brands, with very few custom boutiques except for galleries. Of course its exposed to the elements. Parking can be a hassle at peak times so allow for extra time. The escalators are rarely all working. Security can be an issue, especially after dark when the neighbors come out to play.

This place isn't just dedicated to arts but the design, fashion, and architecture while infusing the food. Spent a little over three hours here and definitely a must if you're into the funky city modern life with a twist into contemporary designs in clothes and buildings. Food may be pricey but you're going to be paying for the ambience and for once in a life, it's worth it!

What a fun way to spend an hour or two, especially if you appreciate architecture. Shopping is for the rich, but window shopping is for everyone. The stores themselves are minimalists in nature with scant offerings within large square footage. The indoor parking garage’s exterior is the most whimsical design in the district, and the Tesla dealership is worth visiting.

For the street art, people watching, excellent cafe's and shaded spots to sit and relax, this area of Miami gets top marks from me. 5 Stars! Love the vibe here...it is fun and creative and youthful. Excellent young crowds hang here, along with serious shoppers, gaga tourists, amusing self absorbed selfie-taking stepford types, wannabes, and some other fun and seriously interesting people to watch. Endless amusements abound. Bloody good window displays, and the architecture is stunning. The new parking garage? Fantastic. KUDOS to the architects designers and landlords that have made this happen.

The Miami Design District is a dining, architectural, and artistic experience all rolled into one. Here you can marvel at the magnificent exteriors and interiors of the designer stores, watch lithesome models dressed to the nines parade by, and have a delicious meal. Expect to spend a few fun hours. There’s enough to do and see here not to rush.

The area is pleasant and it has a lot of stores around, plus the architecture is very modern, combining geometry with green areas. You can easily go around for a couple of hours, and there are plenty of cafeterias and restaurants where you can choose what to eat. Some of the restaurants get full very quick, so make sure to have an idea which one to pick if you do not feel like waiting too much

went to the design district since we got recommend to go and it would be a nice experience. Can truly say it is a nice experience lot's of high end shops and lots of art bars and restaurants. It is a big area and easy to get lost and if asked for directions not always find friendly and helpful people. It is more a place to be judged than feel comfortable. Overall I prefer other options.

Absolutely. I think shopping is the best solo:) no one is nagging you to hurry up. Also the bars and restaurants around are perfect to stop by get a glass of wine and check the balance on your credit card. Enjoy

I don’t think there is much to do at night here. It’s basically a street with high end retail. But you can go close to there. Midtown has a lot of cool solo spots as does Brickell. Both are very close to the design district.
Do they have entry charges? If yes, how much is it?

No entrance fee. There is a parking garage available within the district. Don’t fall for the expensive off site parking that is totally not needed.
