I stumbled across the monument while looking for the Bay of Pigs museum (which is about 10 minutes away). It’s a great tribute to those who lost their lives and especially poignant given it’s location in the Little Havana district of Miami. It’s about a minutes walk from the Bus Tour stop on 8th Street

The Bay of Pigs Monument is located at the northern end of the Cuban Memorial Boulevard Park oat the intersection of SW 8th Street and SW 13th Avenue. It is probably the most recognisable of the many monuments in Little Havana. The monument is dedicated to the fallen of Brigade 2506 and was installed on the 10th anniversary of the invasion. The monument is black tiled and surrounded by two perimeter chains to restrict access. The chains closer to the monument were joined by six ammunition shells which we assumed were from the M41 tanks used in the invasion. The Hexagon shaped monument has gold writing and symbols of the 2506 Brigade and the date of the invasion i.e. 17 April 1961.
On five sides of the monument, are plaques that list the fallen. At the top of the plaques, "Martyrs of Playa Girón" is stated. The most impressive section of the monument is the silver urn at the top which has an eternal flame burning. President Eisenhower had provided funds for the training and equipping of Brigade 2506, with the intention of overthrowing Fidel Castro's government in Cuba. This included eight B-26 bombers which were used to bomb Santiago and Havana. Quite a few Navy destroyers waited offshore the island during the invasion. After three days of fighting, Brigade 2506 was defeated with over 1,000 troops captured.
In the months that followed, the political intrigue of denials and prisoner negotiations was a daily feature, but ended in the prisoners being sent back to Miami in exchange for US$53m in food and medicinal supplies. Most of the Brigade returned to this area which became known as Little Havana. This was a pivotal moment in history, as after the failed invasion, the Cuban Government embraced the Soviet regime, and this led to the "Cuban Missile crisis" the following year which was one of the highest points of the cold war. A short walk south of this monument , is a sculpture of Nestor Izquierdo, who was a senior figure in the brigade. The Bay of Pigs Museum and Library is a short walk east to 1821 SW 9th Street, and provides additional information on the conflict.

This is a historical site in the middle of a neighborhood. Be aware that parking is hard to find and both road are one way streets. Finally, be on the look out for wild chickens and rosters running around the site. You might look at doing some reading of the event before you get to the site.

If you are in Little Havana, don´t miss this monument. Very important moment in Cuban history. I heard the monument is going to be redone soon. But, it is very interesting.

This monument doesn't explain everything, but the solemn artwork helps us understand why there is a Little Havana in Miami. If you take a tour, the guide will help put this monument into perspective, and how the Cuban experience and their ability to thrive in the States is such an impactful and impressive story.

This is a little area off of Calle Ocho which includes three monuments.
These three monuments memorialize and recognize those killed and those who survived this particular battle/invasion.
Many Cuban exiles, as well as the American government, opposed Castro's way of running things so they tried to end it.
The exiles were trained under Eisenhower's presidency, by the CIA , but ultimately failed their mission and many died.
Just Google Bay of Pigs if you want to know more history, is there are many different articles, some with different information you didn't know otherwise.
One is a I think bronze monument of a soldier, one is of an eternal flame, and the other is of a soldier with his rifle raised.
Be sure to check out this spot when you're in the area to ponder on all the lives affected.

Simple monument, but so important to the history of the US / Cuban relationship at the time. In the heart of Little Havana, and it is definitely a must see.

The Bay of Pigs Memorial Monument commemorates approximately 100 Volunteer Cuban Opposition soldiers field trained by the CIA throughout Central America and 3 US pilots who perished. The battle x was planned and organized in this part of Miami. The poorly planned invasion failed after 3 days, and it’s memorialized every April 17th by U.S. Army Brigade 2506 Veterans who survived and vowed to NEVER forget those who perished at Playa Girón, the beach where the mártires were lost, in the Bay area. Annually, surviving members gather to sing the U.S. Anthem and the Cuban Anthem as well. Lastly, the monuments were designed by a World Renowned Cuban Sculptor, Tony Lopez, who is also known for his bronze masterpiece in front of the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Miami Beach. Today, supporters often gather in front of the monument to bring attention to the atrocious crimes which continue to afflict the Cuban people, particularly journalists, as well as Venezuelan and Nicaraguan, who’ve also been victimized by the Castro Regimes support and crimes in their homelands. The Torch of Freedom at the top of the monument is ALWAYS lit to remind everyone passing by of the lives lost fighting for freedom in the past, which continues to suppress people on the island, and in South and Central America, as well.
