Zoo Miami (also known as The Miami-Dade Zoological Park and Gardens) is the largest and oldest zoological garden in Florida, and the only sub-tropical zoo in the continental United States. The unique climate in South Florida allows us to keep a wide variety of animals from Asia, Australia and Africa, representing a broad mix of species that is unlike any other zoo in the country. Zoo Miami today occupies almost 750 acres, and is home to more than 3,000 animals representing over 500 different species. Of this population, more than 40 species are classified as endangered. The zoo also houses more than 1,000 species of trees, palms and other plants, and over 100 special exhibits showcasing a broad number of species and scientific topics. We are accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) which means we have passed a rigorous application and inspection process and meet or exceed the AZA's standards for animal health and welfare, fundraising, zoo staffing, and involvement in global conservation efforts. Zoo Miami is proud to be an active leader in many global wildlife and environmental conservation initiatives, and we are currently involved in over 36 projects taking place on six continents.

The Miami Zoo is a huge place. The location and surrounding area was beautiful. I like that it was surrounded by trees and plants. The grounds were well maintained and clean. The place is so big that they rent you bikes that can fit multiple...More

Overall the zoo was great. There was a lot of different things to see as well as many different animals. One thing that they could change is how pricey it is! It was expensive to get in and if you wanted to purchase anything inside...More

It's like this: you pay to get in. This pretty much covers the 2-3 hour walk and looking at the animals from various distances. Then you need 3,50 to pet the Rhino, money for the monorail - well, it wasn't actually functioning, 5 bucks to...More

I hadn't been to this zoo in at least 10 years & I'm sorry to say it's not as good as it used to be. While it does have some fun areas for kids it seems old & dated. I usually LOVE the zoo--any zoo....More

We loved visiting the Miami Zoo. It had everything you could wish for to make it a perfect family vacation day, the animal exhibits were very nice, open, and well kept. The splash pad was the favorite thing for our kids. They also have a...More

Visited on a Sunday afternoon. The zoo was busy, but there is plenty of room for everyone. The exhibits are designed so a lot of people can see into them at one time. The animals looked healthy, their spaces seemed large enough for their size...More

This zoo is one of the best I have seen. It can be many places at once, since it has different activities for children and hidden spots for adults. I have exercised, taken my child, photographed, and yet, all these times it seems like a...More

Hi there. We plan on walking the entire park slowly, so when entering the park when it owns at 10am should we go left or right? I assume it would better to go in the direction of better and more active animals while the heat and sunshine are not out at full force? And secondly, is the tram worth doing after we do the entire walk of the zoo? Thanks.

Go right. That's the way we usually go to see the tigers and lions early.
Can anyone advise me on their experience with the food provided by the on-site catering for a party? Did you like the food provided?

We do not offer camel rides anymore. But you can feed them, as well as our giraffes.
