Our homeschool group got the chance to visit this historical gem of Florida today. We ranged in age from toddlers to middle schoolers and all of them were engaged by our three wonderful docents, Mr. Daly, Ms. Ambrose, and Ms. Farrington. These three guides were highly knowledgeable about the home and the family that resided there and went above and beyond to answer our questions and curiosities. The kids loved playing the “old school” games from that time and making soap and touring the home. We were even treated by Mr. Daly who showed us the intricacies of the Player Piano even after our tour and activities were over! It was very memorable and has been one of my favorite places we have visited thus far. A big thank you to our guides today!

What a beautiful, historic home on the Indian River. Neglected for years, it’s now being saved by a group of dedicated volunteers. You can visit every Saturday and learn about the home and family and learn about the impact they had in Melbourne. Numerous events are featured throughout the year and the home is a wonderful venue for indoor and outdoor events.
The only historic living museum in this area. Great for people of all ages.
Knowledgeable guides who transport you back in time.
Do not miss this home and please tell your friends to come for a visit to the beautiful Green Gables!

Great trip for children and adults which included knowledgeable staff. The children enjoyed making soap and playing games from over a hundred years ago. The home contains many original and period pieces. The grounds are located on the Indian River Lagoon and the natural landscaping enhances the experience.

Touring historic Green Gables is a real treat and a wonderful way to understand the history of the city of Melbourne. Our group was all ages and we all enjoyed the tour of the house as well as the views and breeze from the property. The house was decorated for the holidays and the docents were all in period costumes which made the tour even more charming. Our guide walked us through the house as if we were visitors at that time. It's a living museum. Highly Recommend!

We were given a personal tour of Green Gables by Mrs Wells, herself. Volunteer, Ann, was dressed in a lovely dress and hat. She told us about the house and it’s growth of additions into the old charming house. It was the first house to have indoor bathrooms in Melbourne and large closets in rooms. Totally amazing. The old lady exudes charm and you can feel the life in her. I can’t wait to see her restored. You can see the love and hard work the volunteers are putting into Green Gables. This is a must see here in Melbourne.

Very informative. Great place to learn some of Melbourne's early history.
Ran by volunteers who are dedicated and knowledgeable and very pleasant to be around.
Remember, it gets hot in Florida and old homes had no air conditioning so unless there is a bit of a breeze you will sweat and might find being indoors a bit unbearable. You can still enjoy the grounds and the house, but if being too hot is unhealthy for you personally, make sure you are hydrated and know your limits.

The home has just recently been saved by the preservation society and its being lovingly preserved. Our guide gave us a wonderful private tour with lots of information about Melbourne, the home and the family that built the home. I would recommend people go see this home and support this effort!

This was such a fun experience for a group of cub scouts. From making soap to learning about sewing machines and player pianos, the group of kids really had a great time. They were even talking about wanting to come back and learn some more.

Today our homeschool group took a very informative guided tour of the Green Gables Historical Home. We split up into 3 small groups and there were 3 wonderful guides. The children learned to play games that children played over 100 years ago. We got to listen to the victrola, tour the upstairs rooms, the kitchen and family dining rooms. The kids learned and made hand soaps from goats milk, as well as hands on with kitchen utensils used 100 yrs ago.
We learned about the importance restoration project and are happy to support such a great cause! This is a beautiful landmark of Brevard County. I cant wait to see the restoration! Thank you Green Gables staff for all your hard work and dedication. We really enjoyed this trip. My kids did not want to go home.
