On the way there, Google Maps and Waze will say “You have arrived.” And you will see a sign for the conservation area. So you keep driving looking for a parking lot. But you will realize that you have gone too far, so you will head back. On the way back, you will see the back of the sign with an arrow pointing across the street. There is a sign on that “street” that says “Private Road” but that is the road to get to the parking area. This road is more for SUVs or off road vehicles. Trust me.
At the “end” is a little clearing that is good for maybe 10 vehicles. Then you make your way down to the gorge. You can picnic and have a dip on the waters before the gorge. I suggest going on a dry day in the summer time as I have heard the rocks could get slippery.
In retrospect I wish I had taken pics of the signs had I thought of writing this review then.
Overall, a fun trip and beautiful hidden gem.

You must adventure here just near glen alda, coe hill and Apsley as its a bitof hike thou down to the ravine. Wear a good pair of shoes and respect the area for the memeries it holds. The eatery in Glen alda called bordertown is a must eatery on your way there. it was a shell gas station turn into a family friendly eatery.

This is a really lovely hike in the woods by Coe Hill. The Gut is a fantastic river cut in the rocks. The hike was manageable and very pretty. We took a picnic but the bugs were too much to stop and enjoy it. The road in was a bit washed out.

The gut is neat to see, but it was not what I expected. I was actually really disappointed. There is not much of walking, it's like a 5 min walk in from the parking lot. Witch I might add you can't drive right up to because the road is washed out. Need a 4x4 to get up to the parking area. It's about a 10 min walk from where u can't drive in with a car, to get to the parking lot. The road in is not maintained very well. Drive slow. Also the location did not come up on my gps, hard to find, not well marked. Definitely off the beaten path. It is easy walking. There is so much more in Ontario to see, that is much better. But that could be my reason for my disappointment, as I've seen lots of amazing sights, from my travels in Ontario. Unfortunately this is not one of them 👎🏻👎🏻

Just west of Coe Hill Ontario is the Gut Conservation Area. A bit of a hike on a trail through the forest leads to a wide shallow river that becomes compressed at an elbow in the geology and becomes a fantastic rushing gorge displaying the incredible power of nature's forces at work in shaping the granite. The hike back to the parking lot is a challenge if you're not fit. Take your time. It's worth it.

We visited The Gut Conservation Area in late October. The scenery is beautiful with the leaves changing colour, the water rushing over the rocks, and the best thing - no bugs!

We had directions to The Gut but because it's not very well signed (the sign is undistinguishable from the trees surrounding it - black letters on a dark brown board with a dark red arrow pointing to the access road), we drove right by it and went all the way along Lasswade Road to the 46! oops. Turned around, went back again, and this time the sign facing us had black letters on a white background so we saw it but there was no arrow to indicate where the Conservation Area was. The first time we went by there had been a truck with a couple of hunters in what we thought was a private road but they were gone when we went back and we figured that that was the road we needed to take, so we did, and it was.

When we went the access road was a 1 km very rough drive with washboarding, rutting, deep potholes, erosion, and large rocks jutting up from the surface which could damage tires. We were in an SUV and we went very slowly, very carefully, and were really happy to see the parking lot at the end.

It's a pleasant walk from the parking lot, and there are steps in the hillside to get down to the gorge but the going is very steep. It's alright for anyone of average fitness but it would be a challenge for anyone who has difficulty walking or climbing.

There is a wooden rail safety fence along the edge of the gorge which opens onto the rocks at the water's edge above the waterfall. It's a beautiful place but common sense is required. There was a sign posted there to let visitors know that ticks in the area have been found to carry Lyme disease. I wouldn't recommend The Gut for parents with small children as the edge of the gorge is steep, the cut is very deep and the waterfall is ferocious.

For the rest of us, it's an amazing place and worth a visit. The colours of the fall leaves, the sound of the water rushing over the falls, and the sweet clean air were lovely! We took lots of pictures.

I love this area --it is amazing scenery with the rock cuts and the powerful raging water. A lot of photo opportunities. The road in is narrow but absolutely passable in a car ...just drive slow .

This is a very interesting place to visit. We've been many times over the years. The water volume being squeezed through this narrow opening in the rock (The Gut) is quite impressive in the early spring.

If the driveway off the road is rough (early spring) you can park on the road and walk to the parking lot in about 10-15 minutes. Then the trail from the parking lot to The Gut is about half a kilometer. There is a short trail along the Gut, for viewing. Other than that, we have never found any trails of a decent length there. It would be a nice place to hike (and by hike, I mean 3k and up) but it's bushwhacking, if you do want to hike any distance. But still worthy to check out.

Got taken here on a whim... I could spend days here, most of the interest lies around the number of small falls/rapids and the deep cut gorge. I'me heading back with a small group of photography friends this year

We had a great day at the GUT.

It is not the easiest place to find the first time. There is a road that leads up to a parking area. The parking area is about 1 km after the entrance sign. It is rough.

It is no problem for a 4 x 4 but if you are in a car it can be a little rough. We decided to leave our car parked down by the sign and hike up to the parking area. That said, there were other 2 other cars that made it up with no problems.

Once there it is a fairly easy hike down to the river and falls. We had perfect weather and so our couple of hours there was very pleasant. Love it!
