[Note: TA asks"who was with you?" and gives 6 choices - none of them fit. I am a 76-year-old woman traveling with my adult daughters. I answered "Friends"] We had a great time with Francie, touring along part of the Cabot Trail on northern Cape Breton Island. As we took the little car ferry across St Ann’s Bay and stopped for tasty pastries and tea at the “Clucking Hen,” she told us about the Cabot Trail and about Nova Scotia and its Scottish roots. We climbed (and later descended) a steep and twisty road to the Ingonish area, where we explored the beach and the Celtic Lodge and briefly entered Cape Breton Highlands National Park. We learned about “ceilidhs” and other cultural celebrations where the descendants of Celtic, Acadian and indigenous peoples preserve their culture and celebrate each other’s. We visited the campus of the only Gaelic College in North America, and finished our tour with a drive through the very modern community of Membertou, a First Nation Mi’kmaq community located in Sydney. Francie was everything you’d want your tour guide to be – easy-going, knowledgeable, flexible. It was a great tour!

This time last year was the first time I got to experience the true beauty of the Cape Breton fall colours, and I have only Blackwood tours to thank! We were picked up at the port and met personally by Robert the owner. He was not only incredibly nice, and respectful but also very knowledgeable about local history. If not for COVID I definitely would have been back this year and I definitely recommend to anyone who has not already taken a tour!

This tour was well put together and had some interesting stops- the small ferry, a last minute hat shop Elton John visited, beautiful scenery. We were underwhelmed with the Keltic Lodge. A bit disappointing. The day we went was foggy for the first part and little sun so the Cabot Trail was not as beautiful as expected. Our tour guide, Gaston, did a good job of telling us about the history of the area and threw in some personal stories that we enjoyed. If I had to do it over again, I might have chosen a different tour- not company or tour driver- they were great- but a tour to a different location.

A group of us arrived in Sydney on a cruise ship in early October. We had booked the Highland Village, Baddeck & Bell Museum tour with this highly rated company. We really enjoyed the beautiful Bras d'Or/Cape Breton countryside. The Alexander Graham Bell Museum was very well laid out and educational. Had a very nice lunch in Baddeck which is a charming little place. That being said our guide tried to discourage us from visiting the Highland Village. The weather was overcast and he claimed the paths would be muddy and slippery. We insisted that we stop there and he reluctantly did. The paths were mostly gravel so there was no problem walking around. We didn't have enough time there but at least got a feeling for the place We also didn't get to stop at the Christmas Island post office which was disappointing. We got the feeling our guide just wanted to get us back to the ship. Before writing this I read some of the other reviews so think this was just an off day for the company. All in all we enjoyed the day and will certainly return to the area in the future.
