I am a beginner golfer so this was way too much course for me. It’s beautiful with lots of water. Unfortunately it was cartpath only. I recommend this course for experienced golfers only. Had a bloody Mary on the course. Had to be one of the worst bloody Mary mixes I’ve ever had. Still a great day and wish I was a good enough golfer to play there often.

Let's start off with the exceptional Clubhouse and staff vibe. Great job behind the bar and keeping up with our groups. The course was definitely target golf tough. Not playing it before it was easy to run out of fairway, etc. so throttle back if in doubt. The greens could use some improvements, and often times it seemed a few holes had different types of grass. The driving range was unique and not really the visual all of us want (hits into the water). LOL Overall fun time for our outing.

Cheval is a semi-private golf course which, if you look for on-line specials, has reasonable greens fees. This is a 'tight', lovely course, which requires you to leave the driver in the bag on several holes. A word of caution: do not play after a rain storm, as the course does not drain well. Friendly staff, and a nice bar/restaurant.

We signed up for a month-long children's camp. Due to covid, Cheval decided not to hold the camp (reasonable) but to unilaterally substitute a short lesson on each of the weekdays. Not only were we not interested, but we could not accommodate a trip to the club at midday each day, wait during the 45-minute lesson and then leave. We requested a refund. Cheval refused citing a "no refund" policy.

I rate the course as average only because I don't have the option or rating the course as GOOD which it is. It's not very good but good enough to consider playing again the next time I am in town. The course is next door to TPC so it's easy to find. Water is on 17 holes but I only found the Aqua a few times. It's a good track and I look forward to playing it when it isn't so wet. (It poured the night before I played it). They have a great GPS system on the golf carts that is touch sensitive so you can get yardage to any point on each hole. Makes me wonder why every golf course doesn't do the same. Very good layout with good risk reward situations. Try it and you'll like it

Firstly, we will say the Clubhouse service, food and atmosphere was EXCEPTIONAL, after a bit of a frustrating course. Yes, Cheval is a tough course, but it definitely made it tougher by a scorecard that did not match the course (we did figure it out that the back nine was the number one tee, but was not informed by the pro shop or the starter). And to make things a little tougher, there was no available course map!! And on two holes, where you had to drive up the road to the next tee box (we think it was hole 6 to 7 and hole 14 to 15, there was absolutely NO signage where to go!!!! For the members there, this is not a big deal, but for us out of towners, it certainly adds a bit of frustration to ones game!!!

The clubhouse was the location for several events that I've attended and as a venue for a smaller gathering it is very nice. Not great for larger gatherings as it gets that crowded feeling fast. The building and surrounding grounds are very well maintained.

I played Cheval over the past 12 years - The course is in great condition and the greens are awesome. They are very quick and true.

In another review, I mentioned a course that was one of my two favorites in the Tampa area. Cheval is the other one and is the best. It is tough, but fair. Expect a lot of water and sand, but also expect good routing options. There are 5 tee choices plus a very forward junior tee box. The fairways are consistently nice, though are typically Florida-tight. The greens are impeccable with a true roll every time. The electric carts include a GPS. The clubhouse and grounds are beautiful. There is a driving range with excellent practice facilities. Staff are friendly professionals that keep everything moving. Everything about this golf course includes its own touch of excellence.

I cannot believe the great improvements that Larry King is making to the golf course and the Athletic Club. SO much better than it was. If you haven't been by for a round of golf, some tennis, or dinner at Prime 19, I recommend that you do so. This place is improving very quickly....
