Went with the kids (aged 10 and 12) foe a fab experience: guided underground tour by bike, some 2 hrs od cycling and some walking at mid-point stops. Surreal experience but hugely entertaining for the kids.

The kayaking tour in the mines was probably the highlight of my trip to Slovenia. It was very well organized and great fun. First going down the mines with the small train in the dark. Then preparing for the kayaking (good equipment). The kayaking was really great. We were allowed to explore the mines all by ourselves for an hour. No need to be afraid to get lost, its not that big. After that the tour continued with walking through the old mines with interesting information. And ending with a miners lunch. We were the only english-speaking people in the tour, all the others were Slovenian, but that was not a problem at all. The tourguide always made sure to inform us as well. All in all, definetly recommendable and worthwhile taking a detour to Mezica!

I visited many different mines museums and this experience is very special. Mine itself is very authentic they did not change a lot after closing the mine. Kayaking was superb adventure, small group, very informative guide, we even had free time to kayaking and exploring by ourselves. After they served us delicious breakfast/brunch.

When you tell people you are going 3 km in and 800m down to kayak in flooded mine shafts in total darkness except for head torches, they think you are totally bonkers. When you then add that you enter the mine in a tiny sealed wooden carriage about 4ft high with no windows, which hurtles along like entering Gringotts bank in a Harry Potter movie and then you climb down tiny rickety metal steps down an endless mine shaft having dressed in waders to enter the water at the bottom, then even you think you must have lost it! Pushing yourself in your canoe along tunnels where sometimes you have to lie back because there is little headroom is unbelievably awesome. Total darkness apart from head torches, total silence apart from drips, echoes and rushes of water rapids, you have to stop thinking about where you actually are as it does your head no good and just go with the flow (pardon the pun) and absorb the experience. It is unique and glorious and exhilarating, but not for the faint hearted. Coming up after the kayaking you walk up through the layers of mine tunnels themselves before climbing back on board the minature “cattle truck”. You truely appreciate what a horrendous job this must have been when the mine was open. Life expectancy of mid 30’s says it all. This was an absolute highlight of our trip.

We wisited this location as part of a work trip, and the experience is incredible. Up top you suit up with protective clothing and helmet, you get your lamp and off you go to the small train, which in the older days used to take the men to and from the mine. The drive is interestig - enclosed in a small, unsprung cart, 7 people with you, you feel every bump and turn in the track. It feels like you are doing 50 - while in reality you are doing 8 - snaking deep into the Peca mountain. The tour is easy for most people, and you get a feeling of resepct for the people who worked these shafts (1000km all combined!!!). An ex miner explains the procedures, the history of the mine and the reasons for its closure. And you are avestruck with the amount of manual labour that was put into this place. All in all an incredifle experience, and a must see if you are in this region. Groups are invited to book in advance, others have to be there by 11- you join any people also waiting there..
