I just had my 2020 Yamaha 300hp engine and boat serviced at Cannons last week. It was one of the best service experiences I have ever had, especially with marine dealerships. The service manager, Levi, was very attentive, gave me an estimate as to when the boat would be ready and then was sure to complete it when promised. I received total costs up front as well as an estimation of what some unknown issues might cost. The final price was exactly what was quoted including parts and labor. No surprises!
We have been working with Cannons for over a year and have found that they are a first class organization. This can only start at the top, so kudos to management and the owners.

Really enjoyed our boat rental experience with the Cannons. Helpful staff who did a great job of giving us first timers to Longboat the lay of the land. I’m not sure on names but I think Jim and Tati or Tami (front desk) were out of this world with their customer service and even helped us get a ride home when there was no help on the island including our hotel to do so! Great boat, easy to navigate and all around awesome experience.

rented a boat for a day trip with family and friends and couldn't be more pleased with the service. very helpful staff gave great recommendations. boat was well maintained. price was very reasonable. really enjoyed it, thanks cannons marina

I just want people to be aware of the gas scam they are doing here. We have been renting from Cannons for years and last year they did this gas scam but I didn’t think anything of it bc it was the first time it happened thinking it was an Innocent mistake. Over charging for gas. So today we went out, came back , went to only jewfish and back. With a mostly no wake drive. Anyway we had another renter from cannons right next to us at jewfish , they left at one point and came back later & got same spot next to us. We head in at their 4:30 time. Do the gas and I’m told we had 7 gallons , mind you we only went to jewfish and back , never left, just stayed there the whole time. But the guy that was next to us at jewfish left and came back to jewfish had 3.59 gallons with the same boat. Hmmmmm and we had 7 gallons ? Yea weird right, my husband was taking notes on the guy pumping and clicking he said it was like he was trying to over fill bc once it clicks gas is saying it’s filled well he keeps clicking and trying to get more gas in there. My husband was like whoa buddy I think it’s good. Then saw he said 7 gallons but the guy next to us 3.59 gallons and again drove around & left jewfish but we didn’t. We are boat owners so we know. Thank goodness my husband said something bc it’s sneaky shady and flat out not right. Just bc we are from another state they think we are dumb and don’t know. We are home owners down here also own a boat from our primary residence but rent when we visit. We’ll that will be last I rent from

It should have been $10. Thank god we had the guy renter who was charged 3.59 who drove more pay less and that was our proof on top of my husbands knowledge of boats.

Hello, "527makeupb". Thank you for your feedback. We are very sorry to know you didn't have a fully pleasant experience while renting a boat from us.
It is part of our check-in procedure to have the customer to check the boat, which includes the fuel on the boat. Fuel gauge should show full tank at departure, and what we refuel the boat at check out and charge for the difference. Does that make sense to you? The way fuel level is measure inside the tank of a boat is by using a fuel sender. Fuel senders have a rheostat that provides a resistance to ground. As the fuel arm moves from the empty to the full position a contact is moved across the board on the rheostat which varies the resistance seen by the fuel gauge. We fully depend on the part functioning, which can report false reading if it is not operating properly. Our rentals personnel are not trained in mechanics, as you may understand.
You mentioned you have rented from us in the past for years. As many other reputable businesses in this country, our business model is not based on ripping customers off. Cannons Marina has been open for business for many decades and that proves we offer reliable, trustworthy and honest service. We sincerely hope to see you back in the future.

Awful customer service. They make promises about repairing your boat then come up with all kinds of excuses why they fail to repair it correctly. They are extremely expensive, arrogant, and condescending. Like it is a privilege to give them your money for a mediocre job! Never again. Grady White should be ashamed to have them as a dealer.

We rented the 20' foot Grady center console for a day. Great boat equipped with trim tabs and Garmin's newest GPS. The GPS trackback feature of previous boat renters trips made for a much more pleasurable, stress-free trip. We did a pleasure trip where we went to look at the Ringling mansion, went into Sarasota sailboat bay, had lunch at Dry Dock (excellent), went out into to the gulf and up to Passage Key. Then on our way back, inshore, stopped for a while just east of the north Longboat Key bridge, near Cannons. Great stop to end the day. Cannon's provides you with a quality large nautical map. Nice staff. Highly recommend for folks with some previous boating experience.

My wife and I got a few friends together and rented from Cannon Marina a 24' Southwind Deck boat. We had a lovely afternoon cruising around Anna Maria Island and into Sarasota Bay.
On our return to the gas dock a young attendant filled the tank, noted our gas usage and moved the boat to another dock. Just after we left Cannons I realized that I had left my camera onboard the boat(in a drink holder at the helm). Just after we left the Marina closed for the day. I called and left a message as to where to look for my camera. I called again just as they opened the next morning. They went to the boat and found no camera. I know where I left the camera...........so who took it.
I would have posted some pictures of our trip on this review but someone else has my camera. My hope would have been that Cannons management would have been more assertive in trying to find out what happened to my camera. There was no call back and no apology. Not a happy customer.

Rented a super boat for a full day fishing, ten people, including four under twelves.
Boat was very luxurious and comfortable with plenty of places to sit if required.
Clear maps etc were provided and easy to follow..
When suitable, put foot down and went very fast , which went down well with everyone.
We all caught a variety of fish, identified for us by our biologist dad and the children enjoyed seeing the fish close up. Docked carefully for a delicious lunch then slowly made our way back in the sunshine ..perfect end of a lovely relaxing nd fun day.
Staff helpful, informative and friendly.
We are having another trip with them in April when we are in Florida again.
Well recommended

I want to start by saying that we have been renting boats here for the past 2 years with a friend who sets it all up and we come along as guests of his. Yesterday, we rented without our friend and went out on our own, so, you could say this is our first true rental.
The service at the desk was awesome, the young lady was professional and very informative and friendly. The boat was nice! ( we originally booked the 20 ft deck boat, but received the 24 ft deck boat to the smaller one needing some service. It was a nice upgrade.
The dock assistant was less than professional, however. He was young, grumpy and seemed to really hate his job, or even worse- the customers.
The day on the water was amazing. Towards the end of our trip we saw a storm on the horizon and decided to head back to the marina. We pulled in just in time to hand our boat off to the same "friendly" dock assistant. As we pulled in I was trying to joke with him saying that we just made it time for the monsoon, and he wasn't amused. He grumbled something like "I wasn't worried about you guys, I was just worried about my boat". WOW. How do you respond to that?
Any ways, we unloaded the boat, paid for the gas and were unable to leave due to the strong wind, heavy rain and lightning. We were invited in by the store staff to wait out the rain and made some fun conversation with a few employees...once the rain let up we left for home.
All in all it was a great experience. Too bad one bad apple had to leave us with such a nasty impression. We will be back, we will just try to avoid Mr. Sunshine, I guess...

My wife and I are down on Longboat Key FL staying with mother-in-law and riding out Covid-19. What better way to social distance than get out on a boat in Sarasota Bay or the Gulf and do some cruising and some fishing. Went out three times, the first with wife and MIL in a 21 ft Grady White Fisherman center console. Awesome boat--top of my list for retirement. Mostly stayed in the Bay fishing on grass flats and the LBK inlet. A few days later I rented a 17' Scout flats boat for some fishing by myself, entirely in the bay. Another great boat, built for a different purpose, of course. Yesterday I went back to the Grady to get offshore.
So the Cannons crew, who have been on LBK for decades, know their boats, know their water and know good service. Highly recommend them. My only complaint is that they have shut down the rental operations for the next couple-three weeks because of all the NY/NJ people fleeing to Florida. That would be me, except I've been here for a few weeks already and satisfied whatever quarantine anyone might want. But I sure wish I could get out again for as long as I'm cooped up here...
They also do sales--I may be back in a couple of years for my own GW.

We have never rented a boat in Florida.
Do we need a license? And experience?

Dirver license, yes. If you were born after January 1, 1988 the State of Florida requires you to present a valid boating license at the time of rental. I hope this helps.
