very nice county park for picnics, hiking, canoe launch, wildlife watching on the Alafia River just a few mile from Fishhawk. There are paved and boardwalk hiking trails along the river and more primitive trails that lead to primitive walk in camp sites. And there are group camping areas for use by youth groups all at very reasonable rates. Also a great playground area to keep the kids busy.

We rented a Canoe from Alafia River Canoe Rentals at 4419 River Dr Valrico, FL 33596-7425. The canoe rental for the day which was 39.95, which included tax. They drove us and our gear to Aldermans Ford Park. We launched into the river which was a couple feet higher than usual because of heavy rains the day before. What can I say, I had the most relaxing time. The river is covered by a wonderful canopy of trees. You are virtually surrounded by tranquility and nature. The river is 99 percent clear of other peoples garbage, but I did see a can or 2. We paddled for a few hours, down river to the take out point. Miss Sybil and Mr. Mike of the rental facility were very sweet and kind. We will do trip again, it was extremely relaxing. They also rent kayaks. The park itself was very nice, lots of picnic shelters and restrooms. A perfect place for a family gathering. Bring a cooler with lunch, the trip takes about 4 hours give or take. There are no restrooms while you are on the river, plan accordingly.

This park is one of the regional parks in Hillsborough County. It truly is a beautiful and peaceful place. It is well maintained and has something for everyone. There are pavilions available for events and a play area for children. <--- That's the part that I avoid - just mentioning that it's there. :) There is a paved biking or running trail that loops through the park and a boardwalk. I believe it's just short of a 3 mile loop? Most of the trail is under tree canopy and it always seems cooler there than it does anywhere else around. The Alafia River runs through this park and there is a canoe/kayak launch here.. We often start out at Aldermans Ford and kayak to nearby Lithia Springs. It's one of the most accessible launches around and the river is hardly ever crowded. Though there are no canoes or kayaks available for rent in the park, Alafia River Canoe Rental is nearby. For those that prefer nature trails and not paved trails - they are there too. If you want a place for a peaceful/quiet day - this is the perfect place for it.

Today I had the most unfortunate pleasure of having to meet the park manager here by the name of Bryan Hughes. Myself and two other friends came to rent kayaks and have a nice scenic day. We get to the park all excited and pay for our rentals and go outside to wait. After waiting outside for awhile one of the park employees comes to inform us that the manager, Bryan Hughes, has given one of out kayaks away. He said we can either pay more or rent a canoe. In complete disbelief we told the manager that this wasn't right. We were promised a service and now you are going back on your word and asking us to pay more. He admits it was their fault but was unwilling to work with us. We agree to his terms and said we will rent the canoe even though that's not what we wanted. We then go outside to wait and he comes out with our money and asks us to leave. We kept asking him why is he doing that and not once would he give is a clear answer. We had done nothing wrong yet we were given poor service and lied to and then asked to leave. I'm sure the park is amazing and I wish I could have experienced it but that manager needs to be fired or demoted if that's how he treats people.

We went to Aldermans Ford Park for a birthday party. We were told to bring our bikes, great idea. There are many bike paths, so the kids had a great time. WHile we were at the park there were 4 different birthday parties. This was no problem because there are several covered patios. This is an awesome small park to visit for a day of exploring/bike riding and picnicking.

So my friend and I launched my tandem at the Alafia Canoe Outpost and was told that we wouldn’t run into any rapids. Well not the case and so I’m here to tell you that isn’t the case and that the current can be very strong. If your not experienced in rapids I’d suggest another river as the current swept us into a Fallan tree and our kayak flipped and things got scary. The sheriff office had to come in and rescue us and I ended up losing my kayak and no one has bothered to turn it in. So I wanted to post this to let people know. My kayak was a bright blue Lifetime tandem kayak with a homemade trolling motor on the back that my husband built. I’d love to get my kayak back so if you found it and have it my number is (315)466-3580. Appreciate it

Very nice facilities. One major loop, hard surface, about 1.8 miles. Other more natural trail and camping sites available. Bathrooms, parking and playgrounds.

I have been to this park approximately 100 times so I really know it. It is a small rural park along the Alafia River. The main park area is wooded with picnic areas, pavilions, and a small playground. They have a park office with a quaint display area. They do have public bathrooms! The best part is the nature trails which wind thru the hardwood areas along the river. Rarely crowded, it makes a nice outing. They now offer canoe and kayak rentals but I haven't used those services.

I have been going to Aldermans Ford Park since my boys were in strollers and had some of their Birthday parties there as well. They are now 28 and 25. Aldermans Ford Park is a good place to picnic, ride your bike and walk down the many beautiful paths/trails. I have also utilized the canoe launch several times and recently been on several picnics with my husband. Also took my 25 year old recently on one of his visits home. I highly recommend anyone to visit this park and assure you once you go, it wont be your last visit.

This is a small park south of Plant City, below Hwy 60. The hiking path is only 1.8 miles. It is paved, but they do have a few trails that goes in to the woods, as well as a section of trail that makes a loop of boardwalk. The main park has several picnic tables and bar-b-ques and play equipment for the young children. They do have bathroom facilities off the trail with water fountains. At about the mid point of the walk, you will pass the canoe launch area, which seems to stay fairly busy. The actual canoe launch area (if you are bringing a canoe or kayak) are at a different parking lot. You will pass the Alderman Ford's entrance on the left (if you are driving south to get there), and the canoe launch area is the next road to the right.

I found the park very pleasant. Very clean. The main trail was wide open and well maintained. One side of the trail you will get more of a view of the Alafia River. Even being a warm, and muggy day, I was not bothered at all from mosquitos. Most of the trail is shaded, so not as hot as it could have been in that hot Florida sun. On my walk, I passed many other walkers, joggers, bike riders, dog walkers and even some skaters. If you are in the area, I would highly suggest visiting the park. As far as driving a great distance to go there, personally I would only go there to have a good area to launch my canoe, since the park itself is not very big and there are plenty of trails around the state, but not as many launch sites.
