Spent the day hiking part of the FNST with my puppy Buc. Such a beautiful area. Started at Bear Pond early in the morning. The trail is orange blazed and easy to follow. Black Water Creek is approximately halfway thru the park and took about 90 minutes to reach. Great spot for a picnic. Next headed north to Cassia. This park is pretty amazing. Multiple trails, camp sites, and tons of wildlife. Hiking, biking, equestrian, camping, fishing, kayaking.. It's all here! Topography changes a lot also as you hike across the park. Beautiful, natural Florida. Nice to see some of it remains.
Highly recommended!

Don't forget water and your camera ;)

Camped at shelter site. Primitive site, no water or electric. You hike in a mile. This site is not directly on the river, but Wekiva River is close. We hiked in with way too much stuff. Ranger Paul, was super nice and gave us a ride back to the parking lot the next day. Saw bear, deer and raccoon tracks. They also have scrub jays, which are very rare. Cool thing about them is they like people and will fly on your head if you stay still. Definitely go back.
