We took the comprehensive walking tour (2.5 hours) of the campus with a very well-informed guide, Jack C. We didn't go in all the buildings designed by Frank Lloyd Wright but spent time in most and saw the exteriors of the others. The tour is...More

A go to in Lakeland for architectural history. Frank Lloyd Wright’s largest body of work in one location. While the college has expanded; they’ve done a great job adding modern buildings with a nod to their historic past. Worth taking the tour to really see...More

The campus of Florida Southern College is like visiting a living museum of Frank Lloyd Wright architecture. What imaginative buildings are on the campus! There's also a Frank Lloyd Wright house that you can visit there.

I really believe this place might be one of the happiest places I’ve ever been to. Personal attention and true concern for the prospective students. In addition just a gorgeous campus to visit :)

Beautiful campus! Haven’t been inside too many of the buildings, but the lacrosse field is great, we attended all the home games last season and plan on doing so again next season. Coach Ward is a great guy.

Take the tour of the buildings. Learn about the architecture that is Frank Lloyd Wright. The tour is well worth the time and the money.

We had a 1 hour tour, should have done the 2 hour tour! Very informative but we wanted more! Our docent was well informed and friendly. I knew nothing about Frank Lloyd Wright or his concepts, and learned a lot.

We had a chance to walk through the campus to look at the Frank Lloyd Wright architecture. We learned that this is the largest collection of buildings designed by him. We were able to get into the Chapel, which was beautiful, with a pipe organ...More

Yes, the gift shop/visitor center is your first stop. You can ‘self guide’ or they have guided tours at set times. Suggest calling them. Number and other info from their web page is: Sharp Family Tourism and Education Center... More

Where to Stay? (2 Replies)
I'm confused about location. Is staying right on the beach the way to go? We will have a rental car, but want to be in a location where there are things to do during the day or at night. We are looking for a nice hotel. We have to travel to Florida Southern College in Lakeland during the week of March 10, for our daughter's softball games, but will have lots of free time, so we thought Clearwater would be good. Or should we stay in Tampa?

We will be visiting Florida Southern College on Monday and would like to have your recommendations for a nice hotel nearby. We are Marriott rewards members and are looking to stay at a Marriott.

This is a seldom visited Forum ( about one post a month) as Lakeland is a small town and not very touristy, so I might help by saying I only know of two Marriott brands there , a Courtyard and a Residence Inn very close to one another and both about 3 miles from the college I have never stayed in either but I think both are fairly nice.. It's mainly a town of motels like La Quinta and Holiday Inn Express. The college is lovely. We often travel to Lakeland to see friends.

Hotel for college visit AND scenery/fun? (26 Replies)
We're taking my son to visit University of Tampa as well as Florida Southern College (in Lakeland). It's easy enough for me to use the web to find hotels near the university, but I'm wondering if we might find it more enjoyable to stay somewhere near "the water" (any water) for the scenic views and maybe some fun in late afternoons and evenings. Or is all of this an inconvenient drive (in traffic) relatively far from UT and our way to Lakeland, meaning we should just stay somewhere near...More

Rocky Point is the best place to stay in the Tampa area, imo. You can easily get to downtown Tampa/UT area or the Courtney Causeway will take you straight to Clearwater Beach. There is the Courtney Causeway trail that runs through Rocky Point, right alongside the water, for walking/jogging/biking. Traffic won't be bad on a regular weekend. During the week, it is only a hassle during the morning and afternoon rush hours.
