Minimal Communication, Empty Promises
Aug 2021
I had been planning a visit to my best friend in Lakeland for a year. I had called and left multiple voice mails at least once each month during this time as well as multiple emails, messages through facebook and through their website contact system. Often, the voice mail box was full so I would use alternate means of communication. My friend and I are very athletic and wanted to kayak in the morning, then take the camel ride tour in the afternoon. The one time I was able to speak to Jason, he assured me that we would be able to ride camels "no matter what." After speaking with him, I attempted to contact them again to confirm multiple times without success. When we arrived, we were told that there would be no camel ride, and that I had been informed of that. I assured them that I had not been informed of that at all and was very disappointed.
Since we had spent so much money, we decided to make the best of it and go about what was available. I was repeatedly insulted. I was informed that I would not have been able to handle kayaking followed by a ride in the Florida heat. The kayaking was a sad joke. I am a native Floridian and regularly kayak for over an hour, ride horses for over an hour, and then walk 5 miles in one Floridian summer day. To tell me what I can and can't handle was infuriating. I do not recommend the kayaking to anyone regardless of level. It was like kayaking in a ditch they had dug out with bulldozers in a figure 8.
If you want to enjoy this attraction, please sign up for the least expensive option since it isn't really worth what they are charging. If you can just do the self guided tour in your own vehicle, do that. Do not pay for extra buckets of food to feed the animals as this is wasted money. If you ride the big truck for the tour, one bucket of food is provided, and you won't even get to empty that one bucket. I paid for two extra buckets of food for no reason at all. Paying for anything extra is a waste. Since there are no refunds regardless of what happens, I knew not to ask about how much I spent or point out the excessive waste and false advertising. Be warned. It doesn't matter how many times they list camel rides, or even if they tell you you will be able to ride. There is no opportunity to ride the camels at all. The other tours are not worth the expense. At the price they are asking, you might as well go to Disney's Animal Kingdom!

Fun experience. Animals were sweet and we loved the interaction. Tour guide was knowledgeable and never felt rushed. Price point is excessive. Would like to bring other family but not worth the $239 to return.

Rainy day on the savanna

We visited to celebrate my son’s 35th birthday. The animals were well cared for and brought back many happy memories of our visit to Africa almost 25 years ago. Our tour leader Art was very tolerant of the restlessness of our 2 year old grandson. The private tour was a great way to avoid crowds during the pandemic.

Once we got the arrival situation done - everything went smoothly. It was fun start to finish. We rode the camels. Unique and great experience. Then we got to feed the lemurs. Soooooo much fun!

Scam Alert
Jul 2021
I booked a Camel Safari for $1080.28 (paid in full) for 4 people three days prior since we were able to get an RV site at the Cabana Club last minute. The day before we received a voicemail from Jason saying they were keeping an eye on the weather and asked if we wanted to reschedule, but they would “probably” give me a call in the morning. Rescheduling was not an option due to military orders. I did not receive a phone call the next morning, so we packed up the car and headed over assuming we were still on. In the confirmation email, it noted: “Gates open 20 minutes before your tour, we ask that you plan on arriving at least 20 minutes early to allow time for check in, restrooms, etc.”. After driving out to the middle of nowhere, no civilization nearby, bathrooms, people, etc, you are to drive down an extremely long and narrow driveway to a chained and padlocked gate which is much taller than your average gate/fences, more like a prison. There is nowhere to turn around. If there is a single car behind you, you'd be trapped. We arrived early thinking we’d have access to a bathroom. I called the phone number on the gate, but no one answered or called me back. We backed our vehicle all the way back out to the road and waited a little longer for a call back. During that time, two vehicles came to the property and zoomed right past us down that long driveway. They did not appear to be other customers as they looked like they knew exactly where they were headed. This was all very unsettling and scary. After not receiving any phone calls back, we decided to leave and head back to camp. I called again once we returned to camp. Finally they answered. I explained the circumstances, not having access to the bathroom etc. I requested a refund. I was told they could not issue a refund right then, but they would reach out to the manager and get back to me. I waited a few days, no response. I followed up with an email. No response. A lot of the reviews do not appear to look legit. Upon more research, Tiger King’s Carole Baskin with the Big Cat Rescue in Tampa, FL has listed them on her petition to the United States Depart of Agriculture (page 11) for engaging in unsafe and alarming business of allowing members of the public, including small children, to interact and pose with dangerous wild animals. You can see for yourself in a quick Google search “big cat rescue petition safari wilderness” and click on the first link that comes up. Don't make the same costly mistake I did. This place is unsafe and a scam.

Better for kids
Jul 2021
We enjoyed our time and our guide was great. It is not an experience we would do again. There are about a dozen species of animals which consist of elks, Asian buffalos, llamas, Ostridge, zebras, warthogs, and camels. The do give you feed to give to the animals and many will eat it right out of your hand. There are no predator species on the property. It would be a great experience for kids.
The place is a little worn out which could have been from COVID closure due to state guidelines. My opinion is that it was expensive considering the overall experience.

What a WONDERFUL DAY!!!
Jul 2021 • Family
What a wonderful day we had!!! We took the 9 AM driven open air vehicle tour. Our tour guide, Art, was incredibly informative. Enjoyed learning about so many beautiful animals!! Many thanks Art!! 🦓🐫 Feeding the water buffalos was my favorite. Amazing how gentle they are. Also… so many baby animals since we visited just after spring time. Just adorable ❤️
Great place to visit… loved it!!!
