I came to Lake Worth from New England regularly as a child. In those days downtown Lake Worth was a colorless, bland small town with a handful of banyan trees. -Not anymore! The banyan trees are still there, but downtown Lake Worth pops with vibrancy and color. There are wall murals throughout the downtown area, small boutiques, cozy bars and quirky restaurants. People working in these establishments are warm and friendly. We were lucky enough to attend the annual Lake Worth Street Painting Festival this year. It was a mellow 2 day street party with astonishing artists and attending visitors, beautifully organized and well attended. Kudos to Lake Worth for valuing the arts. Please continue on this wisely chosen path! Besides the charming downtown area Lake Worth offer a great beach and pier for water activities.

What an amazing town. Always something to do. Very artsy community especially when they hold the annual Street Painting Festival! Great shops and restaurants. Lovely parks and only minutes from a fantastic beach. Lake Worth has something for everyone both young and old!

Always enjoy the paint festival in downtown Lake Worth. Very talented artist, good music and all for free. In previous years I remember 3 Dimensional street art where it looked like the road was actually cracked and moving.
The trick is getting there early while there’s parking, before it gets too hot and too crowded.

Great small shopping options downtown. Bali Importers on Lake Ave. is a must. Great rotating merchandise at amazing prices. Always wish I’d brought an extra suitcase.

My wife and I were staying for the weekend at one of the beach hotels. We found downtown Lake Worth enchanting.
Great nigh life. Music was in the bars and on the street. We had a blast.
We plan to visit again.

While Lake Worth and downtown Lake Worth have had their issues (what city/town doesn't??), as someone who has lived here 11 years, I can tell you that many of the problems have been overcome, and the downtown area is headed for even more improvement. I LOVE our downtown area, where I live, and I am not an "addict" and I do not have 1 tattoo nor colored hair (as suggested by a reviewer here.) This is a great, diverse, accepting community, and while gentrification is increasing, I still find us much more charming than the high end, over-priced Wasp haven that is downtown Delray. We have many mom & pop places and I do hope that continued gentrification does not take away this aspect of our downtown area, it's what makes it unique. I AM enthusiastic that Delray's "Sundy House" owners have purchased our historic Gulfstream Hotel, and have major renovation plans that are only going to be a plus to our Lake Avenue. As it stands right now, our downtown area is not much different than Key West was before over gentrification turned that into a "Fast Buck Freddies" generic wasteland that has almost completely destroyed that great, charming, history filled little island, and I'm hoping that doesn't happen here. We are a fun, funky, friendly little "Mayberry" with a twist, with many charming houses, cottages, buildings, businesses, and people, as well as a great indie movie theater and our wonderful historic "Lake Worth Playhouse", and I, like many, love it here and intend to be supportive of its continued improvement..(but, not TOO much..Lol.) I suggest "Midwest Family" stick to white bread Branson/Disneyesque areas and leave our town to us.

Driving around Florida towns can be a chore. Watch out for the oldsters! And so much of Florida has a soulless quality, corpie, a sameness, with overly-done developments and one town just tike every other town, but not Lake Worth. It's a unique place, a little gem, its own vibe, artists, musicians, writers. We visited for a day, ended up staying two weeks! A great stop if you're looking for something different.

The better-known towns in southeast Florida’s Palm Beach County, like “Boca” (Raton), West Palm Beach, or even Palm Beach itself, celebrate their ‘glitz-and-glamour.’ Then there are the quieter places – lesser-known little jewels proudly holding their own against that high-wattage competition.
“Downtown” Lake Worth is one of these. This funky little place, nestled west of the IntraCoastal Waterway, offers a fascinating variety of things to do. Like browsing the quirky shops lining both sides of Lake Avenue (technically State Route 802), one of its two major streets. Some are artsy-craftsy, offering exotic items (trinkets from Bali, anyone?) while others are consignment shops, a treasure-trove for antiques buffs.
If you need a break, head either to the local Starbuck’s or, even better, the incredibly rich ice cream selections and chocolate goodies available from Kilwin’s, a local-legend sweet shop. Tired of walking? Take your car into a time-warp, driving north on U.S. 1 for a bit to see the wonderful citrus-colored “Old-Florida” stores and motels that seem to be straight out of the 50s/60s.
But definitely return to downtown for dinner, for that’s when Lake Avenue truly comes to life. The street offers an amazing variety of restaurants, many with outdoor seating, and at a variety of price points. There are fancy white-tablecloth places, ethnic-food places, booze-brews-and-food places, and a branch of Too Jay’s, the ubiquitous southeast Florida restaurant chain serving New York-style deli at reasonable prices. But before eating you might want to catch an art-house type movie at The Stonzek Theater (next to The Lake Worth Playhouse), a film theater about as different from your average multiplex as it is possible to be.
So much of southeast Florida is dominated by roadside strip-malls and gated communities. Which is what makes Downtown Lake Worth special, for it is the antithesis to all that bland, featureless, clutter…a walk-able small-town neighborhood offering the opportunity to find something of interest just about everywhere you look.

Downtown Lake Worth is a nice little place to walk around, try some food, and spend your time relaxing. Everyone is friendly and it's a good place to be. It needs some improvements as the buildings can be very old. There is definitely potential for it in the future. Be careful, the people are nice, but they can be narrow minded in the sense that if you don't agree with their views, they can snap back at you. Other than that, the people seem friendly. It will be interesting to see how the small town develops through these next few years.

Are you a resident or a visitor? Other than Lake and Lucerne, most of the city seems like it is in the dumps....

We have been going to this area since the 60's and yes Lakeworth has changed. Like any town that grows in population, you will find good and bad. The downtown area has been renovated and we enjoy the many restaurant selections and a few shops. We do stay in the beach area though and love the Lakeworth beach and casino with a couple restaurants. One can spend all day there and the amenities are right there. So yes, look into where you stay.

While I see alot of positive support for this town, the restaurant reviews are not very good. It seems the town is changing, perhaps for the good. So why does Tripadvisor rate downtown top 3 in Lake Worth, where are the good restaurants, and what does anyone know about the Capri Motel we are staying at next month?
