A neat, out-of-the-way stop with a down home country feel

We have visited Henscratch Farms Winery every year for the past 5 years for their annual Grape Stomp in August. You get to step into a vat with tons of grapes and stomp them "I Love Lucy style." It is the coolest thing ever! There are 200 free range chickens and roosters that run around on the premises. They are... More

Our group of 47 descended upon Henscratch Winery and they handled us with aplomb. We fed their chickens, rested on the fan cooled front porch, sampled their sweet wines, oogled their eggs, and chatted with these very friendly proprietors. All in all, you will probably enjoy this little country winery if you enjoy a country setting, nice shade trees, sweet... More

This trip was planned for the sole purpose of acclimating our 9 month old chocolate lab to traveling. My husband and I like to visit wineries, and on the way to the State Park, we found Henscratch!! The pup wasn't really interested in the wine tasting but she sure got a surprise none of us expected. She just stood and... More

We went wine tasting and hoping to get some strawberries and a strawberry shake. Due to the cold weather there were no strawberries at our visit. We did enjoy tasting some wines and looking around the cute gift shop. Outside there are many hens and roosters running around that you can look at!

Our friends asked us if we'd like to spend an afternoon at the winery listening to music. Of course we'd like to and that's just what we did. We tasted some wine. It was ok; the music was pretty good; it was a beautiful sunny afternoon outdoors and they have a really cute gift shop, but the real fun was... More

Visited the winery while on family vacation. Very small, but has good wine selection. Kids enjoyed feeding the chickens while grownups tasted wines.

With an idea in mind to buy a unique Christmas gift, my friend and I headed inland to Lake Placid. We love little wineries and with a cute name like Henscratch we could not resist! The directions are accurate. We arrived right at Noon on a Sunday. Understanding alcohol is not served until after 1pm (Bible Belt), we wandered the... More

For all the advertising they do, you'd think that this is a bigger attraction. We stopped there to see what all the crowing was about (pun). A few products to sell to the tourists and some wine which was mostly mixed with Muscadine wine. At almost $25.00 a bottle, which one variety was, I'll get better stuff for much less.
