I have stopped here a few times while on US 27. The park has always been quiet and was quiet today too. The restroom was clean. There are a couple dozen picnic shelters and a display of a couple old engines and pumps which I presume were used in water management. Most times I have stopped here the park has been well maintained, however today in several spots the grass was higher than usual to quite overgrown.

We've pass this park for five years now. Every time we visit family we always say to ourselves -"This parks looks great for a walk, we have to stop one day". This past Thanksgiving Day, we were driving down to family and we finally stopped after our two hour drive. My first impression was that it was clean,, grass cut, picnic tables clean and well maintain bathrooms.
We were not able to stay for long, but we noticed that they have barbecue areas surrounding the lake, so we are planning to meet family there soon for a nice fish fried time.

John Stretch Park is half way between Clewiston and Belle Glade, nestled in the shadow of Lake Okeechobee dike. Although the lake itself is not visible from the dike but there is plenty to see - alligators and eagles, especially. There is a boat ramp for those who want to get up close and personal with the water. The park has a large picnic shelter that can be reserved for large groups and numerous smaller shelters for family gatherings. An added bonus is the cricket games on the commons on the weekends.

John Stretch Park is in Lake Harbor, a small town nestled in sugar cane between the larger city of Clewiston and small city of South Bay. It's a picturesque park with bathrooms, shady oak trees and multiple covered picnic tables with bbq grills. There's no admission, plenty of parking and lots of tables, so it's a nice place to get off the road, walk the dog, take a nature break and eat a little snack.
There is a lake within the park. There is also a bigger lake with a small open area for shore fishing. We tried fishing both the small and the bigger lake, but all we caught were small bluegills. On one end of the park is a dam that allows shore fishing. We also tried fishing the dam from the rocks that line the dam, but there were a couple of big alligators that weren't afraid of humans swimming around, so that cut our fishing expedition short.
Over the hill of the park is a boat ramp that goes to Lake Okeechobee. There's a sign that warns that the ramp is steep, and indeed it is. We went to look at it, but it doesn't appear that anyone ever uses it, with good reason. This steep concrete ramp was covered with loose gravel, so I promptly took a spill and landed on my knee and hand. The ramp is free, but I do not recommend launching a boat (or kayak) of any size--use the boat ramp at South Bay instead. The South Bay ramp is also somewhat steep, but it's not covered with dangerously loose gravel... and people do use it. We have. ;)

This is a very nice rest area stop while driving through this area. Although it is not very exciting it is a great little park to stop for a rest. There are not many things to do around here outside of this park area.

This park is the middle point between Miami and Sebring. We always park there to use bathrooms which are very clean and also the park has police presence. Good stop to take a break in your way.

This is a beautiful park with lots on picnic shelters and cooking grill areas, nice place for a leisurely walk or maybe just a short rest. I found it to be very convenient while traveling in this area.
