My family and I spent the week in the Orlando area and was looking for something a little different to do to break the monotony of the theme parks. Not far from where we stayed I found the Kissimmee Rodeo. Because they only have the rodeo two times per month, we were fortunate to catch it while we were in the area.

We arrived about 7:30PM for an 8:00PM start time. Contrary to a previous reviewer, though the parking lot is just a grass field, it is lit at night. Because we were Florida residents, we got in for just $15 per adult. If you are not a Florida resident, the regular rate is $25, but you can pick up a $5 coupon in advance. Children 6-12 are $10. We were pleased they accept American Express.

We found a good spot on the bleachers and waited for it to begin. Here was the order of events for the night:

-Open with greeting and prayer (we liked that!)
-Live singing of the national anthem (we liked that too!)
-Junior bull riding
-Senior bull riding
-Horse trick riding
-Kids calf ribbon challenge. This is where they invite all the kids down (ages 5-12), turn 3 calves loose with ribbons tied to them and let the kids try and chase them down. One of my daughters who is six participated and loved it!
-Female barrel racing
-Intermission
-Back to junior and senior bull riding

The night was 2 hours on the dot from start to finish. Afterward they invited kids to come down where they could pet and sit on one of the horses where you could take your own pictures. Another plus!

In addition you are free to wander the grounds and purchase a variety of items consisting mainly of food and some western wear. A 50/50 raffle goes to a scholarship program of theirs. The pot was about $75 or so.

We guessed there were about 250-300 people present. This was a cool night in late November. The place was probably not half full. I'm guessing in peak season you might want to arrive early for a good seat.

All in all we had a great time and would certainly come back. I can only think of two downsides:

1. Sitting on metal benches for two hours will take a toll on your back.
2. There were times of some notable "waiting" whether waiting on a rider to come out of the chute, looking for a stop watch or waiting to see if a rider showed up. I could tell on a few occasions the emcee tried to hurry things along. It really wasn't a big deal though.

This was my first time at a rodeo. There is always that unsettled feeling of new territory and doing something for the first time. No worries here. Many people were hear for the first time. There was also a large amount of European guests. They easily represented 6-8 different countries! If you're looking for some different, local fun that won't break the bank check this place out!

I've included several pictures from our visit.

We found out about the rodeo from a flyer that we picked up at Gatorland. We have been to a few rodeos before and on arriving at this one, were made to feel so welcome at this very local and great fun family event; we had a great great evening. It was two hours of absolutely fantastic family fun. My three year old son and five year old daughter were just enthralled from start to finish and spent the entire two hours captivated by what was going on in the arena with the bull riding, barrel racing, roping etc showing excellent horsemanship from competitors ranging in age from 8 upwards. All of the children in the audience were invited in to the arena to participate in one of the smaller events which my son loved. My son has also never eaten so much delicious grilled corn.....I think the count was about four by the end of the evening! The steak supper and BBQ sandwiches were also delicious, washed down with a couple of cold beers. A great fun evening and yes we did of course come home with a couple of cowgirl hats and the cutest little lasso rope on order for my son who is obsessed with trying to rope anything now with whatever he has in his hand. I also now have a five year old little girl whose new ambition is to be a cowgirl! Needless to say that walking around Disney today her Mickey Mouse ears were replaced with her new cowgirl hat.....the rodeo was a great evening out and one I am sure all ages would enjoy.

A brilliant evening, everyone was very friendly. The announcer was very entertaining and there is a meet and greet after the Rodeo which last about two hours. Food and drink was very nice and reasonably priced. If you get the chance don't miss this great evening.

Just got back from the Rodeo. What a great night and at last we did something in Florida and didn't feel we were being fleeced. It was a real American rodeo, not a show. There was an entry fee of $20. Free parking (the first time this holiday). Good cheap food and really friendly people running the competition. There was live music and dancing after but unfortunately we couldn't stay. Everyone enjoyed it. Even the grumpy teenagers.

Don't get me wrong, when it comes to entertainment, theme parks are very highly rated by my husband, me and our family of three tween & teens BUT after a week of rides, glitzy shows, animal encounters and all the great things that any slick theme park has to offer we concluded that actually we could be anywhere in the world and that we needed something more authentic to get a feel of being in the USA.

The perfect solution came (having booked whilst in the UK) at the Kissimmee Sports Arena with an evening of bull riding, lassoing, barrel racing and general Rodeo fun & entertainment, helped along by the family patriarch cowboy-compere and a good availability of great value burgers, hot dogs, drinks etc, all enjoyed as we watched the fun. For anyone needing a fix of commercialism there were cowboy hats to buy if you so wished!

The competition between participants was tangible and infectious with whoops, cheers and feet-stomping on the tiered, metal seating from all the spectators as times were beaten and barrels navigated by racing men, women and children (as young as seven!!). Genuine shrieks of concern for the fallen bull rider and of delight when they managed to cling on for that extra second or two! You just can't stage that kind of entertainment!!

So, if you're looking for something more authentic than a "Wild West" show and you're happy to sit outside (mostly covered seating) on a Floridian Friday night for a couple of hours you won't do better than to go to the Rodeo. Oh, and if you're 12 years or younger be prepared to join in a game during the intermission - I won't spoil the surprise but wear your trainers not sandals: My 10 year old rues her fashion choice and maintains that victory would have been hers if she'd been more suitably shod!! We'll just have to go back another time to see...

Just had a really good evening at the Rodeo, great entertainment, friendly people, exciting riding. A really good departure from the usual Orlando Theme Parks. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to do something different on their trip and see a bit more of American culture!

This is my first review on trip advisor but I felt I just had to sign-up and write about our fantastic night. We've just spent a fab 2 weeks in Orlando but being a bit disney'ed out we wanted to try something different so went for a night at the Rodeo. What a fantastic night we had. Great entertainment for all the family, they even got the kids involved in the arena chasing calves! The steak was the best we had all holiday. The people were wonderful and so welcoming it's a must visit and we will definitely visit on our next trip. Thank you for a great evening!

This was the best night's entertainment we had so far on our vacation. Exciting and fun to watch an authentic rodeo. A great venue for a genuine experience and a warm welcome for visitors. Respect to those bull riders! Special thanks to Patrick for sharing his experience and showing us around.

After years of wanting to attend a rodeo the opportunity was here. There was something for all ages as the under 10's were invited to take part in the show. With grandstands on two sides of the arena as well as flat standing areas everyone could see the action. Bull riding, however briefly, cattle roping and some great horsemanship. Following the performance we had some of the best steaks ever! While we were entertained with live music. Definitely a must do again.
