I took my boyfriend to The Docks at shingle creek for his birthday this October and it was a wonderful experience. I booked our kayak online and it was very simple and quick. They have tandem or single kayaks and canoes! When we arrived at the Docks the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful! She explained to us how to use the kayaks and told us about both ends at the creep which are the sandy beaches or the Toho lake. We decided to go to the sandy beaches since she recommended we head there and it was a great idea! The scenery was beyond beautiful. We saw much wildlife, besides alligators, which I’m glad! The sandy beaches were beautiful, you could park your kayak and chill in the water or the sand without interruptions. Definitely recommend it and we will definitely be coming back, this time to Toho lake!!!

- [ ] Having a blast, tour guide's name is Dave, he was very knowledgeable about the local flora and wild life. It was a 2.5 hour eco tour. Can't wait to go again, they do a bio-luminescent tour after dark here and I would love to plan for it on a future trip. Would recommend to anyone.

The Griffin family reunion was held at the Docks. It was the perfect backdrop for an outdoor event that included all age groups. This is such a beautiful place and well maintained. Dawn was AWESOME! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND a visit to the Docks.

HIGHLY recommend this alternative to noisy, hot, expensive theme parks! Enjoy a lovely kayaking excursion with excellent equipment down secluded stream all the way to Lake Tohopakalaga. It's 45 leisurely minutes to the lake, and you can certainly paddle hours more on the lake or even cross to Makinson Island and walk around there. Dozens of species of birds are seen on this easy journey, so bring a camera! We saw one small alligator close up sunning, and there are likely more, but very safe generally. Dawn was super helpful and gave great advice on what to look for and where to go. Her facility is superb and well equipped. Very easy launching/landing system for kayaks, so even handicapped adventurers would find this accessible--best I've ever seen. My wife and I are experienced sea kayakers, but even beginners would love this place! If you're not up to paddling yourself, they have guided eco-tours of varying lengths that you'd certainly enjoy. They also have paddle boards and other equipment for rent. Though we've been going to the Orlando area for decades, we only discovered this gem location last month. We will certainly go again next time we're nearby (visiting from WI). Can't say enough about this wonderful place and experience, whether for a couple hours or the whole day. Don't miss it!

My 2 teenage daughters and I did the 2.5 hr ecology transition kayak tour. We loved it so much we came back on Friday to the Paddling centre (owned by the Docks at Shingles Creek) to do the self guided kayak through a smaller river but equally beautiful cypress forest. I live in Canada so Florida is a completely different ecosystem--I absolutely fell in love with the cypress trees and birds. I have kayaked in a lot of places, and I have to say this is my favourite to date. My teenage daughters found the 2.5 hr kayak tour a bit long, but when they complained of sore arms afterwards, I call that a parenting win :) . Our guide was Dave and he was great--full of knowledge and we kayaked at a nice slow pace. The river is beautiful--I was surprised that the lake at the end was the highlight of the trip. We saw so many birds and were able to get within 6 feet or so of them. If you love nature, you will LOVE this trip. We were almost back at the docks and I was only a little disappointed in not seeing an alligator--and sitting on the bank was a little guy, approx 2-3 years old. The trip was perfect--see my photos below- For teenagers and younger children, the self guided kayak tour at the Paddling centre may be a better option. But you see more wildlife on the 2.5 hr Ecology tour at The Docks--It is tough to decide between the two routes which is why we did both :)
