Worse than a Texas beach.
Aug 2021
We should have read the reviews first! We are from Texas where the beaches are well maintained but the water is brown. We were shocked to head this beach in the keys. I can’t believe I’m saying this but I’d rather be on a beach in Texas than this one. Seaweed everywhere and the stench is FOUL. Plus, the water is just as brown as Galveston back home.

Caca Plum Beach-Not a tourist destination
Jun 2021 • Family
Coco Plum Beach had such a nice ring to it, and one website I was on recommended it as a must-see destination for the keys.
Upon arriving we were delighted that there was ample, free parking: usually not the case for a beach.
The beach itself is full of dried sea grass, and there are two distinct brown streaks in the murky water.
The beach smells very foul.

I’m an open-minded nature loving person, and I will say on the flip side this is a turtle nesting beach so I am totally fine with it being uninhabitable by most tourists ha ha
I don’t even know how this has good reviews for tourism. Seek elsewhere.

Yuck.

We parked the car with high hopes of a beautiful beach, and we were so disappointed that the beach and the water were FULL of nasty seaweed. None of us wanted to stay there and swim in the gross brown water.

Gorgeous Natural Beach

If you are looking for a beach with all of the amenities, this isn't it. There's restrooms. But nothing else BUT, there's no crowd either! The beach is narrow but miles long. So there is plenty of room. The city cleaned up the beach (excess seaweed) and flattened the sand with a tractor this morning. And it was perfect.

The only downside (and this is nobody's fault) is that this is a shallow beach. Plus, lots of broken coral in the water near the shore. So you would be wise to wear watershoes (although that's not necessary if you are careful walking.

Just think of the possibilities

This is a great location for a great beach. It is on a quiet stretch of land off the beaten path but close to Marathon and all the creature comforts. The sand is typical Keys- hard but functional. Decent shell hunting. There are no services so you have to bring anything you need and maybe you could fit 40 cars in the parking lot. There is a bathroom and outdoor shower. I don't know why the local powers to be do not show any love for this beach as it could be a hidden diamond- meaning the beach is not maintained. The seaweed is allowed to congregate. The resulting smell is overwhelming and the brush is taking over. One visit and you can see the possibilities. Preservationists could argue for leaving the area untouched but there are already plenty of preserved areas in the Keys. I just don't get it.

Do not come here. You sink up to your knees in the mud seaweed beach. Stinks like hell. Not a nice beach. Go to Sombrero Beach. It is very nice.
