This is an awesome dive site for beginners, snorkelers, or even dive pros. Every trip i see something new. As soon as you tie off the boat will be surrounded by Sgt Majors, snapper and Chubs- I mean hundreds. Its only 5-6 miles off shore. Go early and get there before the bouys are all filled and you are looking... More

We grabbed a mooring ball and our daughter and granddaughter were thrilled to look down and see fish before getting into the water. Clear waters, lot's of smaller size fish made for a fun time! Perfect temps in August.

We've snorkeled this reef several times and have never been disappointed. The fish are numerous and the coral gorgeous. We've snorkeled Camcun, USVI and Cayman's. I'd consider this at least top five for our experiences. Fins a must to enjoy. Early morning trips usually get the best mooring spots. Negative: It's open ocean so the seas are generally 2-4 with... I'll skip telling you how amazing this place is and give you some tips instead: the ride out can be a little bouncy so I would take Dramamine or Bonine before you head out. Becasue it is a protected reef, you cannot anchor in the area - you must (or should) use the anchoring buoys that are provided (about 10... More

The water here is absolutely magical! We went out two days in a row. It was our first time grabbing a mooring ball, so I highly recommend watching YouTube tutorials if it is your first time as well. The first day waves were too large to snorkel, but the beauty was dazzling. The second day we were able to snorkel... More

We fished offshore every day for a week, and made a point of stopping at the reef to snorkel and enjoy the views every evening. It's like swimming in an aquarium

Great snorkeling for the entire family. Easy to navigate with markers to anchor the boat. LOTS of beautiful fish! Have done a lot of snorkeling throughout the Caribbean and this reef ranks right up there. Favorite day in Marathon! Highly recommend!

It doesn't matter if you swim or snorkel or dive the reef if spectacular. Take same bait with you and watch the fish swarm around you.

My husband and I rented a boat and stopped by Sombrero Reef around 10am. There was a tour boat and a number of private and chartered boats tied up to the moorings. It wasn't too crowded, but depending on the time you go, you may have to wait for a mooring to become available. The water was clear and small... More
