This reef is a must see. Compared to Molasses Reef and Pennekamp, this reef wins hands down. Lots of tropical fish, nurse shark, lion fish, and an eel were spotted right away. The fish swim around you and aren't afraid of you at all. It...More

I can see how this would be a great spot. It was so rough when we went, however, that we looped around and left. Don't attempt to get here on a bay boat or smaller in rough waters.

Whether you are an experienced diver or novice at snorkeling, you will enjoy the beauty of Sombrero Reef. I like the sense of safety at this location in comparison to Alligator Reef in Islamorada. There are a lot of boats and families in the water....More

Great snorkeling! We went with Spirit/Captain Pip's crew. The fish were beautiful and the reef was something you need to see.

Went to Sombrero reef today on a trip out of Captain Pips marina and had a wonderful time. You will see all types of fish.

Each time we come here, we see new sea life....this time it was spotted eagle stingrays!! We've seen nurse sharks several times, and just about everything else. Much more laid back area with lots of boating options.

Great public beach. Easy access. White sand. Some seaweed but that is the beach. Bathrooms. Great views. Good snorkeling.

I would suggest a skin. If the sun is out it will be fine since you are on the surface. But don't risk ruining your trip by being cold!!
