Captain Hook’s Marathon has been the place to get everything you need for a day on the ocean. We have achieved the TripAdvisor's Certificate of Excellence three years in a row now. Our services include diving & snorkeling trips, Thunderbolt wreck and night dives, spearfishing & lobstering, dive instruction & certification, fishing charters. Our store compliments and fully supports those services with a full-service bait & tackle shop and a full-service dive shop. We have extended our business with the addition of Capt. Hook's Looe Key Reef Adventures in Big Pine Key and Capt. Hook's Dive Key West. This has added multiple dive sites, another wreck called, the Adolphus Busch Sr., and a beautiful sanctuary and premier dive and snorkel site...Looe Key Reef. We have also added Dive Key West in Key West, which brings us two more wrecks to dive, the USNS Vandenberg, the premier wreck in the Florida Keys and the Cayman Salvager. Great new reef and night dives as well.

Scuba diving was very good, shallow dives, which we prefer. The boat is a catamaran style so lots of deck space which was really nice both before and after the dive. We really like that the dives include a guide in the price, On two dives we had the guide to ourselves and he travelled at a very slow pace and showed us a lot of cool animals.

There is a tendency in the Florida Keys for dive operations to act like an afterthought business.
But not at Captain Hooks.
From the people that greet you in the store to check you in for the dive, to dive masters, to captain of the boat, to the first mate, and all team members, the focus is on maximizing your dive experience. This is the second time I’ve used Captain Hooks and they continue to meet my expectations.
Dive Master Henry is a one-man comedy show where he mixes his wonderful humor, customer focus, and dive safety and professionalism. He let us on a Sunday morning, dive wind weather and water conditions were average, but the temperature was on the cooler side. He found a way to make the entire experience enjoyable and underwater he is constantly pointing out marine life. Ask for him by name and you won’t be disappointed.

Had a great dive with Captain Hook’s. The entire team was very professional and Henry our dive master gave an exceptional overview of the dive with some humor added for fun. I was really impressed with the 2 dives and it was refreshing to see the reef in better condition than expected. I was also thankful that it looks like the lion fish population is down a bit with no sightings on our dive. I’ll be back again later in the year.

Matt, Dave, and Alyssa were awesome! We went snorkeling and diving earlier in the day and we had a great time. The crew is very professional and safety focused. I would highly recommend anyone who wants to go snorkeling to check out this place! Also they do a free shark feeding at 4:00 daily!! All in all it was a great experience and we will definitely go with them again!

We took an international dive trip hosted by Capt. Hook's to Roatan, Honduras in early September. Our group of four adults and two teens had an incredible time... Max, our dive master, took care of everything! From the all-inclusive meals to the transportation and expert dive setup, we couldn't have asked for a better adventure vacation. If you're looking to leave the planning to the professionals and just enjoy the trip, I highly recommend one of Captain hooks group excursions. Both expert divers and newbies will feel comfortable. Plus, you're guaranteed to make friends with other divers along the way. We can't wait for our next one!

I’m a new diver with new diving kids. Scheduling with Denise went very well. Prompt responses to questions. Check-in and equipment rental was very organized. Very professional and safety-oriented on our dive, with our boat captain, and Kevin our dive master. He was very helpful and patient with my being a “rookie”. My youngest was finishing his certification with David. When the weather on our second day wasn’t conducive to offshore, David rescheduled everything on the fly to finish up his certification dives at Big Pine Key. He really worked hard to make things happen, and it all worked out great. Look forward to coming back again someday, and diving with Captain Hook’s. Thanks everyone there.

Ive had the pleasure of diving with Captain Hooks for years in the Florida Keys, both in Marathon and Big Pine Key. It’s always a great experience and the provided Dive Master makes the experience even better! In addition to diving in the Keys, we’ve travelled with Hooks to Bonaire (January 2023) with our family, and loved it so much we went on the Roatan trip September 2024 and brought friends along. Both trips were amazing! Every part of the trip is planned down to the last detail by Max Ebel, the travel coordinator and superstar of Capt Hooks! All you need to do is just show up ready to dive and have an amazing adventure! We can’t wait to travel and dive with hooks many many more times in the future!

Nice dive - so glad they still go out in light rain. Nice short trip to Coffins Patch. Where 1903 wreck happened with a ship full of coffins for the 100 plus people that died in a hurricane.
They constructed a marker that came down in the next years storm. Turtle, rays, eels, bugs, etc.
Short trip unlike some of the dives on other islands where the trip out can take 45 min to 1 hour. This was 20 minutes out.
2 tanks at about 22 feet. Great warm up dive.

Did a 2 tank dive today with 2 friend. ALYSSA WAS AWESOME!! The entire staff was uncommonly friendly helpful courteous and knowledgeable especially about the smdofferent sites. They provided us with the amazing Alyssa as a dive master who went down with us which not all companies provide. Max depth was 30ft and conditions were amazing. Most importantly in a time where everything is over priced the experience we paid for was more than fair my only regret is that I can't dive with them again tommorow!!

We just went out with them snorkeling today. The crew was really friendly and funny. My daughter was initially very hesitant to go in the water and they took their time and explained everything to her and helped convince her. Can't say enough good stuff about the crew here and how friendly and professional they were. We found this place at the last minute since our other snorkeling cruise was canceled unfortunately an hour before launch so we were happy that we found them and we were able to go out on this beautiful day here in Marathon.

Are you required to be a certified diver? Or are there lower level beginner diving options?

You can snorkel if you are not certified. You can also take a one day course giving you the fundamentals& skills training in the morning and then an afternoon dive trip with two one-hour dives with an instructor. This is called a Discover Scuba Course.

Our boat rental company rents boats by the day and multiple days (A day equals 8 hours: 8am to 4pm). If a boat has not been rented then on the day you would like to rent the boat, you can rent the boat for a half day rate and 4 hours. There is a $1500 authorization prior to renting which is returned in full if the boat is brought back undamaged. You should also have experience operating a boat. Boats are 20 to 26 foot in length. I am wondering about safe, reasonably priced places to stay within walking distance (four or five blocks) of Captain Hooks? Hotels, motels, condos??? Also, are there restaurants within walking distance, and/or at least one decent grocery store? I'm aiming to visit in January or February, but I would rather not have to drive or worry about parking if it can be helped.

Holiday Inn Express is walking distance to Captain Hooks. The Holiday Inn has a restaurant attached to the hotel and there are several restaurants in the area. Nearest grocery store is 4.5 miles from Holiday Inn. Use Google earth to plot out Holiday Inn and Captain Hooks Dive Center.
