Highly recommend kayaking to Indian Key as the journey adds to the experience. Easy for inexperienced kayakers as the water is so shallow almost all the way across. We took a two person kayak and made it in about 30 mins, with a break in...More

We rode out to the key on wave runners which was an adventure in itself, but what great fun we had exploring the old settlement and learning all about the history of the people and places. There are no facilities at all on the island,...More

Took my 9 and 5 year old via kayak. We put one child on each kayak and my husband and I paddled. Paddling was easy and the kids enjoyed looking down in the clear water as we traveled. Once there it was hot but a...More

It's a pretty good paddle in the kayak if the wind is in your face which it was for us :) but definitely doable. The island is cool but does not live up to the hype - there is little evidence of the former colony....More

Once you rent a kayak from Robbie's you row out past the pier towards the Oversee's Hwy. Continue on under the bridge and on out to Indian Key. It's a great break and a look back into the Histroy of the Florida Keys. Be sure...More

The other reviews sum it up pretty well. $2.50 per person. Boat dock. Snorkeling was OK. Very shallow water from Robbie's to to Indian Key. Well worth the time! We went in late June and didn't have any issues with mosquitoes but I would guess...More

Indian Key is a very short and easy paddle. The water is VERY shallow the whole way. It's fun to paddle up to an island and even better to an island with lots of historical ruins. There are plaques all over the island explaining the...More

How long does it take to paddle from Robbies?

Response from santacruzer_95060 | Reviewed this property |
It took about 45 minutes one way. We were a large group with some younger kayakers. It's about 0.8 miles, and (very!) shallow water.
Is there parking on road and spot to launch our own kayaks?

We launched from Robbie's Marina and we also just launched from one of the roadside pull offs.
