When we passed Robbie’s, I immediately thought of a traditional fish camp. The buildings are a bit run down and there is an outdoor flea market like area. The restaurant, The Hungry Tarpon, provides outdoor seating with breathtaking views.
The highlight of visiting Robbie’s is feeding the tarpon. You pay for access to the dock to see the tarpon who wait near the dock for the easy fish dinner they are given by hundreds of visitors a day. Each bucket of fish is $4.
Robbies is voted the number one place in the Keys every tourist should visit, so we definitely had to do it. Add Robbies to your list of must do attractions in Islamorada with kids!

Stopped off at Robbie's on the way down the Keys. Wanted to hand feed the Tarpon. Couple dollars to go out on the pier and hand feed Tarpon was worth the entertainment. Pelicans trying to sneak your fish out the bucket, and a deck hand chasing them away with a pool skimmer lol. Bar tab was fairly cheap, but the Mahi Mahi sticks were awesome. They come with a sweet and sour sauce on them and the consensus of our group of 12 was a unanimous thumbs up.

This was one of several stops we made on the trip up the highway to Miami. There was a lot of parking in the area. A number of vendors with gifts and we hit the jackpot finding bracelets for our grand kids that we had been looking for all week! There were restrooms, a restaurant, kayak and paddle board rentals, boat charters.
We paid $2.50 each and $4 for a bucket with some fish and signed that we would not touch or feed the pelicans. We did our best to get the fish to the tarpons, but those pesky pelicans were fast and often out swam the tarpons. We also saw a manatee near the dock.
It was a fun touristy thing to do and we enjoyed our stop here! Lots of people on the docks but room to spread out to feed the tarpons.

Dangerous . The Pelicans will bite you . Going on the dock at Robbies to feed the tarpons is a bad idea . A pelican bit my husband as he was trying to feed the fish . It came from behind him & bit his hand , it happened very fast. The pelicans are very aggressive and go after you . They were also going after children . There is no one there dealing with the situation. The staff at Robbies allows the dock to get very crowded , they do not care about safety , only about charging to enter the dock & selling fish to feed to the tarpons. Making money is all they care about ,the dock gets incredibly crowded making it impossible to get away from the pelicans . Robbies management needs to control the situation or it needs to be shut down . Do not go there unless you are interested in being attacked by a pelican or falling off the dock because it’s so overcrowded.

This review is solely based on the charter fishing we did through Robbies. I would never recommend this to anyone. We did a party boat. Max people I believe is 20 and we had about 12, 8 of which were actually fishing. If you are going to start your safety briefing off by trying to make sure people tip the first mate you should make sure he’s actually doing something. The majority of the tip he complained about the heat and his 20 hour day. Yes we know it’s hot. He then sat on his phone and smoked instead of paying attention to people. We were told he would help bait and take off fish. The baiting never happened for us or anyone that I saw and it was rare he was paying attention long enough to see we caught anything. The guy next to me almost hooked myself and my husband multiple times and hit me in the face with his rod. Isn’t it your job to correct him or move him for safety? Instead the captain laughed from the upper level. One guy broke his rod while fishing so mine was taken as I was sitting down for a break because I’m pregnant. So I then went the next 2.5 hours without a rod and being able to fish. I was never given another rod so I paid to fish for all of 25 mins. At the third stop we had to sit and wait for the captain to throw out a cast net to get more bait. We are paying to fish, not wait for you to get the bait you should have already had for us. Between stops three and four there were 4 people with broken lines cut by fish. Instead of fixing them on the way the first mate goes up to the second level to joke around with the captain. Why are you not fixing those on the way to the next stop to get people fishing faster (what we are paying for). Instead at the 4th stop 4 people now have to wait. There was a family who left the rods sitting on benches with hooks just laying out. Again a safety issue that’s not seen but should be and be corrected. There were young kids on the boat who could have easily sat down or walked past and got a hook imbedded in them. You guys also missed the kid messing with anchor while the motor was running. So my husband and I had to tell him multiple times to stop and get away. Can you imagine if his arm or foot got caught in it?
This is not my first charter so I get certain certain issues that are out of control but this was ridiculous. Not happy to have wasted a large portion of our day and money of that was not fishing like I paid to do.

Bait and Switch
We scheduled a large group (17 people) for a half day Party Boat fishing trip for Christmas Day 2021 and paid in full in November. Upon arrival, we were told the 65 foot Party Boat was out of commission (had been since early December) and were given “option B” which was a smaller (looked to be around 50-55 ft) “fishing boat” catamaran that really could not accommodate our large group plus 4 other people not in our party. We were never told we would not have the 65 ft Party Boat even though they had called us the week before Christmas to confirm our reservation and see if we wanted to pay a bit more for a private charter for our large group, which we declined.
After we told them this was not acceptable, the owner of the boat, Billy, said our options were to go ahead with the “new boat” (no discounts) or get a refund. We chose to get a refund because the new boat was NOT what we had paid for and could not accommodate our group comfortably. Needless to say, our group was mad and disappointed. I must commend the young lady at the check in and the captain for their professionalism during the process as it clearly was not their issue but the boat owner. We tipped the captain anyway because he and his crew would be short tips for the day because of the cancellation.
This was a perfect example of no accountability and poor customer service by the BOAT OWNER. Not sure what his arrangement is with Robbie’s, but it is a black mark on them too.
We would not recommend the Party Boat option at Robbie’s if it involves this boat and this owner. Truly felt like bait and switch – vendor did not provide the service or experience that was advertised. Full disclosure, we did receive the full refund. Side note, Robbie’s is a fascinating place and we had a good experience with the kayak vendor there earlier in the week.

Tarpon are still thick and hungry. The restrictions now in place made eliminated the crowd on the dock and the 50% capacity on the boat more enjoyable even with the higher price per person. Captain Chris was knowable, but made expectations too high and did not deliver on type or size of fish he predicted we "could" catch. Overall our group (3) took home six snapper, two grunts, one proxy, and fourteen rainbow runners. Great memories!

Chances are pretty high that you’ll come to Robbie’s to either “feed the tarpons” or “watch the tarpons being fed by someone else”. They do charge a fee for both activities. You can, however, watch for free from a distance. And in case you don’t know what a tarpon is (I didn’t either), it’s a fairly large fish (to about 8 feet) that lurks in the Atlantic waters. But Robbie’s is much more than just a tarpon feeding tourist trap. It has a restaurant, a bar (where we had a couple of drinks), an open air market with individual vendors, a shop and much, much more. You could easily spend the entire day here, definitely if you decide to go with any of the water activities that they offer: kayaking, snorkeling, jet skiing and so on. Robbie’s is a fun place to stop, and a must if you are in the Lower Keys (it’s located right on the Seven Mile Bridge), but keep in mind that it can feel overwhelming.

Me and some friends went out on the captain Micheal party fishing boat. Let’s just say, it wasn’t my kind of party. The seas were rolling at about 5 feet and once we were anchored you could hardly keep your footing, I caught myself a couple times from toppling overboard and more than half of the passengers on the boat became seasick. Within minutes we come to find out that the heads (toilets) were not working and there was no running water on the boat. At this time the boat should’ve been returned back to land! Tori the deckhand worked his butt off in keeping up with those that were able to fish but I feel that another deckhand should of been aboard to help. No assistance was provided to any of those that were sick, they were just left to sit there in their misery. Once we returned we had the Hungry Tarpon restaurant cook our fish at $15 a person. The host greeted us and we asked for a specific table that was leaving and he told us that in order to get that table we had to give him a tip. We were the only ones waiting for a table at this time. The service was poor, we were overcharged and the sides that accompanied our fish were not very good. I do not suggest going to Robbies unless you just want to stop for beer and feed the tarpon.

We were told by several that we had to go to "Robbies". So....we had to check it out. A huge place with a lot of places to sit and eat, inside and outside along the water. Very friendly staff. We sat outside by the water. Food was good. Then across the dock, there were lots of people doing something and screaming, etc. So, after breakfast, we went over there to check it out. You could go out on that dock for $2.00 a person and I think it was $2.00 (forgot the amount?) for a few fish in a bucket to feed these fish, called Tarpon under that dock. So, we got a bucket of fish and there is a section of the dock that is cut out with a net over it with holes in for people's hand. There are huge fish swimming under that dock, you hang on to one of those fish in that hole in the net and eventually a huge fish comes jumping up out of the water to grab the fish in your hand. Some are huge and their mouth is wide open and scares you....hence the screaming!! One of those things that are fun to do/see. They have a bunch of shops and souvenirs you can buy there too.

The snorkel boat that goes to Alligator Reef, Is it small dog friendly? Only 1 of us would be in the water at a time.

Some, but not all of Robbie’s is wheelchair accessible. We walked out onto the small peninsula for our lunch. That area is all sand and stone.

Can I bring a pool noodle to help stay afloat while snorkeling?
Written June 25, 2021
The rental company that you contract with will have recommended floatation devices. Due to liabilities I am sure that have protocols they need to follow. We use noodles all the time to assist with floating for snorkeling but they are not considered safety devices.

My son is Paralyzed in a wheelchair, do you have accessibility for us to use his chair without getting stuck. We have gone there in the past prier to his accident and it was all dirt rocky roads. I want him to enjoy like old times without feeling left out because he cant make it out of the parking lot

I have a boat rented for a week in late June 2021. Will it be equipped with GPS and depth/fish finder? Getting the 24' Hurricane Deck boat. Also, what can I expect for distance travelling off shore? Do you provide directions to reefs/wrecks accessible to fish? I want to fish for Mahi Mahi, snapper, grouper and maybe tuna if possible.
I have the boat rented for 4 days. I plan to fish 2-3 days with it and just have fun snorkeling, etc. the other day.
Written May 11, 2021
I completed the trip. Renting the boat was great! It was a 24' deck boat with a 250 HP yamaha outboard. The boat did have a GPS with pre-loaded destinations. We were able to go to several reefs fishing. We went to the light house and sandbar for snorkeling. We went to Checo reef for fishing and snorkeling. We went to the Indian Island for snorkeling. In addition, we went to several restaurants with docks for boats. We never went past about 4-5 miles offshore. The boat could handle 3-4' waves, but no more.

Can you kayak in the mangroves when it's too windy to kayak in the open waters?
Written March 9, 2021
There are plenty of places to kayak that aren’t directly on the ocean but I would call robbi’s.

Hello, trying to plan out a stop at Robbie's on our way to Key West. Can we feed the tarpon at any time? I know you open at 9 am. Also what time do they start to serve lunch? thank you so much.
Written February 22, 2021
Patrons can feed the tarpons when Robbie’s open for business. There is a food truck that serves snacks, beverages & ice creams for patrons to enjoy while they shop & rent water sports but we didn’t notice food truck serving lunch. Have a safe & fabulous trip & visit.
