About
The Kay K IV was built in 2002. She has ac and is well maintained. Easily handles up to 6 fishermen with her huge cockpit and large live bait well. The experienced crew will guide you to and give you instructions on how to catch Mahi , Wahoo, Sailfish, Kingfish, Tuna and more. Do you want to fish the reef for yellowtail snapper, muttons snapper and groupers? We can do that! How about fishing for something different? Interested in deep dropping (300ft to 600ft) for snapper, tilefish, porgies or snowy grouper? Captain Dave has the equipment and the expertise to catch them. Concerned about getting seasick or don’t want to get too far out to sea? Try our patch fishing trip or our shark and tarpon evening trip. Lots of action, close to shore and in relatively calm water. We have a clean bathroom, comfortable seating and a large fish box. We also have a courteous, professional, and experienced crew that will make your trip truly memorable.

Went out for a 1/2 day trip had a great time caught Yellow tail, cobia and more. We of course had to feed the local shark hus fee for fishing in his area.
Captain Don and his mate Dave showed us a great time and were very patient with us. If you're going to charge a fish I highly recommend this boat and crew.

Three of buddy’s and I fished 3 days on a 38 ft boat called the Kay K 1V our of Whale Harbor in January last month. Fishing was good. On January 21, Eddy Bud, the oldest guy, catch a big sailfish on the Kay K 1V. On these 3 days fishing we catch Mahi, yellowtail, tuna, snappers, jacks, mutton’s,and kingfish. We have fished on the Kay K 1V with Capt Don for the last 13 years, We think Capt Don and his Mate Dave on the Kay K 1V are the best

Captain Don took my parents and me out for a full day offshore. First, the Kay K IV is by far the cleanest charter boat I’ve set foot on, which my parents and I really appreciated. He warned us that not much was caught the last few days but he was going to work hard to try finding some fish. We caught 20 dolphin by noon, and even got a nice tuna! We had a blast, and Don was such a nice host! We’ve chartered many boats from Whale Harbor in the past, but Captain Don & the Kay K stand apart from the rest! We would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a classy offshore fishing experience.

The Kay K fishing team are awesome! They know where the fish are and how to catch them. We had 3 generations on board for some fun and the crew created great memories for all. We started the day by catching bait. There was no bait in sight, but David (mate) got them to the top, threw a 14 foot cast net and filled the well on the first toss. We caught enough yellowtail for 3 dinners and transitioned to Sailfish. I heard Sailfish are not too common this month, but we brought in a 40 pound beauty. Don (Captain) was expert driving the boat while the Sailfish tried hard to escape my hook. I will definitely return to the Kay K team on my next trip.

This month I went fishing with Captain Don and 1st mate for the second time in 3 years. I have gone deep sea fishing and hired guides many times. Picking a guide really is important decision. The Keys are a fishing destination. On two occasions I have hired guides who were new to the game. They want to fill the boats and your captain may be inexperienced. This equates to poor catches or worse. Captain Don is an expert at finding fish. His first mate is the hardest working fisherman I have ever seen. Not all fish species are biting every day. Captain Don assesses the the situation fast and puts his clients on the fish that are biting. On both trips we caught king mackerel, black tuna, mahi mahi and big yellow tail, On the fist trip my son wanted to catch a big fish. While we were catching bait (very cool to experience), Captain Don was looking for sharks and put my son on a 150 lb (estimated, we did not bring it on board) shark. Before we left the shallows, my son was satisfied. On both trips we caught fish until we were tired. We still had 3h of fishing time remaining. I asked Captain Don to put us on sailfish even though I was warned this species was not plentiful at the time of our trip. We did not catch a sailfish but we did raise one. When we returned to the dock we had a photograph of our fish. It was amazing to see the haul. I could not help but see the other captains arriving with their crews. I can honestly say on both of my trips our catch was impressive by comparison. Then the crew cleaned the fish. We took as many fish as we could eat to a local restaurant where they were prepared cheap (for the Keys). Fresh caught fish is just better. What an experience! I will use Captain Don’s Charter whenever I fish in the Keys. If he is not available., I will take his recommendation for another captain. He knows fishing in the Keys.

We’ve been visiting keys for 20 plus years and were never able to get on boat since they’re booked a lot. Man was the wait worth it. Capt Don and 1st David were incredible. Fishing was slow most of morning. We had several bites but nothing really. Totally not their fault, no one was catching. Later in the day Capt Don spots birds and it was on like donkey Kong!! Kids had a blast catching mahi and we ate them that night. These guys are very professional and catered to our every need. Do yourself a favor and book now for next year. Well worth it. Thanks guys for a great day.

I had the great pleasure last week to once again fish on the Kay K IV on two separate occasions, one half day and then a full day. Both days produced tremendous results and enjoyment for all. The half day trip with my buddy CP was just enough as we capped out on the yellow tails which was perfect for a short afternoon trip. The results for the full day trip later in the week with four of us aboard couldn't have gone any better with a nice amount of tuna and capping out and loading up the well with mahi's. Capt. Don and Dave were great once again, of course first finding the bait and then finding the fish. You only get results like that when you have an experienced Captain and 1st Mate. The Kay K IV ran fantastic, is very comfortable and is a great fishing boat. I highly recommend this Charter experience for beginners up to the most experienced fisherman. Really can't wait to do it again.

My wife and I fished two days with Captain Don and mate Dave in mid September. They both spent all their time making sure we both had extremely enjoyable trips. From catching bait as the sun comes up to fishing for yellowtail that the sharks wanted as much as we did. We caught yellowtail , vermillion snapper, yellow jack and almaco jack. Lots of great filets to take home. Don and Dave are easy going hard working fishermen. Whether you have limited experience as we did or are a seasoned offshore fisherman they will do everything they can to put you on fish. I can unequivocally give them the highest recommendation . Thanks Captain Don, we will be back

This was by far the best family fishing charter we’ve ever taken. Captain Don and First Mate Dave are as good as it gets: a great pair that assured our 3/4 day charter was on point, and boy was it!
Early morning splash at 6:45 allowed us to watch the sun come up on the water as we headed to our first stop for the day: gorgeous! The boat is very roomy, our girls hung out at the back of the boat while by husband and I sat up top watching the Amazing views. We stored our bags and small lunch cooler inside the cabin.
Dave took his time showing our girls how to fish; a little different technique for each type of fish. But boy was he hopping once the lines hit the water as both girls were pulling up fish fast! Dave you’re awesome! Captain Don came back and helped out while fishing the snapper; was a great day with them both!
Our catch consisted of Black Fin Tuna, Mahi-mahi, and Snapper. We’ll be eating fish for months! We took a small sampling of what we caught down the road for dinner; it doesn’t get any fresher than that: DELISH!
Thanks Captain Don and Mate Dave for an unforgettable experience! We will be back and will share our memories from this day for years to come!

Had a great time. Clean boat with ac cabin if u need to cool off. Electric reels that really help catch alot of fish in a short time. We went out on a afternoon 1/2 day. As as soon as we got to the 150' deep water spot we dropped lines and started catching fish. Snapper, tuna, black margratrate and even a grouper that not one could indentify. Can't wait to go on a full day trip.

I would love to go out fishing with my husband while we are down in June. Would you recommend it to someone who gets motion sick? Is it too late to book?
