When I first contacted Sea Monkeys I spoke with Colleen who is one of the owners and the Dive Master who leads all the dives. I was very impressed as she explained that they only take a maximum of six divers out and that they strive to give you a full hour of dive time on the reef dives if your air consumption permits. With most big dive shops you are lucky to get 45 minutes worth of diving even if you have plenty of air left. After I got my dates of travel locked in I called back and spoke with Bill who is Coleen's husband and co-owner. He was very professional and I was easily able to book the days of diving I wanted. I dove 3 days and was able to dive the Eagle wreck and do five reef dives. I was supposed to have another day of diving but the weather didn't cooperate. The waves ended up being five feet that day and the weather forecast was calling for that the day before and they cancelled the dive ahead of time. We ended up doing a 28 minute dive on the Eagle and I made it down to 106 feet. Most of the diving on the reefs is around 25 feet. As people get low on air Colleen would bring them up to the boat and let the rest stay down below the boat in order to get the most bottom time. My dives except for the Eagle wreck averaged an hour of bottom time. A few were a bit over that! Some dive shops will make you go up with your buddy when they are low. That's not really fair if you have to be paired up with a stranger and have to end your dive early because they go through a lot of air. The way Sea Monkeys run their shop, experienced and new divers a like can go out together and everyone can enjoy themselves at their experience level. This is great if you go as a group and have divers at all ability levels. Other divers have expressed Colleen's knack for finding sea life and they were not exaggerating. I was truly spoiled and saw at least one sea turtle on all five of my reef dives! No kidding! Saw large nurse sharks, rays, eels, spiny lobster, barracuda, and many species of fish. I would also like to give a shout out to boat captain Ed. He is very knowledgeable and kept us safe and we had fun. He also gave us some recommendations on where to eat dinner. I brought my own gear but they provide wet suits free of charge. I was cool one day and they let me use a shorty over top of my 3mm full suit. I would whole heartedly recommend Sea Monkeys. Thank you for the great dives!

It was a fun morning with the crew at Sea Monkeys! Colleen is a great experienced dive master. We liked the fact that the owner, Bill, said that they always have a guide on scuba trips which made me realize I was dealing with a top notch outfit. My husband and one son are Advanced scuba divers but I just wanted to snorkel. Alligator Reef was a good choice to accommodate all of us. We saw tons of all different tropical fish + nurse sharks, lobsters, & a turtle. My son & husband said it was a great dive with Colleen leading the way. “One of the best” they have ever done. Buddha did a great job as Captain, as well, and had some fun tales to tell. We loved the small size of the charter too- It was so nice to have a small boat & some flexibility that comes with that. They only take a maximum of 6 guests, so it was a treat to not have the usual crowded big boat experience. We would definitely book them again & try a different area, as there are so many to choose from in Islamorada. I recommend diving early in the week too. On a school holiday Monday today, we had the area to ourselves.

Colleen, Bill, and Capt Buddha were all incredible! I’ve never experienced the kind of service that we had. From loading the boat, to setting up our equipment, to changing tanks, to washing our gear; the staff at Sea Monkeys did it all! Not only was the dive a memorable one, but the boat was clean and they were so personable. Even Skipper the dog was waiting to greet us at the docks. By far, best dive boat and crew I’ve dove with! I can not wait to dove with them again! If you dive in the keys, you have to dive with Sea Monkeys!

My new husband and I really enjoyed our afternoon with the fishes, Colleen and Capt Buddha. Sea Monkey’s dive shop is at Islamorada Marina, which is close to the Cheeca Lodge, our hotel this week. The shop has a smaller selection of dive gear, tee shirts, etc. My husband’s rental year was quality and the boat was clean and solid. We loved that there was only one other couple on the boat. We dove alligator reef which was shallow/20 feet, but full of fish and sharks, and perfect for my novice diver husband. One gal in the boat was pretty seasick and colleen and Buddha were very supportive and accommodating. Colleen was very helpful with my husband who had some minor equipment and equalizing issues. Capt B knows how to navigate rough seas and was a nice guy to chat with. Thank you sea monkeys! We recommend you highly!
