Been going to key west for 20+ years. Now MANY restaurants, stores & even B&B charging fees to use Credit Cards! MANY don’t tell or list on menus! Who carries thousands in cash for stay at B&B and meals during stay. Yet another reason to skip KY visit!! We definitely skipping next year and beyond until this is fixed!

My husband and I visit Key West several times a year and we own property on the Island. We were scammed and tried to complain but were told to do it on line. Where on Line?
We were in Key West for our 20 year Anniversary. We were headed out of town and wanted to stop at a local shop to pick up two cookies and fudge for our children. We pulled into the Hogs Breath parking lot and the Pay to Park was covered with a black garbage bag. IT was 9:30 in the morning there were parking spaces. When we got out of our car we looked for a parking attendant or someone and no one was around. We went into the shop and were out in 5 minutes. There was a boot on our tire and a woman with a strong accent came up to us and told us that it was going to cost 125.00 to get the boot off our car. My husband began to argue with her and said we were here for 5 minutes and there was no one around to pay and we will be glad to pay you the $10.00 to park here for the 5 minutes she said " too late" and said the price just went up to $200.00. We were stunned. We called 911 but was told by the dispatch person that it was between us an the parking attendant. Just then a large man showed up on a bike and began to argue with us and said the daily rate for parking in this parking lot is 95.00. We showed him the receipt from our resort that we had just left now about 15 minutes before and he refused to take off the boot. I told him that I did not have 95.00 cash and he asked how much I had. I told him 80.00 because that is exactly what I had he took it and took the boot off. At that point because this man was large and intimating I was concerned for our safety. I called the Key west Chamber of Commerce and I was told that all complaints had to be done on line however when you get on line there is all sunny fun things to do but nowhere to complain about the scams and robberies in this town. Our Car was held for ransom. We were robbed.

Not the most interesting pieces of architecture you have ever seen. It was the old City Hall building.

I have been to several visitor centers and information kiosks, on our drive from Miami to Key West.
Most of the visitor centers I have visited have offered brochures, but the focus, I have found, tended to be to draw a tourist into making reservations for hotels and activities through them, rather than just providing tips and maps.
The equation seems to be--the more likely a tourist is to book reservations through the visitor center, the longer the folks manning the front desk will spend sharing information with that person. The converse is true as well, even on a low traffic day.
The Key West Chamber of Commerce is a notable exception.
Gladys at the front desk went out of her way not only to provide us with helpful information and annotated maps, but also to assist us with locating an optician to repair my partner's eyeglasses, which had just fallen and broken. Service above and beyond the call of duty, and the reason I am giving this chamber of commerce a five star rating.
Be sure to stop off here if you are in Key West. This site also offers the clearest and best maps of the area, for free.

We stopped here on our way into town. It was small with very little information. The lady was rude and only wanted to tell you about what she wanted you to do. I got the feeling she got a cut from pushing certain things. She told us the Trolley Ride she was pushing was the best. We had already decided on another Hop on-hop off and she didn't even have information about it! We took her trolley and ended up getting our money back as it was terrible.

What a different experience from when we visited in 2012. Such a disappointed this trip! I have never written reviews before but the lack of hospitality was so prevalent in Key West this time I felt I should. Hopefully, this review will help make it a friendlier place for others who visit! One t-shirt owner/worker, called us idiots because we didn’t buy anything in her store. It was made clear from many locals in a lot of our interactions - visitors are not welcome! One even said that to us! What a shame!! Not sure I will be recommending Key West as a wedding destination or vacation spot as I did in the past!

Made car reservation and confirmed with information requested (Enterprise ) When I arrived waited for pickup was told-“no car” I shared my efforts to make reservation asked why ? Line of excuses- I stated, what does that have to do with my reservation. Was told I was “disrespectful-and car denied” I have been with National/Enterprise for over 20 yrs. never had a problem. Don’t come to Key West-I am here on business; it will the last time.

I requested a map of Key West to put in our Wedding Welcome Bags for our guests that came to celebrate our daughter's wedding. Lisa emailed me telling me they were ready to pick up. When I arrived, there was a box full of bags they had created with more than just a map! There were brochures for all kinds of things for our guests to do while in Key West!!! What an unexpected pleasure and our guests raved about the informative brochures and map in their welcome bags. I expected just a map! Thank you for going above and beyond! You are all appreciated very much!

I am looking for someone who rents motorized transportation like gold carts in Olde Town area. Any suggestions?
