The cat man of Key West was in Key West 21 years ago when we first visited, and he is still there, entertaining thousands of Key West visitors.

Dominique brings his cats to Mallory Square and puts on a small show during the sunset. The act is little bit corny and laughable, but that's what the acts in Mallory Square are.

The cats are entertaining, but only did a few tricks. Dominique is quirky, to say the least. His humor will catch you off guard, and if you have kids, they may be lucky enough to get in on the act.

If you are in Key West, stop by. He's been around for a long time, and he has become part of the sunset celebration environment.

I only gave 3 stars though because of how quirky the act can be. It can turn off some, and entertain others, so I scored him right in the middle. It will be up to you to decide what you think.

This guy is a Key West legend apparently. He's trains house cats to jump through rings and hoops of fire. He asks for a couple of helpers from the audience during the show. He's got a thick french accent and very cooky demeanor, but the show is really fun. And it's free too. He asks for tips at the end of the show and gives a sticker or post card for anyone who donates. If you're around the Hilton pier/ Westin hotel around 6pm I would recommend heading over. It's worth checking out. The show is no longer than 20 minutes.

While we were in Key West, the captain of the glass bottom boat tour said that this was the best act in Key West. We looked for him for several nights at the Sunset Celebration but could not find him. We finally found out that he is located behind Margaritaville. We made a point to go there one evening. All I can say is that it was really, really weird. The cats do a few tricks like jumping through hoops, but nothing terribly exciting. Dominique has become most of the act. He has some sort of routine that really doesn't make much sense and is in heavily accented English. He has several sayings like "Stay where you are - return to your seat" that he kept repeating. He also just made funny faces and yelled a lot. He does make an effort to involve the crowd and will take pictures afterward. I will say that he was VERY nice when we were taking the photo. If I were already there, I might stop and watch a few minutes, but I would not make a special effort to get there. My husband's comment was, "I'm going to find that boat captain....."

I'm a retired airline pilot, who flew in and out of Key West, and spent overnights there hundreds of times over a 23-year career. One of my all-time favorite Key West experiences was to head to Mallory Square to enjoy Dominique's Cat Circus. I'm a cat lover who has grown up with cats and my family members are also cat fans, and we all agree that this is as humane as any animal performance can be. Dominique truly loves his cats and they love him. Some people assume that there must be something sinister going on, but over the years, as I got to know Dominique and his show, I'm confident that he's simply using operant conditioning and a lot of love to demonstrate what anyone could do with a pet. His showmanship makes this such fun, and I highly recommend it as a top priority for anyone visiting Key West. I've been lucky enough to travel a lot, and have seen many animal shows over the years, this one is unique, and demonstrates that that cats, like any animal, will usually respond well to love, patience, and a disciplined trainer.

This man uses poor cats to pretend to entertain the public. He screams nonsense constantly making even the audience jump. He keeps them in tiny cages and has them jump hurdles. Anyone who can read a cats body language can see that the twitching of the tail is stress, not pleasure. He constantly was screaming in the background as people were lined up to watch the sunset. I think he should be removed. Abusive for the poor cats.

We were looking forward to watching the cats perform. Dominique was yelling, making contorted faces and ended up scaring some of the children watching the cats perform. One child volunteer ran off terrified to her parents after all of the yelling and strange behavior. Dominique hit some of the audience members and children on their heads!!! All of this odd behavior and loud yelling was unnecessary and ruined the show for us. The cats all seemed miserable and afraid of him too. Don’t waste your time with this odd man or risk having your children frightened by him.

There is something wrong with the Catman. Not only is he rude ("5 more minutes"--repeated for at least a half hour), he is not nice to his cats. I sense that the cats do the tricks out of fear. They have been conditioned to tolerate his obnoxious yelling for a small treat. They never looked relaxed (as indicated by they tentative, twitching tails). The Catman not only yelled at the cats, he also yelled at the audience. I couldn't understand what he was saying. I couldn't take it anymore and turned to watch the sunset instead. Don't was your time on this two bit act, the others on Mallory Square have talent and are quite entertaining.

I was shocked to see such a show after the sunset. No way is this man amusing. The cat looked upset by the way it moved it's tail around. I found it abusive and I think Mallory Square should ban this performance. I saw him pick the cat up by the waist and held the cat upside down! If I were his cat I would surely run away from that crazy man!

I cried over this. He picks up the cats by their waist. He's over all a little creepy, and he carts in the cats like he's playing Mario Kart. He locks the cats in cages, some in their own cages, then one cage has two cats in it! We had to leave the show early because I couldn't handle how he was treating them. My cat got his foot stuck in a door once (and quickly pulled it out), but one of the cats made the exact same meow that he made. Simply heart breaking.

I've heard about the trained house cats that jumped through hoops of fire for years so today we headed down to Mallory Square before dinner. Saw a couple other acts and then headed over to the Westin pier to see the Catman act. He drew a crowd probably from reputation, but I believe it is MIS-representation The Catman screams, and sort of yells the same phrases over and over so much that I thought I was back working in a psych hospital. I have some fear that he has a severe addition or mental illness. It was sad to watch people leave the show to get away from him. The cats did not jump through the hoop, and the Catman almost hit an audience member with the fire hoop, when the cat refused to jump. However, the cats seemed unhappy and upset -- you could tell from the way their tails twitched. One cat slashed a member of the audience before the show and the Catman did not appear to notice or care. Take your time with the other street performers who care about giving a good performance or watch the sunset, but skip the Catman.
