Be ready to see LOTS of butterflies. The first room has an awesome display of a huge variety of butterflies. Great to see them individually. On our visit it was packed so the crowd determined the pace for walking thru and the butterflies are flittering everywhere. The crowd may cause this but not sure. A cruise ship was in for the AM high created the extra crowded conditions. Probably better to go in afternoon after cruise ship left. We enjoyed seeing the beautiful butterflies, birds, and flamingos. A lot of educational material too.

I finally got to check this off my bucket list and it was worth the wait. It is a beautiful peaceful environment and very well maintained for the butterflies and birds. It is a rather small place, so take your time going through, as there is so much to take in. They did say once you purchase your ticket you can return later in the day to visit again. The gift shop is awesome and filled with amazing treasures. I tried make reservations to do the Flamingle with the flamingos, but even three months in advance it was sold out during the week I was there, so if that is something you are looking forward to you should make reservations far in advance. If I’m ever in Key West again I will go for another visit for sure. 🦋🦩💕 One piece of advice is to go early in the day before it gets too hot. They have fans blowing but it is a very hot and humid environment. Enjoy!

You have to be careful in Key West because almost all the attractions are expensive and only some of them are worth it. Have been to many butterfly attractions and this is definitely one of the better ones.
Admission is a pricey $15/adult, $12 for seniors, and $11 for kids that even a dedicated butterfly lover would not spend more than an hour in. You can save $2 off adult admission by finding a coupon in the Key West brochure.
However, the butterfly house is absolutely flooded with butterflies that include lots of different species. In addition, there are some beautiful birds and even two flamingos you can get close to.
Parking is fairly convenient as there is a city lot next to the butterfly house that you can park in for $5. Combine a visit here with the Southernmost point marker (about two blocks away)

Take the whole family or go by yourself to enjoy the wonder of nature. You enter a different and wonderful world as soon as you enter the butterfly conservatory. Buy a beautiful identifying poster for around $3.00 at the ticket office so you can identify butterflies and birds you are watching fly around. Take your time and just stand still and observe (if still a butterfly might land on you!). Look in the windows before you leave to see all the chrysalis hanging and watch some hatch out while you watch. This was a favorite stop for my husband and I. Very nice gift shop too.

What an incredible experience! We came into town to visit and unfortunately got caught in a tropical storm. It was definitely a downer but the turbulent weather outside pushed us inside. The Butterfly and Nature Conservatory was a welcome oasis. It was busier than I would've liked it to be, however, it was easy to ignore the people around thanks to the beautiful creatures inside.
I had 2 teenagers and 3 smaller children with me and they were beyond fascinated. My two youngest were a little freaked out by "bugs" flying around, but they calmed right down when they saw the butterflies come land on us. I think the cute stickers they gave us at the end are going to be worn for the remainder of our vacation. 🤣
I also loved how there wasn't a time limit, photo restrictions, or people breathing down your neck. I almost expected to have someone following us around because of the young kids, but the atmosphere was incredibly peaceful. I appreciated the time to just watch, hold still, and wait for the right moment. There were many of those moments and the photos I got were absolutely breathtaking.
The gift shop was awesome and I struggled to single down the souvenirs to purchase. Haha! I ended up shipping a bunch of stuff home to myself and the price to do so was very reasonable. I also LOVED that they offered a 15% veterans discount!! 🥰
If we are ever luck enough to make it to this part of the country again, you can bet we will ALL be begging to come back here. It was pure magic. 💖🦋

Key West while fun is always busy and feels oddly high energy. This was a wonderful way to take a breath and enjoy some quiet tranquility. With lots of Butterfly information, and a gorgeous what almost looks like a Fairy Woods area for you to walk around and watch all the Butterflies and birds fly around. Just relaxing and fun from the start. High recommend only problem is the shop attached is so congested and busy it’s hard to walk around.

The very best money we spent in Key West was for the 45 minute Flamingle held after closing hours. I am a huge fan of flamingos and the Conservatory is home to Rhett and Scarlett flamingo. The store has many items for gift giving, and the butterfly collection is simply amazing. The plants are beautiful, birds are gorgeous and the property is well maintained. The staff is fully focused on their customers and I recommend this site to everyone - young and old!

This review is meant as a warning to others. We got lucky and found this info in time. You must purchase your tickets and enter before 4:30 (even though it’s open until 5:30). The staff is unpleasant and overly focused on enforcing that 4:30 cut off as they all clearly would rather be elsewhere based on their attitude and loud conversation.
That all being said, the place itself is great, really peaceful and relaxing. Beautiful nature, awesome butterflies and birds. We loved it. But holy god the attitude problems. As we were leaving we heard a family being tossed rudely because they were there at 4:32 pm. Mind you, it doesn’t take an hour to go through this exhibit, that’s just their rule and they intend to enforce it.
The bitter pink haired older female employee in particular took obvious satisfaction in refusing people entry. This staff needs flat out fired and new ones brought in. Nice butterflies only get you so far in life

This place is a must while visiting Key West. The variety of butterflies and tropical birds (yes birds, look up in the trees to spot them) is amazing. Go early in the day as admission allows you to come back as often as you like throughout the same day.

We enjoyed visiting the butterfly garden this week!!! The butterfly’s are beautiful to see flying all around you as well as the colorful birds.
It’s fun to try to take pictures of the blue monarch butterfly’s as they only land for a second so you have to be patient to get a picture of one.
They also have a great gift shop with lots of fun and interesting items. Once you pay your admission to the butterfly exhibit you can return again the same day as many times as you like which we did.
Don’t miss this place while visiting Key West!!! It is located close to the buoy at the Southern most point!!!

I went right when they opened at 9 and after speaking with an employee there I was told that's when the birds and butterflies are most active.

Posted prices were $12 adults $9 military (there are nearby military bases). Plus you can get $2 off coupons in the free tourist guides near the piers and major attractions.
Also I noticed online there are some ticket packages that bundle the Butterfly Conservatory with either the conch train or the streetcar, but Key West also has the free “Duvall shuttle” bus that runs on a loop and has a stop close to the Conservatory.

The area is very small but there is much to take in and admire. I spent about 1/2 hr looking at the many butterflies flying around, butterflies hatching, plans, birds, and the resident flamingoes. It was not at all crowded the day I went, so the path through it was open and I did not feel rushed. But you could actually walk straight through it in a couple of minutes.

We are going to Miami; Key West in November of this year. Has anyone been to the Butterfly Exhibit during this time? Wondering if the butterflies are out during this season.

They release butterflies everyday that have come out of the cocoon stage. Flowers and plants are beautiful year round. There are also birds and other little creatures there. The flamingos are great to watch and have unique personalities

Street parking, just like the rest of Old Towne. Your best bet is to shuttle in, or park nearby a stop for the Duval Loop free bus.
