The best part of Key West!!!
This is the best part of Key West. It was the best Pina colada I've ever had and the rum was amazing. We went on the distillery tour and we were not disappointed. It was a quick tour but the guide was highly knowledgeable and engaging!

    Our Favorite Rum
What can you say? The staff is always friendly, welcoming and helpful. They give free tours of the distillery that is well worth your time. There are so many flavors of rum to try but our favorite is the Bad Bitch light and dark rums, the biggest problem is you can only purchase it in Key West. It is always disappointment when our bottles are empty but it does give us a reason to return to Key West and always visit this distillery.

Learn to make a great mojito!
Visited while passing by and lucked into booking the mojito making class later that evening. My daughter and I were able to slip into 2 cancellations last minute and had a blast. Crystal, one of the owners is such a great personality, and made the experience so fun! We also sampled several delicious rums. The frozen key lime colada they make is the best frozen drink ever! If planning ahead I definitely recommend reserving early for the class as it’s apparently one that books up far in advance.

Highlight of our Key West Trip - Mojito Making Class
We took a group of 12 to Key West First Legal Rum Distillery for a 40th birthday Mojito making class and it was the highlight of our trip. The team was amazing, we learned a ton, and had a blast. Best Mojito and Pina Colada I've ever had!

    A must experience!
My wife and I and adult son went to do this tour that we heard so much about. Bob was our tour guide and he is FANTASTIC!!! Not a long tour and only about 3 rooms, but the information given, along with the samples made this tour something to experience. The Pina Coladas out front for purchase are a must have!!! A do not miss experience!

    One of a kind!
Fun, free and low pressure tour. Knowledgeable staff present a light-hearted, wry, view into the art of rum distilling. Part history, part science, part stand-up, the team entertains and educates. Oh, and the rum is quite spectacular! Support this small business that gives back to its community!

Excellent experience! A bit of history, a bit of fun facts and a great mojito making class! From my initial interactions booking the class online with Krystal to the actual class she taught…we were so happy to have this experience! Highly recommend to anyone looking for a fun experience! We learned a ton and no have all the knowledge to have mojitos at home that will remind us of this fun day!! Can’t say enough great things about this class!

We went here and took the tour thinking it was going to be more than it was. The tour guide was nice and informative, although it was basically all in one non-air conditioned room and lasted about 10 minutes. The lady in the shop who gave us samples was also nice and friendly.

That said...here’s where it gets weird. This place prided themselves on their unique process and warned us of all the scams in the rum distillery business.

The lady in the shop told us they now can make drinks to go, so we ordered mojitos to go, in their “souvenirs tumblers” (which was a nice Tervis with a lid and straw, but the total drink price was $21.50!)

Now, on the glass, it says MojitoParty(dot)com

I recommend you go to that site to see where the glass they are selling as their up sell mojito is from.

Now I wonder if all the info the guide warned us about was really the actual game plan of their entire business!!

Anyway...

I’m very disappointed to see you write this review, as an employee told you it was like a tervis, that person being my wife, who is the most honest person in this universe. Once we found out you were not satisfied We immediately refunded you the money without asking for the product back as this really bothered us, we are not here to try and take money as a matter fact most of the time we are raising money for all the nonprofits down here to help our community. I would love to see you add to your review and tell what we did as soon as we found out that you thought something was wrong.

This is a free tour; however, they do try to get you to buy a drink beforehand. My husband and I got 2 mojitos, and they were $34!!! The drinks weren’t good or worth the money. We had much cheaper mojitos at a Cuban restaurant and got more of a buzz than this watery mixture.

The tour was fine, but be aware that you stand in one section for long periods of time. I prefer more movement during tours, but it is a small distillery. I found the tour interesting, but boring. The guide knew his stuff, but I was more interested in tasting. They give you a small sample of a pina colada in the beginning, and then 3/4 through the tour you get to sample some 120 proof rum in your hand. Yes, they pour drops on your hand for you to taste.

At the end, the guide tells you to follow him to the tasting room where you can try others, but it just takes you back to the staff selling the high priced drinks. We left disappointed and underwhelmed.

I recently visited the distillery with some friends from out of town. We did not realize what time they closed and walked in about one minute before they were going to hang up their “closed” sign. They apologized and informed us that they were not running any more tours or tastings for the rest of the night. My friend looked disappointed and said that was OK and we went to leave. The kind girls inside asked if we were planning on buying something or if we were just looking. My friend wanted to buy a nice bottle of rum for her parents who had recently gotten married. The girls brought out small cups and bottles of rum for her to try and offered us samples and chasers as well. We probably kept them open an extra 20 minutes and they were so nice. My friend bought a bottle of the coconut rum which was excellent. I look forward to touring the distillery during operating hours.

My wife booked a mojito making class our first day in Key West. When we arrived we realized that we had made our reservation for May. We were so disappointed because we were really looking forward to taking the class. The manager, Crystal came out to talk to us. She gave us store credit for the money we had already spent for the tour, and promised us a recipe card for the mojito. To our surprise, Crystal ended up coming out and showing us how to make their signature Cuban mojitos and gave them to us. My wife and I were amazed by the courtesy shown to us by the entire staff, especially Crystal. The Cuban mojitos were incredible, and we ended up using our credit to but the ingredients to make them at home. I cannot say enough good things about this place. They also let us sample their rums for free. The rum here is all high proof, even the flavored ones (ie coconut, key lime, banana). Overall an awesome experience and the staff went out of their way to make it a great one, even though they did not have to.

This was on my KW hit list. We signed up for the tour and had a twenty minute wait, so we sampled some of the rums which were all good. We also tried the frozen pina colada with pineapple pieces and a banana rum chaser on top. What a excellent refreshing choice and they didn't skimp on the rum.

The tour guide was very knowledgeable on the art of making rum which also included a finished rum sample from the still in your hand.

Crystal was excellent! She had already closed for the evening but saw us outside with disappointment in our eyes, staring at the Bad Bitch rum we had just tried and wanted to buy to take back home with us. She opened up the doors with a smile and said come on in! We ended up purchasing both kinds of the Bad Bitch rum along with the cask. The cask is really neat as it’s handmade and each one is unique. Definitely recommend visiting and supporting a local business!

We have been coming here pretty much since the distillery opened. Since we stay a the Galleon, a lot, it is a very convenient walk. Over the years we have bought our far share of rum here and we often make multiple stops in on any given trip. We still have our own autographed bottle from Paul. The place is full of history and interesting characters.

When we saw the distillery was making "Ruminizer", hand-sanitizer for everyone else well any company that switched from making spirits to doing something to help the community, and doing it for free, needs our support. We were fortunate enough to be able to buy some, they shipped us some extra. We called and were willing to pay for them but they said no. Again, in this time it would have been easy to take our money, but they did not.

We have an trip scheduled for July 2020 hope that things calm down by then. Thank you all for what you are doing for your local community and supporting those in need. We hope to see you soon and we will restock our rum supply in July.

Thank you all!!!

The folks at this distillery are (rightfully) proud of their craft. The "tour" is free (I say "tour" because it's in one fairly small room) where the guide explains the process they follow from sugar and water all the way to their variety of rums. Back in the store and tasting room, we sampled some excellent rums and bought some to bring home. It's not inexpensive but it certainly is very good.

After traveling with my family, I stumbled upon this locally made rum shop and was pleasantly surprised. The staff behind the counter were so helpful & friendly. You could sample numerous varieties of rum (ex - pineapple, key lime, coconut, Simonton, etc.) and buy a freshly made tropical drink. I had a Key Lime Colada with a graham cracker crust on the rim - wicked deliciousness! The tour was so informative about the steps involved in the rum process. The female staff member did a great hand's on demonstration about the production of the various rums, barrels, etc. She also did a great job relaying local Key West history as it related to rum and some of the original people involved with it. A very thorough tour that lasted about 25 minutes...and it was FREE!

This was a wonderful tour. It's a small distillery, and the tour lasted about 15 mins. Our tour guide, Bob, was very knowledgeable, and very passionate about rum. I learned so much about rum, and had a wonderful time. And yes, they offer free samples after the tour. Wonderful tour, free samples... what else can you ask for? I definitely recommend this distillery the next time you're in Key West
